List Mgmt. 2016 AFL Draft

With Berry or Powell Pepper we can't go wrong in my opinion. Personally I'm a big supporter for Jarrod Berry and have been for a while, our first pick draft range is more realistic for him than it is for SPP. However if we pass on SPP with our first pick than we miss him completely, no second doubts about that.

I'll be honest I'm not fully approving of all our recruting staff but we've got to back in what we have, particularly O'Brien. He has a keen eye for young talent but our lack of drafting from the VFL when mature players were available has me thinking he doesn't pay enough attention to the VFL. It's just one case in point and with a later pick was never going to have a huge effect but even something like drafting Dylan Main in the Sheed draft when guys who could step straight in like Kane Lambert and Chris Cain were there.

I just a read a profile on Berry and the very first thing it says is that he is 'an outstanding character', not saying that is bad and I still wouldn't mind him, but that just screams West Coast pick.
Would rather "outstanding player". All I think of is Jasper Pittard

Based on that recent vid I'd be much happier with Gallucci than Berry. I think he could at least add something to the side that we lack

Galluci makes me as sick in the guts as drafting Todd Marshall or Tim English with our first rounder.

He is versatile yes and runs Tom Swift like zig zag lines but his efficiency by foot sucks

So Berry record possession game of 20 doesnt concern you ?

Heard bascially the same thing.

The divide in opinion between the people that have seen a lot of him and those that have only seen pieces is so stark. You can see it on this board. Just don't get his presence or impact on games on video. That round 23 goal against East Fremantle is a big example, was unbelievable in person but nothing special on TV even though it was the broadcast game.
As I think you know I saw most of his games in person for the east Perth seniors

Like him from the moment I saw him play. On those games he's already better than some of the players we have on our list

I can't for the life of me work out why we're overlooking someone right under our nose and allowing someone based in Victoria the power to over rule those that work with SPP on an almost daily basis

I haven't been drinking for just over a month. Can see that changing tomorrow night

Gross, why did I look at that video of Berry.

One passage where he was faced with an oncoming tackler and he drops at the knees.

The 191 cm not-sure-if-key-defender-maybe-midfielder dropped at the knees rather than trying to break or evade the tackle.

He's not big enough to break tackles and yet his disposal seems suspect as ****.

I have deliberately avoided looking into the prospects much but all of a sudden I really hope we avoid Berry. We don't ******* need any more back flankers.

This guy does not scream *future hybrid inside mid* and I strongly doubt he is going to improve our side in the short-mid term.

Oh but I guess he has a recent death in his family so he we better ******* draft him just so we can prove to the afl that we aren't drafting future Ben Cousins or Daniel Kerrs...sign him up ASAP

FMD

Nice pre-draft melt

Always had a conspiricy theory that someone in WA (possibly WCE) get a local kid over rated 2-3 weeks out. Then a team in Victoria swallow the bait and pick him early. This wipes out a pick and leaves someone we are interested in on the table. Sometimes it works (Conca, Boekhurst), sometimes it doesn't (Cripps). Got the feeling Logue is that player this year and will be taken 10-20 picks too early.
Maybe it's the WCE east coast recruiters turn for conspiracy theory . We are trying to get berry into top 10-12 contention so someone else slides

I don't think anybody sees SPP as a sure thing - well, I don't at least.

But I see him as a very rare opportunity. I'm a little sick of the conservative, friendly way our club is run and all it has gotten us is humiliated in a GF and then pumped in an elimination final. Time for change. Taking SPP is a statement and a step in the right direction.

I like that line of thinking but I think we can have the best of both worlds or at least pick up guys with weaknesses which are less bad.

For example, Berry is noted as hardnut and he can kick. Okay, he can't find the ball but it that worse than having questionable disposal and composure?
Likewise, Venables is a tough kids who can kick - are his injuries concerns worse than picking a guy with SPP's flaws?

Answer: I have no idea but the fact that it's unclear means I'm not going to champion SPP @ 12 like it's the only way to go.

What'd be more effective. A 15 - 20 possession game from Berry or a 20 - 25 possession game from SPP.

I'd almost go with the former, SPP is a raging bull at the contest which i like but his efficiency by foot concerns me. With space his efficiency is better but in a contest his kicking efficiency is similar to Will Brodie which is why I genuinely think Brodie can slide till as far as mid teens, is a kick and hope to hit a target style.

Logue reminds me of stringer in he is just a massive powerful unit who can just bust his way through tackles .
Plays a different position but if logue was to transition to be an impact player in the midfield he is easily worth a top 10 pick .
That power and endurance is a rare trait

One of the concerns on Berry is his kicking, even Cal Twomey has mentioned it

Kicking efficiency is the biggest crock of shit.

Winning contests and playing with intensity consistently is the king of attributes in footy these days.

It's like those flogs who say crap like "oh but Fyfe and Dangerfield have 55% DE and are therefore shit and should never have won brownlows"

Dunno think you're overstating issues with both.
Both do their best work in tight, and the hand work from Brodie makes up for it...bit like Fyfe.

The package makes them interesting. Quite like SPP...thought when I saw him live his kicking was quite tidy

Good Post. It should be said that most of the people complaining about Berry seem to have only seen small amounts and extrapolating. Last season seemed to be ruined by injury, was rated Top 3 the year before apparently.

Wouldn't read too much into the English links, all of them seem to be theories of the Journalists rather than genuine info "Could they consider English here?", "If English slides they will think about it" and seems to be them reading into the Interviews with Rawlings that we will draft a Ruckman at some point. Still hoping we pick up Hayward though, the links seem to have died down a little, but I feel if North go Berry he is a massive chanfe.

I heard Bolton went into subway and ate all subs
What else would he eat in there?

Not being an expert but following the live feed usually about an hour and a bit. Depends if clubs ask for more time picking

You've just described Nat Fyfe.

You're a massive chanfe...

What is a chanfe btw?

Brodie would be absolutely perfect. Seems most likely to go to Sydney/North, who already seem very strong inside and would be looking more for pace. Wouldn't rule him out yet.
