Disgusting effort from Nick, he didn't want to be out there. I've defended him quite a bit here but that was just horrendous, I can't blame that on the anti-Kyrgios bias. Guess it's up to him on his effort. Honestly, shapovalov must of been thanking his lucky stars, any chance of him choking was snuffed out by Nick's non-effort.

Tomic's effort was questionable today too. He won at least.

Sam got the win too as well today over Watson which is a nice effort.

If he doesn't want to be out there then why not withdraw in the first place? [EDIT: OK, It's mandatory but still ...] Why turn up only to 'serve' up this crap? This is indefensible.

He had a great chance to capitalize on a weak field and build steam towards the USO w/o the Olympics getting in the way and instead he jumps the shark.

Even the other head-case Dimitrov won. And that perennial underachiever Ryan Harrison. He won too. RYAN F***ING HARRISON WON. R U KIDDING ME?

Millman retired hurt from his match in the second set. Left wrist injury, seemed to have it from the first game.

Dasha and Sam through to second round.

Edit: Dasha beaten by Halep in straight sets.

Nick won his doubles match (so much for going home). Admittedly he's partnered with Jack Sock who is normally partnered by Pospisil but is currently partnering compatriot Daniel Nestor [EDIT: obviously practicing for Olympics] who are funnily enough Nick and Jack's next opponent.
