List Mgmt. 2016 AFL Draft

I was surprised you guys gave up pick 35 to Freo for their 2017 second rounder, seemed like that might a nice pick to have if Scheer gets a bid in the 20s.

It'll be interesting to see where the bid comes, maybe the suns think it could be as late as third round.
Apperently they have a few academy picks next year that they need it for.

Our 1st selection should be fairly interesting and a positive is that there are a fair few mid/forwards in our draft range which is my preference. Mind you i would be OK with Marshall or Logue if selected as both are highly rated as best available.

From reading a fair few Phantom drafts these are the players that are in contention

SPS - Would be a very unlikely although his output this year has meant he made slide a bit, wishfull thinking at best
SPP- Could be a slight reach and is not generally a high possession player with queries regarding his kicking but his Martin type attributes are enticing
Taranto - Has bolted up the rankings as a forward/Inside mid who rises to the occasion in the big games, pace a slight query
Venables - forward/inside mid, an aggressive tackler with explosive pace but queries on output in regards to being a midfielder at AFL level.
Simpkin - highly touted before being injured so no exposed form but excellent acceleration, vision and composure by hand
Berry - Possibly a bit of a reach but a 190 cm contested ball winner with a burst of speed sounds great, bit of a concern that his best position is as a half back though

I'm hoping we have s good look at Rioli. He could fit in very nicely in the forward line. Has zip and knows where the goals are.
Not sure Hawthorn would offload another one of their champions though. Maybe next year.

WEST COAST EAGLES

First Pick: 12

The type of player they should target: Need a medium-sized defender that can ideally intercept

Ideal player: Josh Rotham

Left-field choice: Tom Williamson

WITH a deep forward line and the addition of Sam Mitchell into the midfield, the Eagles would like to bolster their defensive arc as they prepare for another premiership tilt.

And they mightn’t have to look too far from their own backyard.

WA prospect Josh Rotham is the perfect modern-day backman at 192cm. Defensively, he can play on any forward at any size. Offensively, he’s an excellent interceptor and a strong overhead mark that has the ability to provide ample drive from defence.

Another defensive option for the Eagles could be aerobic beast Tom Williamson, who showed off his excellent endurance at the recent AFL national combine.

“It’s a big ground over there at Domain Stadium for him to utilise his athleticism and line-breaking runs. He is a big ball-winner too,” Ablett said.

“At 190cm, he has elite athletic traits but he’s also a great interceptor that can play off half-back. With that leg speed, he finds ways to cuts through the midfield that’s absolutely electric.”

some lazy journalism from who ever wrote this. Seriously, most of the guys in the DTFA board write better pieces than this. We already have two elite interceptors and then shep and bunga play their part when needed.

To be fair bunbury high is probably in one of the best spots I've ever seen a school. Poor old Gosnells high doesn't have the same atmosphere.

Gosy High sounds terrifying

I'm starting to think we don't take SPP with our first. Too much bustability

I like how some draft write ups still refer to the size of domain stadium being relevant to who we might take

We have one more season there before moving to the new stadium which wont be the same size

Can we draft a mid who's actually a mid and not a Hff/hbf who we think might one day show some some promise as one?

Just spoke to one of my mates involved at west coast. Stated that the Eagles don't rate Rohan, are heavily into SPP and Bolton, but they belive SPP will he there at there second pick.

Would be stoked if we ended up with both and Waterman...

But there is no way SPP lasts till our second rounder!

We may have enough defenders on the list but it sounds like Rotham has the potential to be a high level rebounding defender.

If the game plan is Bolton & SPP with our first two picks that sounds pretty dope. I do worry that SPP is not more of a mid 20's pick rather than slipping all the way to 34.
