he reminds me of rampe a bit. If my memory serves me correctly rampe came through the rookie draft as well. I think he could play as an undersized kpd at the next level as well. probably won't line up on the best forwards but could do play on guys like gunston, jd, stringer types.Tom Gorter
A mature age product from Kojonup in our Lower South-West zone, Tom has come through the East Perth program and not only did he make his League debut this season but he also had a breakout year and went on to win the clubs best first year player in 2016.
Impressing the coaching group in the pre-season with his work ethic, fitness levels & elite left foot kick he was called up for a West Coast intraclub game, Gorter’s ability to read the play and nullify contests in the defensive half against a wide variety of opponents has caught the eye of several onlookers.
Working seamlessly with the rest of the Royals defensive six, Tom’s style of play is already consistent with zoning structures that are being employed by AFL Clubs. To complement his football smarts, Tom’s preparation is elite to ensure that he 100% ready to go for every contest.

Which tall players?Petrie was a good pick, but not sure about the other two.
Why load up on tall players when it sounds like the next draft is strong for KPPs?
McInnes and Gorts (who I know is a short tall but still counts).Which tall players?
I just assumed gorter would be converted to a big bodied mid, seems our wayMcInnes and Gorts (who I know is a short tall but still counts).

MackenzieName a young player that regularly played well in the WAFL that missed out
I'm almost certain that we did even before Petrie came on board. We have the oldest and most experienced list in the comp now.
I like the write up, appreciate you sharing.Tom Gorter

The only teams above us last year were Norf, Freo, Hawthorn and Geelong, and look at what happened to the senior players from those sides.
We are now by far the oldest squad in the competition. None of this "developing young side" nonsense. If we don't win the flag soon we have failed
Nope don't think sodid olongo get picked?
Nah. I thought it woulda happened o longo time agodid olongo get picked?
If the injury gods are on our side next year Petrie won't get a game in the AFL side, however it's just obvious he has been put on the Rookie list purely as insurance. Scotty could have complications and not come back as soon as expected, and in the past Vardy has broken down. Don't know why some are being so negative. Also as East Perth lost Johnson at the end of last year due to retirement and Giles will be playing AFL, I think East Perth will be happy to have him on board. Thirdly doesn't Petrie have coaching ambitions. He may be used at East Perth in some sort of development role in the future?I don't get it either. He's not a ruckman, and between Lycett, Vardy and Giles our ruck stocks are as deep (in terms of quantity, if not quality) as they have ever been.
From a Petrie perspective, he's had a 300+ game career across nearly two decades. Why is he flying 3500km across the country to take rookie wages for a season where he might not even get a game (hopefully).
In the event of injury and we have to upgrade a rookie, at least we know that McInnes, Tunbridge and Petrie are capable of playing at AFL level. We have plenty of young guys on the list playing for East Perth, some who are still developing.McInnes - went backwards in 2016
Tunbridge - guy has been in the AFL system for 6 years so has done as much developing as he will ever do
Petire - we all know the story
Gorter - over age tweener that played half of 2016 in the ressies and was decent but not brilliant in the 2nd half
Snadden - he is our our rookie list single hope.
So yes, I think the club pissed away the rookie draft.
Are you on their payrolePersonally i think the best way to deal with injury's is to have AAMI income protection insurance.
He was contracted for 2017 so if we didn't pick him up in the rookie draft we would have had to pay his contract out which reportedly we didn't have room in the salary cap to doi stand corrected. I only thought we had two picks.
Still don't know why we went for him
