I admire the commentators for trying to encourage Glenelg and their fans with constant references with how close the game is and Glenelg was in it etc. Truth is Glenelg were never in it and you would have to be 'special' to think otherwise. Glenelg deserve credit for working extremely hard to try and steal it but in the end the reality is they were never going to win.

Both debutants looked good. Hunter covers some ground, ok in the air, skills hit and miss but plenty to work with. Hunter played in our first SANFL trial game and didnt look very good that day, today was much improved.

Keath looks sensational, superb disposal, good read of the play, fine in the air, enough agility, reminds me of Hombsch for port.

Greenwood! Far out he's looking promising. Superb decision maker, just seems to have a knack to be able to put it to a really advantageous spot. Superb balance - including in the air. Plenty of athleticism, unbelievable agility.

Be interesting to see Hampton when he gets in, the day Hunter looked ordinary, he looked sensation except his kicking which was uncharacteristically awful.

Gore, he's only in his second year right, same as wigg? Doing pretty well. Was our best on if you ask me.

Menzel was sharp early, pity he went out.

Grigg was good today, especially early. Seems like it takes him several games to warm up.

Has otten grown? pretty sure he was standing next to sellar and seemed to tower over him. Seemed slow and lacking agility early, some miskicks but got plenty of it, ok defensively, not too bad of a game.

Hendo was ok.

Beech starting to get into it, as in, to our gamestyle, not to SANFL, he's already mastered that.

Lowden looking better.

VB, some shocking decisions and some great ones, out of form but potential to make it into our best 22 if he does come back into form. Still seems slightly slow and lacking agility.

CEY quiet early, but good late.

Knight, Ramsey, Dear, Spencely, Carey, Wigg, ROB, Kelly all serviceable.

Terry Milera could be back in the AFL the way he's going. Glenelg played really well I reckon. They have a few AFL listed players playing for them.

I can see Greenwood, Keith, Gore, Menzel and Beech all making it at AFL.
Not quite sold on Beech but agree with the rest. Beech will likely only be able to play half forward rotating through midfield at afl level and he's going to have some serious competition. He's good granted, but I think we will have better options for quite a while.

Player of the day gets $250 cash? how prestigious. They should at least take that money and spend it on a watch or something, make it feel a little less like a present from grandma. I don't know much about the cost of trophies, but I'd imagine for $250 you would be able to get a decent quality one made, would be a better prize than cash.

We are very lucky to have him. Keath and him chose to join us. We must be doing everything right off field.
Aren't Port the destination club though? Did their managers deceive them and give them bad advice or something. Surely its only a matter of time before Port demand an investigation into potential bribery from the Crows for swaying young talent away from Port.

(Rucci and Port must be kicking themselves for sinking the boot into the crows so often just because Port had a few duds pick them)

Keith is a gun. You can't come back after 6 years of not playing footy and smash an SANFL game like he did without being a gun. I have no doubt he will be on our list playing AFL next year in Cheneys spot.

Don't always get to watch SANFL over here, so enjoyed the chance today.

Greenwood - really looked like a complete player - tall mid option - 7 tackles, 3 goals.
Keith - impressive for a guy who has not played footy for so long - good reader of the play
Gore - great work rate and looks promising

VB - should dominate at this level but doesn't
Hendo - got a lot of the ball and used long kicks to effect. BUT he was badly shown up for agility several times by Glenelg small forwards. Not an upgrade on Cheeney for mine.
Menzel - some classy stuff early before copping a knock
Otten - good marking but looking too slow for an upgrade
CEY - just not doing enough
Knight - some good stuff but not much impact

Not their greatest performance but a few good plusses. H Greenwood, Hunter, Keith as rookies. Good signs. Greenwood is a gun, Seen him a couple of times. Hendo and Gore from the main bunch. Not sure what happened to Menzel but his possessions looked good.
VB looked solid, I think his main problem is that he does not have a killer instinct in his game, he handballs a lot, but they seem more defensive than aggressive.

