Kolodjashnij Henderson Enright
Cowan Taylor Thurlow
Interesting.
Cowan could be a revelation there IF....
Boris self selects, but for how long?
I have Guthrie and Bews in those spots

I would have bews there instead for a lockdown role BUT would like to see Cowan take that spot as i think he has a bit more creative flair and skill to run off half back.
Guthrie could rotate through back and mid with Thurlow as i like them both setting up play, both strong overhead for creating an option through the middle and some dash.
So in summary all deserve a chance and maybe one misses out on form which is a good thing for sure

It would be a great story to unfold if Cowan over the season starts to flourish in the VFL, gets promoted and plays well in the seniors. In fact plays so well he becomes best 22.

However I just can't see that happening. I just think there are maybe just a few too many ahead of him at present to get enough opportunity in the seniors to become best 22 in 2016. Would however be one of the best stories at GFC in 2016 if it did happen.

I'm still hopeful Blicavs becomes a permanent defender in the coming years. I think he spends a lot more time as a defender next year now that we have genuine midfielders ready to pick up the slack.
Blicavs would be a headache for any forward given he doesn't stop running filling in the hole.

Darcy Lang is the other one who I have often felt has a natural calmness to his game that is reminiscent of a young Corey Enright. Love to see how he handles a lock down role on a classy forward. His tackling is a highlight of his game and so too is his brilliant foot skills.

(P.S. Get Delaney off that list. Bloke won't play senior footy ever again)
So Lang would be your first choice lockdown defender if you were in charge? As in take the most dangerous small forward. Bews in support then Thurlow to provide run off halfback?

Which tall plays on the resting ruckman given the reduced rotations probably sees some rucks rest forward more?

I'm banking on:

- Taylor's presence. But I hope Henderson's inclusion will free him up to play a more attacking role.

- Henderson's presence. We didn't recruit a 26 year old key defender to see him do any role other than that.

- Mackie and Boris's presence, subject to 2015 form holding up. Reports of their demise are being greatly exaggerated on exposed form.

That leaves Lonergan, Kolo, Thurlow and Bews vying for the last two spots, assuming a running type from elsewhere plays as the spare/7th.
The more I think about this the more I'm going to have to wait until the NAB matches I think.

The Henderson argument seems to be sound. The price we paid you'd think he'd be used in defence. Do recall during trade time talk of us using him at both ends a bit, distinctly remember the word "versatile" used by the club. That puts the question mark back in.

Taylor is a lock. Enough said.

That's where the indecision is setting after that, have changed my votes at least twice.

I'd prefer Mackie more on the wing but acknowledge he probably will spend some minutes further back than that.

Kolo and Lonergan I cannot decide. Experience vs Youth. That old chestnut again.

Enright I do see as being ever present again in 2016 and agree his demise is being exaggerated.

That leaves small defence for which you know what camp I'm in. Interested to see in the NAB's what the preseason has done to Bews' fitness as he seems a good fit for lockdown defence.

Thurlow run off halfback as a rebounding defender. Seems to have bedded down his place now.

If I park the Guthrie as lockdown defender preference for a moment, if Bews can show he can run out games/quarters fully then I can see those defensive minutes spoken about for Guthrie being in the Kelly/Bartel mould as the 7th defender.

Guthrie ain't defending in any capacity.

Since we Lang is an option can we add Gregson as well, I think he'd make a great rebounding defender like Wojcinski they even look alike

That is my conclusion on the team makeup and the reason why I have avoided suggesting a best 22 or a defensive line. My only comments have been that I have thought that a line is too tall or too slow or the like.

Who knows if a player may make a leap forward on last years form, or for that matter take a retrograde step back?

And isn't good at breaking lines. Atleast not yet.
Hasn't shown it playing mainly in forward 50 but he has good wheels and can break lines no worries.

Gregson kicked that second goal from just a few meters over the line of the square. OK it bounced through just a meter or so out from the goal line. He still got good mileage on the kick. Have a good look at it.

Well he doesn't look too slow to me....but he's a beautiful kick, and splits the middle most times when kicking for goal from a set shot....may be more value up forward.

Looks like he will be a player for Geelong in the AFL for a long time.

Nail on the head there, David.

More value up forward for sure. Good goal sense

His goal from 50 against the pies. Phwoar!

Not many at 175cm make it in any position. You have to a few standout traits to survive at that height.
Correct. But those that do are mids or small forwards.
