He is now at Adelaide . If no one picked him in the main draft crows got first dibs as a rookie . We could have done that with waterman by the look of it .

I'm very happy with this draft !
A LOT of Pace and X Factor .
Couple of medium talls one for each end .

Rotham will hopefully end up an embley type of tall winger

Venables can hopefully be that goal kicking mid we need in the team once he builds a tank .

Rioli is a bang or bust type of pick .

Depends if the next draft is strong it gives us some more flexibility to have a rookie over a draftee.

We had a fair bit of time between the Rioli and Waterman picks not to mention the last month or so of preparation - we effectively have gone from picks 1 and 13 in the rookie draft to 12 and 30.

I concede you know more about how these things operate than me but I don't see the logic

It also points to us probably wanting to take Petrie still which is a nonsense

That blemish aside I think we've done pretty well with the picks we had, so for that I think the recruiters get a tick overall

None of these list fillers will play for us long term, when Duggan can't get a lock in best 22 it says our list is very healthy indeed.

If we were clever we'd jump into the PSD and get a pick in before the rookie draft begins, essentially getting a pick ahead of all the clubs with full lists already that are waiting for the rookie draft.

But we will probably just pick Petrie

SPP going where he did makes me feel a bit better. It wasnt an almost coulda been and we wouldnt have been able to trade up that high

At first I wasn't 100% sure he was the same guy until I found out he played for NT in the u18's, but I actually wanted us to draft him with a late pick back then, now he's here 3 years later lol!
Even though he was overweight back then, he had a really good goal sense.

He went to Clontarf College over here and also played for South Freo.

The Clontarf College student has terrific football bloodlines with the Rioli name being synonymous with Northern Territory football

In between his commitments with the Northern Territory side, Rioli played colts and reserves football for WAFL club South Fremantle.

In three reserves games for the Bulldogs he kicked 10.3 and was pushing for senior selection with five goals already to his name before injuring himself during the third quarter of his last reserves game.

After the U18 Championships he returned to Western Australia to play eight games in the colts for a return of 27.5.

“I enjoyed my time in Perth and enjoyed the footy season,” he said.

“The school treated me well and South Fremantle are a good club.”
