List Mgmt. 2016 AFL Draft

You see I would describe Crozier as vanilla so I'm not sold.
You must have very high expectations on players then. Mark Hutchings is a vanilla player. Crozier has elite damaging skills and some x-factor, things a vanilla player typically wouldn't have.

Back to the draft though, SPP is what we need and I will be disappointed if we do pass on him. His highlights video on the AFL website was a thing of beauty and he's impressed me lots throughout the year. I guess we must trust whatever decision the club makes though.

The more I look at Gallucci the more I like him. Has really nice traits and I think he'll play a good balance of inside and out.

People are describing him as though he is some sort of poor man's Gaff. He seems to have a rare ability to burst away from the centre and deliver it well, but also rack up the footy. His outside game reminded me a bit of Shuey to be honest. 183cm as well so he's not a little fella.

I'd be disappointed if SPP didn't get to us. No way he lasts until our 2nd rounder. Don't mind Berry though, looks and sounds a good pick if the club were to call out his name on draft day. Obviously Taranto (if he slides) would be an excellent pick up too, goal kicking mids are always handy and I like the look of Scrimshaw and Logue but like others, I'm worried about them not being able to become a mid at the top level, also, we don't exactly have a good track record of turning 3rd tall forwards/ backs into mids.

Two questions for those who know.

1: I keep seeing talk of Brodie sliding, what's the knock on him? Everything I was seeing prior to the combine he was looking likely to be taken with in the top 5-7.

2: Shai Bolton. This kid strikes me as one who will get home sick and possibly ask for a trade home once his first contract is up, what's the chances of him lasting to our 2nd rounder?

To be fair I think this comes more down to those people's attributes than our ability. Darling and Tunbridge aren't midfielders and Yeo could be but his issue is between his ears.

Mm. Lamb still bemuses me.
There's a big difference between talent evaluation and talent development. Tom Lamb is tall, skilled, athletic with great endurance. How he is developed by our coaches is outside the purview of recruitment.
Not really sure what he's done to make you feel that way tbh. He took Duggan and Nelson in 2014 but also took Lamb and Cavka, took a couple of guys who may or may not work out last year. I wouldn't say he's hit it out of the park.

Cant blame him for Cavka, very wierd injury that ended his career. Parto and Cole look like keepers, the rest are long shots in any draft.

Pre-draft there were a lot of questions about Lamb's attitude. Fair to say he must have conned us somehow in the interview.

Not really, the attitude was more that he got down on himself too easily if he made a mistake as well as his pops involvement. He has never really been a full time FF so there needs to be some patience if that is the end game. Id personally prefer him much further up the ground.

The only position I see him as a viable option for at AFL level is as a third tall.

Unfortunately for him Darling has that position sewn up for basically the next decade along with JK and resting ruckman/Guv/Petrie.

He won't be an Eagle in 2018.

Sheed & Barrass is a pretty damn good haul the year before to be fair.

But yes 2014 does look a bit iffy with Nelson the only one I'm quite confident will make it. If Waterman had come good and if Duggan comes on it could become a very good draft still.

Can play FF, 3rd tall either end, KPD and had endurnace and kicking to play wing. Pretty harsh to write off 20 year olds while pining for 24 year old ex-rookie listers.

There is nothing wrong with Gallucci hence the safe bet comments.

I have thought for some time now that we would be interested in him

But i imagine at one stage or the other every club has had his name on the white board

He's had some really big games this year where he has absolutely dominated

Like the TAC cup game where he had 21 disposals and 5 goals, Which the coach said was one of the most dominant displays he's seen since Dyson Heppel

He's a goal kicking Mid averaged nearly 2 goals a game in the TAC cup only one other Mid averaged more and that was McClugge

Gallucci is far from Vanilla has alot of speed and power is good overhead and can kick goals

I'm interested to see where he goes in the draft, and wouldn't be devastated if we select him because it's easy to see the reasoning behind it ...

There was a reason Cavka slid though, every other club seemed to be aware of his issues and decided they weren't worth the risk. Jury is still out on all the other players from both drafts, hopefully some of them will work out and I'm sure they will but at this point he hasn't added one best 22 player to our side from the last 2 drafts.

