Don't we pick before Adelaide?

Chance for revenge on their sweetheart deal with Geelong two years ago which gave them prior access to Cockatoo!
we do and thats why i get less excited about the draft. it probably means we might overlook him.

avishka5 I don't believe he will still be on the board at our pick let alone Adelaide so I think the point is mute.

That said I do agree with you that if he WAS available for our pick, I too would be super pissed if we passed on him.
With you on that . He had consistently been in top 10 so I have been favouring Berry. I see a true mid in Brodie but a risk in Berry he will be be hbf. Don't see the same risk for Berty as Sheppard as Shep lacks footy smarts.

If we do go Berry, then we need to go a genuine mid at ercond and not Rotham. Rotham good at 2nd if we get Brodie.

Dylan Clarke would be a very good fit with our second if we take Berry with our first.

If we really wanted to snare SPP someone should have suggested trading in a pick in the low 20's.
Why did no one suggest that?
You better have facts to back up such an outlandish suggestion.

Very good question, but we don't know what they tried to negotiate in the trade period..... They may have tried !!
Agree an early second in this years draft is like a second first rounder in previous years.
I am aware that Bris where offering a second for Ezy but he didn't want to move .

Why would he? He is a UFA end of next year and can just move to a contender to get one before end of career. Assuming we can't find a spot for him.

From Will Brodie's AFL draftee diary:

"After the nationals I went back to school footy to finish the season off, but I took one week off first to get over a few little injuries I was carrying. Sam Powell-Pepper gave me a really big corky in the thigh early in the first Country game and it was easily the worst one I've ever had, it bled down to my knee and I wasn't able to run very well"

Imagine the damage SPP and Mitchell could do in the same midfield

Jack Graham ?
Why not. I haven't done any research this year so I have no idea who's who.

I just hope Rawlings etc don't have unreasonable expectations of our current mids to suddenly become contested beasts over the summer

I wonder if we tried to manufacture a pick downgrade in the first round (and still leave ourselves enough room to take Pepsi Kula Shakur) for a second round upgrade?

Ala Sheed manouevrings.
In a draft where there are a lot of talented players between picks 10-40 i don't think there was much incentive for pick swaps.

I remember reading a quote from someone at the club saying that we wanted to maintain the position of our first pick. And other sources saying the club expecting SPP to be available at their second pick, so I'd say no.

Given it doesn't look like there's a great deal separating picks 10-25 this year (no idea if true), I was hoping we'd do something like we did in 2013. Maybe the lure of the slider was too great.

Agree but it also highlights the fact that it's easier to throw up suggestions of getting another early pick but the reality is you need to give something good up to get a deal done and if players are in contract its difficult to arrange a trade if they don't want to move.

As far as offering up future picks that is a better ploy for teams in a more serious rebuild. Future picks for an established player are a much different proposition to trading picks for picks as the effective impact of pick is obviously greatly reduced.
Our Club believes we are in a window of being a contendor so they are after more immediate options.

Just another reason why I'm bemused we are passing on SPP - he's one of the most likely of this years draft to be ready to play AFL football in 2017. He's actually capable of producing next year rather than waiting for a year or two before being ready
