It would be a mistake for us to have a crack at Gibbs.

We need to be drafting kids. We need to find an elite mid with pick 9. We can't afford to keep stacking the 26-29 year old region of our list with all the talent.

Meanwhile good get by the Crows to get Gibbs looking at a move home. Really intrigued to see what Carlton's position is. I can imagine that their rebuild means they'll be happy to let him go, but given they hold all the cards they're surely going to make the Crows pay up big. They'd probably go to the table asking for 13+McGovern, but will most likely end up with 13 + CEY/Lyons given the Crows plethora of inside mids.

The reason why Gibbs wants to leave Carlton is because Bolton actually wants Gibbs to defend, and Bryce has quite obviously chucked it in and said 'trade me to a club where my front running ways will fit right in with the rest of the squad'.

Hence why he's going to Adelaide.

They didn't learn with Menzel last year, who Carlton got rid of for 'cheap' - and they are going back to the same poisoned well again? ****ing ludicrous.

In a side that is full of hard nuts, Gibbs would be fantastic as an outside player - Sydney, Bulldogs etc. But at Adelaide, where the hardest player is a 34 year old Scott Thompson? Please.

Smacks of a desperation move from a club that needs a good news story to deflect from the fact that in the softest year for a premiership since they last won the flag, and with minimal injuries, they could only finish 5th. And a campaigner of a player thinking that he is going to be the prodigal son returning to deliver the faithful to the promised land.

They can have him for their third round pick as far as I'm concerned.

It's as much a mistake for the Crows to cough up a first round draft pick for Gibbs as it would be if we did so. The Crows need young centre square mids just as much, if not more, than we do.

Crows get unders for a free agent Dangerfield who could have walked out for nothing but did the decent thing and sought a trade, but will have to pay overs for a 3 year contracted Gibbs.

Mentioned to my "crows supporting" work colleague that Gibbs requested a trade to Adelaide which he responded excitedly with "sweet"...I then asked if he had ever seen him play to which he responded "no, he's a quality midfielder right?"

Need I say more?

The customers don't need to watch games to know what's going on :drunk:

I abused Ross from the stands one day in the late 80's he finally turned around with a throat slitting gesture and the finger lol Northern End of footy park. Those were the days. He was a smug campaigner back then

He blew a kiss at the Port Adelaide Cheer Squad when he was copping some abuse at Glenelg Oval one day. It shut us up for few moments but not for long.

Did collingwood really just give 32 yr old wells a 3yr contract at 600K a season???
First thought - **** is Daniel Wells 32? Second thought - who gives a 32 year old a 3 year deal if the AFL fobids serious out clauses? Third thought - surely not $600k a year - gotta be media hype. Gubby Allen isn't that dumb is he? Or is he still offering GWS type contracts to older ex star players??

I'd be interested in Gibbs but only at the right price. I'd thought Barlow would be worth a look for a second rounder, something we could acquire from a trade out. Make no mistake, Gibbs is a damn good big bodied midfielder. He averaged 27 touches, 5 tackles and kicked 18 goals for the year for Carlton, that's elite top 30 in the comp numbers and it's not like he's a hacker either, he's got a good leg on him. The ironic thing is, he's basically a better version of Hartlett who we want to shop around, so had he wanted a trade we could have done a direct swap. Whilst many don't like him, he's not that bad a bloke and he's the exact type of player outside of a tall forward we need. I reckon we'd have to pay far too much to get Gibbs so realistically Barlow would be a better target, so happy for the Crows to get him, but don't be too happy about it, as I said he is still a very good player that should make their midfield better.

They haven't got him yet. Blues will play hardball and Crows will have to give up a fair bit to get him.

Collingwood has reportedly offered Wells a three-year contract worth up to $1.8 million.

Cannot reconcile myself with this. He finished off the season well with him having 20 possessions or more in 10 out of 11 games. But his injury record over the past two years has seen him play 31 games in 3 years. Maybe this kind of risk can be taken on a younger player like JOM but Wells will be 32 when the 2017 season has started.

Agree with all of this

I could be doubling up but:

Tom Mitchell has requested a trade to Hawthorn.

John Ralph @RalphyHeraldSun

Swans still offered Mitchell five years at just under 400K but a club like Hawks with cap room & need for inside mid was going to pounce.

Swans ranked Mitchell as the fifth Beatle & need cap room for Heeney, Mills. A conscious decision to lose one player, lowballed Mitchell.

Pissing money and salary cap up the wall, could be up there with Daisy Thomas unless Wells put together 3 damn good seasons. Some of the players Collingwood have been linked with has really raised my eyebrow for a team whose meant to be a youngish team doing a medium rebuild.

If, and it is an if, the Crows secure Gibbs they will have one of the oldest midfields going around. Thompson (34), Douglas (30), Sloane (27), MacKay (28), Gibbs (28) is really a now or never midfield.

Douglas McKay and Thompson will all be boarderline best 22 at best in 2017.
I assume you have forgotten the Crouch brothers and Atkins here too?

Mayne at 2 million over 4 years also has me baffled

As I posted at the start of the thread, we cop shit for giving a 26 year old a five year deal but no one in the media bats an eyelid when Collingwood give a 32 year old a three year deal. Even without the money that is WTF stuff.
