Lobbe & Jonas will be feeling really good after reading this thread.. Lol's if they make all Aussie team in 2017

I would feel pretty good if I were getting paid 6 figures to play a professional sport that I'm not even very good at and landed myself at such a mediocre club that I could carve a 10 year career out of it without any expectation of elite level performance.

Pretty interesting thread, a lot of experts here. To be honest there is a fair swag of top notch players who have nothing to do with the first round so really I think everybody needs to settle.... There have also been a lot of first round players who have achieved nothing.

Leadership group sticking fat

Westhoff extension to 2019 is next I'n guessing

Something else going on trade wise eh? Cripps snuffed any hope of that out.

What a ******* cluster****.

Even though I'm still angry, I've been thinking about our ******* abysmal trade.

The logic goes Picks #19 & #30 are roughly equivalent to Pick #8. Pick #8 goes to the 11th ranked team. Now, in isolation, trading pick #8 for #19 & #30 in any given year is ******* moronic. This means we would need to finish higher than 11th so the trade looks like a slight win instead of ******* moronic. If we finish say 8th, we end up ahead on points and have the R2 pick which offsets giving up Pick #11 and thus a win. If we finish top 4, then effectively we've won the trade. If we have a bad year, we're double stuffed. I would expect nothing less than a total clean out of the football depart if we finish anything lower than 8th next year.

At this point, i'd be clearing out the president and CEO as well. One in all in on this level of ****ing unacceptable gutter trash.

Lobbe doesn't need to read this thread to realise that he hasn't performed since 2014.

I wouldn't mind Yonas being given a one year extension but to give a player who is not best 22 a three year contract when we are having trouble off loading contracted players is incompetent.

I'd be very happy if they both made AA next year but don't see much chance of it happening.

Since 2014 yeah however that was his only good year out of his whole career and even that was overrated .

You partially answered the question.
There is a limit if we stop giving them picks to match bids.
At the most they should be able to get 3 picks each by using next year's picks.

Points go into the 5th or 6th round and late picks are far too heavily weighted with value. Even ignoring these expan teams keep obtaining picks for players leaving which we can't artificially stop no matter how much you want to I don't think we will ever see a limit to a team picking up talented academy players caused by lack of picks.

I would say that gws could pick up this crazy boon of settlefield , perryman , macreadie , mutch and sproule within the current rules without these picks they have traded in simply thanks to the 20% discount , picks from round 1-5/6 and dipping into next years picks. Or simply trade players out that aren't reaching their potential or want to go home as they are doing now.

The only real limit is the quality of the players ie are they worth gws/gcs or whoever picking them up and the squad list size.

3 picks in the top 30 guys. Could be drafting a real batch of talent. Bar Moore and Butcher our recent drafting has been pretty good.

Another two in the ilk of Wines, Wingard, Impey, DBJ and things are looking up.

Obviously Jonas had offers from other clubs to pick him up as a DFA.

We don't want to lose him for nothing, but we don't want to pay him best 22 salary, so we add on a year or two to his contract and pay him as a depth player, in the realms of S.Gray/P.Stewart.

The best outcome is that we get a best 22 player on a cheap as **** wage for three years.

The worst outcome is that we get a depth player on an average wage for three years.

We've officially lost the plot. Trading next year's first rounder for 19 and 30 smacks of short term decision making to save people's jobs today rather than invest in the future. Who is providing governance over the football department and letting them get away with this crap?

Also FFS, how hard is it to implement some basic principles on the management of player contracts - something like:

All contracts are to be limited to a maximum of 2 years.

Exception 1: Up to 3 years allowed for a Top 5 player at the club.
Exception 2: Maximum of 1 year for anyone 30 years or older.
Exception 3: No other exceptions.

And a 3 year deal to Jonas who's borderline best 25? Not even Willy Wonka could sugarcoat that one haha.
