Not unless he decides to leave. Definitely won't be delisted and we don't often trade out senior blokes unless they're very past it (Lynch, Rosa).

Maybe end of 2018 but no indication that next year will be his last. I hope he has a corker and asks for a trade

Anyone think 2017 could be Schofields last season on our list?

Contracted until 2019 so doubtful this will be his last year

Mackenzie on the other hand

I would rather keep emac

We have four KPDs that would be first or second picked in most other sides and a defensive structure that works best when only two of then are playing so something has to give unless we persist with three talls back like we did in 2016. McGovern could arguably be moved forward but with JK, Darling and a resting ruck there already that makes us top heavy up forward

Interesting times ahead for our match committee and list management

Could be some quality trading out next year

Trading out Mackenzie this year made a whole lotta sense.
For us.
However paying someone 600+ (?) and giving up a high draft pick for someone who had down right ordinary form all year and is quickly approaching 30 on the back off a knee reconstruction... Yeah not sure id be all too pleased if we did that, regardless of where we at as a club. So I fully understand why he is still with us in 2017, its just bad business for the opposite party.

I doubt they'd have had to pay him that much (could have convinced us to pay a bit even) and the pick as well would probably have been either an upgrade or in the 20s. If I had been an opposition recruiter I'd have been targeting him strongly.

He was contracted, why would he take less ? And west coast clearly were right on the line with the salary cap so I don't imagine us paying a part of the salary was an option, which is the only way I saw that deal getting done.

I just don't agree with the sentiment of 'damn west coast should have traded him'. Pretty certain if someone was willing to take him and his lofty contract, we were offered a 2nd rounder and Eric agreed to go he wouldn't have been in the wings next year.

Was never realistically going to happen.

I don't really buy into the "He's just had a shit year and in poor form, who would want him?" argument.

Did that stop us pursuing Jetta? **** no. He was absolutely attrocious in his last season for Sydney. That's after a couple other ordinary seasons as well. Geelong still poached Selwood despite the fact he was shit and recovering from injury last year. Just like Mackenzie.

Having X value on our list, doesn't mean they will have the same value at the next club. We should have got in his ear and traded that sumbitch.

In any week where Gov or Barrass is out we will be really happy he is on our list.
Exactly this, he is not only a third string option for us, but there would be a minimal decrease in output from the position when Emac plays. Gov has shown he can get quite sore during a season, this could be an opportunity rest him at times instead of pushing him had all season, with a more than capable replacement in Emac. Depth is very important in the AFL especially in KPP and Rucks as we have found out the past 6 months.

Naturally, but it's a big sum to be paying to a backup.
It is, but that contract was done when he was one of the best tall defenders in the league

Had we traded him we'd still be paying some of his salary to play for someone else

He had a contract and didn't want to leave preferring instead to win his spot back

Hopefully he gets back to his best or somewhere very close to it