Ok, don't get to see any SANFL but here are my views based on today's game:
R.Henderson: a class above SANFL. Will get games at some stage but is a little soft at times
D.Gore: was everywhere and is a bull but lacks that little bit of class
A.Otten: solid in defence. If we need him, he can play
R.Knight: invisible for the first half. Think he shifted to the wing late in the game and really came into it
H.Greenwood: wow. Has something special.
J.Beech: a class above SANFL.
C.Ellis-Yolmen: has really dropped away. Needs to lift.
M.Grigg: skill is a level above and has good evasive skills. Wouldn't be the end of the world if we needed him at the top level
J.Kelly: started well, ended well. Was towelled up in the middle
L.Lowden: no
K.Ramsey: no
N.Van Berlo: a bit meh
H.Wigg: nice skills and can evade. May play this year
H.Dear: lump of a lad. Needs to keep working
T.Doedee: good then bad then good then bad. A few nice tackles and handballs. Terrible kick
A.Keath: wow. First half he was a class above SANFL already. Could see he tired as the game wore on.
R.O'Brien: didn't do it for me. Some nice hands but so so.
P.Hunter: no
T.Menzel: our best in the first IMO. Class above SANFL but also lacked intensity once or twice.

Our best 3, for me: Greenwood, Gore, Hendo.

Greenwood: The leap, the argo, and some tidy disposals. For a Cat B rookie, he's looking good.
Gore: Seems to be settling into SANFL level now. Would love to see him come in the the AFL side eventually and play Lyons' role.
Hendo: Your typical Hendo game. Some good, some bad.
Keath: That was his first game of footy in 6 years!? There's a heap to work with there.
Knight: Worked into it late, but needs to do more if he's to force his way in.
CEY: Looked lost out there today. Carrying a bug or something? Just not himself.
VB: I's like he knows he's not coming back.
Lowden: So, so meh.

My god you lot Keath not Keith. *shakes head*

That boy has it. His work off the ball and helping in directing traffic in the backlines was great. Very good hands, good decision making, quick, great leap, lovely kick and hates being beaten and his height is another bonus! Doedee is another intelligent backman. Loved that tackle on the members wing and the duck under so that his arms would remain free and he could get the handball immediately out. He made some rookie blues in terms of a few decisions and waiting back a little bit when he should have attacked the man harder, but other things he did so very well that showed he has football iq and quickness which is so hard to teach. Trust in Ogilvie as we have another good one here. Add in Greenwood , I can see why he was after him for a number of years. Like McGovern he has that agility, speed, leap and is a size that makes it hard to match up on.

Now onto the bad. Hendo might have gotten the most possessions but he was back to being the bad Hendo and that was even before the hit he got. He was holding us up when he got possession and a quick kick would have resulted in some fast forward movement to us when we had free players, no of course not he had to stand there and think about it and wait for Glenelg to man up. There were moments he need to put his body over the ball and go hard and he would wait for them to get the ball instead. After his hit he might have been forgiven for these but it was happening before that. ROB's timing was shocking today and he couldn't get anything right in his leaps, be it for taps or mark/defensive punch. We were smashed in the centre, but I did really like that the coaches left VB playing in the backlines and didn't put him in there as a senior, cool head. The youngsters had to work their way through it all.

Did Hughy play as a midfielder for all the game? I only caught the last 10 mins where it looked like he was in the centre a few times and drifted forward. Would love to see him come on as a midfielder in the Pendles/Fyfe mould.

He was playing as a forward and a midfielder.

Hey all, how did my boy Hugh go. I live next door to his parents. Totally quality people. My kids love it when Hugh comes back home. Reckon he's given them shit loads of basketball stuff from his college.

He was smashing it down here in juniors before he put b/ball first. Just a ripping lad from a ripping family!

I hope you got to see when he corralled the Glenelg shithead in the south-western pocket and got a free for holding the ball, was a fantastic tackle.

Or his excellent pack mark.

Or his quick grab and goal early on.

Loved it. And the Glenelg tears in the crowd were salty and plentiful.