He's not a FF and I don't recall him proving that he can play as a KPD either. I'm writing him off based on what I've seen. He's a very slim chance to make it at this club due to a multitude of factors. I think he'll be a better chance in Vic in 2018.

You can probably say Sheed, Barrass and Yeo in the same year. We traded down which enabled us to get all three. Therefore in my mind an even ebtter draft. In addition, there is a slim chance that Karpany delivers next season.

Where are you getting that from? Cavka was never a gun, good runner with ok-good disposal. He was expected to go 30's/40's.... Nelson was expected to go late 20's/early 30's, were there issues there that meant he slid to the 50's?

As I said, it's about development. He has the talent to be any of those I mentioned. Writing off a person being developed as a KPP after 2 seasons, especially KPF's, is still poor practice. Have a look at Josh Kennedy's productivity in his WAFL games if you get a chance - doesn't really indicate much at all. KPF's need patience and development.

He's not a KPP and I doubt he ever will be.

He'll be a handy third tall with the ability to run up the ground. I'm not writing him off as an AFL player. I'm writing him off as an Eagle.

KM has written this about West Coast's list needs.

http://www.espn.com.au/afl/story/_/id/17958126/knightmares-afl-list-analysis-does-your-club-need

West Coast

List needs

1. Next generation midfield brigade - (with a view towards having a strong midfield group once Matt Priddis, 31 and Sam Mitchell, 34 retire)

2. Outside runners - (Andrew Gaff is one who runs all day and Lewis Jetta can push up the ground and provide meaningful drive, but on the big Domain Stadium, more outside running players would be beneficial to West Coast's midfield balance)

3. Crumbing small forward who can kick 30+ goals in a season and heap on the forward pressure - (this has been something West Coast have long lacked. Mark LeCras, 30 is an excellent forward but won't be around forever. To complement the club's key forwards a high-level crumbing forward would be an ideal list addition)

4. Young key forward - (with Josh Kennedy 29, it is time for West Coast to consider drafting a future franchise key forward to develop under Kennedy for a few years and eventually take over the reigns)

Draft picks: 12, 34, 54, 106, 124, 142

Who should they draft?

Father-son prospect Jake Waterman was nominated by West Coast and is likely to be chosen late in the national draft as a marking forward.

Todd Marshall at pick No. 12 as a key forward in this draft is the most obvious replacement with time and development for Josh Kennedy.

Daniel Venables and Sam Powell-Pepper would also make sense around pick 12 with their scope to improve as explosive midfielders. Sam Petrevski-Seton if he slides to 12 also would represent terrific value as an outside runner.

As small forwards, late draft or as rookies, Tyson Stengle, Kym LeBois, Sam Fowler, Dan Allsop, Kyle Kirby and Willie Rioli are some names who may be considered.

Pretty much on the money I reckon.

Well he's been playing FF most of last season so if you're saying he's not a FF, then is it fair to judge him on that?

Will make a great defender when he stands back and watches other people run away with a ground ball.

Only reason he is still on the Eagles list is because no one else wanted him and the Eagles are short on tall forwards. Can even pinpoint the moment other teams wrote him off, the last 10 minutes of the round 22 game against South Fremantle. Just gave up. The posters who were at the game wrote about it in the WAFL thread.

There is a new coach at EP now, if he brings the same attitude in 2017 he will find himself getting to the ground at 10am. Was nearly dropped in favour of Allen this year and only the coach saved him.

Has nice hair though.

Not sure if you've been asked before, but what are your thoughts on taking SPP with 12?
I posted after the colts grand final that he was a must pick. Didn't get the medal that day but he was a clear BOG in that game. SPS was crippled by injury this year so hard to compare him but I thought SPP is the best player from WA this year. ($51 for rising star, good value if he goes to the right team and stays injury free)

In saying that I don't see interstate games and don't think judging players from 5 minute highlight videos is the smartest thing so I don't know what else is available from other states.

Might not be our problem anyway, chance he won't be there at the Eagles first pick.
