List Mgmt. 2016 AFL Draft

We've been pissing away rookie list spots for years. Most of the players have no hope of playing. You get the occasional gem like Gov

So get better at it and stop pissing the spots away. Bulldogs and Sydney in particular have made very good use of the rookie list

This rookie draft in particular has some decent talent still and we are going to burn 2 of our 3 spots on players we KNOW won't be on our list after next year

That's idiotic

Gee Keys you sound as hopeful as I did the night before the draft itself. :)

That turned out pretty well, maybe they'll surprise us again tomorrow!

If the club wanted to they could have killed off these Petrie rumours long ago but they haven't - it's been a long softening up process so that fans will accept the ineptitude when his name gets called tomorrow

It's moronic

petrie makes no sense. he is a terrible ruck and if injuries force him to play. his input I expect to be something like mitch brown in the finals (i.e. non-existent aka just play with one ruck when it comes to that)

hoping beyond hope we dont take petrie and would be awesome if some other team took mcinnes also.

Tinfoil hat theory - Simpson likes a source within the playing group. Now that Ellis is gone, Petrie will take over.

I won't be minding if Petrie does come across tomorrow. All this talk about him being insurance in the ruck, but he is more likely to be insurance in the forward line. An injury to Darling or Kennedy leaves us exposed, especially with Naitanui out and Lycett having an interrupted pre-season. It saves us from potentially being forced to play Allen before he's ready or moving McGovern from the backline, which isn't great for our balance

My mail says Mcinnes will go to Brisbane we take Petrie and he knows unless something catastrophic happens he is the Royals FF next year
And how reliable is your mail?

My mail is that there's a good chance a brick will be thrown through a window at west coast headquarters on Monday afternoon

Lold he used to be quite good but got 1/3 on draft night so he's shakey atm

So he got rotham right but not Venables or Rioli yeah

Genuine question - since we had offered brown a contract but then withdrew it when he said he wanted to pursue his options in Victoria, would you rather we gave brown another year if he has no other interest or continue down the Petrie path

So if you had to choose between the two, brown or Petrie? Neither isn't an option in this hypothetical

I'd go with brown personally
Tough choice. I'd probably rather play one short. But if I must chose then brown. At least he can sort of play down back

Correct he had us with Berry then Kerr at our 3rd
I'd been told by another reliable poster on here that he'd been told we talked to Kerr so when he was still there at our 3rd that's who I was expecting

Berry seemed the consensus for some reason - obviously played our cards very close to our chest with Venables to keep that one secret for whatever reason

Well I hope he's right on McInnes then so he can get back to 50%

Interesting to see what the deal is with Petrie. As another poster said he isn't moving to perth to play at east perth for one year. Must be something else to the deal.

If not.... then its awfully desperate from petrie to stay in the game for a pittance

WCE have had interest in Mitch Dobson from east perth as a tough at it half backer/midfielder.
Big lad good size 189cm booming kicking like shannon hurn

Dobson had a pretty impressive finals series, 30, 22, 27 and 22 in GF
There would not be a better kick in the colts comp, has a huge up side to his game if given an opportunity

Even Royal Eagle seemed convinced it was a split between the Vic/WA recruiting staff on Berry/SPP. Either something happened very late or it was genuinely a strategic smokescreen. May explain the English talk that had moment right at the end. Why would they be putting smokescreens out like that though? I don't understand what they actually gain from it?

If Petrie in means no Fraser then I'll happily accept that.

But Fraser has been training with the club so that 'promise' doesn't seem like it will be broken.

Taking both makes no sense. The only reason I suspect we may take Petrie and McInnes is that East Perth were ridiculously short up front for much of this year and it did nothing for Lamb's development. It may sound like a silly reason to take these guys but perhaps the development team feel that having a better structured East Perth, with something to aim up up front all year and a strong on-field leader/coach-in-waiting like Petrie, can be good not only for Lamb but also the young mids kicking it to them.
I never thought of it like this. Allen and Lamb will really benefit of having Petrie and McInnes playing at EP. Then next season we cut both and can then begin the development of some new kids.

FWIW I'd prefer an alternative option, but bringing Petrie in if Kennedy got injured is a better option than McInnes. Petrie is at least a smart and knowledgable player and his age can't take that away.

Allen would probably be playing reserves if Petrie and mcinnes are at EP .
