Monocle has been selecting for WCE on the BF Mock Draft.

He had us as follows:
SPP at 12 (ended up pick 13) - HFF that will take rotations through the midfield
Brennan Cox at 34 (ended up 37) - KPD/KPF that was U18 AA CHB and become the 3rd Marks Brother.
Tom Williamson at 54 - midfielder-defender, a prolific ball winner and speedy (very young with Dec birthday)
Jake Waterman at 55 - a bid was matched so a 3rd tall forward option

So overall good picking and represents what the likely value would be.

We have another pick in the senior draft. 2 options - tall option could see Cameron or Goddard while midfielder could see Banfield or Narkle equivalent

For rookie - likely that we go opposite option of our final pick and can add Strnadica to the tall options.

Where has all the love for Liam Ryan gone?? He was a must get as a forward pocket only weeks back.

He would have helped his cause no end had he beeped better than 10.3 and not finished picking yet .

Not from me he wasn't. His highlights reel of massive hangers were great but is that the role of a small forward!!! Not enough defensive pressure.

Most importantly for me, this is a really good draft and there will be quality picks for the rookie draft.

OK, we've rookied about 60 players since 1998.

8 have been a 'success' (Fletcher, Cox, Nicoski, Lynch, Priddis, Sinclair, Armstrong, McGovern)

So 13% make it, with the vast majority of those who don't make it not even playing a game.

Marsh and Garlett are worth a look in, expect to get the best out of them given they'll be comfortable playing in their home state.
My point was that if you are looking for a star midfielder or KPF in the rookie draft then chances are you're going to have a low hit rate.

I suspect there are certain types that lend themselves to a greater likelihood rookie draft success.

Small forwards, mature age ruckmen, lock down half backs and role players, etc.

Also as Godfather said, a few of those 60 rookies have been discarded potatoes or permainjured players that we foolishly thought we'd 'give another chance'.

So I reckon if the rookie list is used properly there's a better likelihood than 5%. Why waste it on a failed player

What is the feeling here on Will Hayward? Been invited to the draft, rumours Carlton/GC keen on him but others more likely, so he will be around the mark and a poster earlier suggested we were keen. I'm on his bandwagon unless Brodie slips through, although medium forward isn't our highest priority.

If he goes pick 12 or earlier, the side taking him will consider him a future midfielder. I've not seen him play but he does sound abit like Fyfe prior to being drafted.

9 goals or whatever for a medium forward in a prelim is pretty insane. Wouldn't be unhappy at all if he's a genuine fwd/mid and not an undersized key forward.

Whenever I think of mid-sized forwards I always think of the bad ones. Like McKlinley.

Who are the mid-sized marking forwards who have played deep forward as juniors and gone into have good careers at afl level?
Did Lecras play mids in juniors?

Hayward sounds like a very similar player?

I don't know enough to know whether he is good or not.

If he is a medium marking forward (I don't even know if he is a marking stay at home forward) then I was interested in the conversion rate from under 18 success to afl success.
Yeah it's tough to think of examples. Gunston/Sicily/LeCras I guess, although I'm not too familiar with their junior careers. Member seems a rich mans McKinley. Fyfe started as a medium forward as well, I guess

Definitely doesn't seem your typical stay at home forward. Pretty wiry kid, tenacious, bit of a live wire. Depending on how agile he is and his tank I don't see why he couldn't be a super damaging wingman/high half forward.

Can't tell by the vids whether he has inside mid potential - not many Fyfes out there

Hayward reminds me of W-Hoskin-Elliot though not as clean or classy. Would rather we go pure mid unless they think he's the next Fyfe.

Definitely has X-factor and pace/aggression though.
