Just want to float something Chris Tarrant made a successful transition from fwd to def for freo, can we try Liam Jones at CHB? He has pace and can go with any chf?

Thoughts?

I'm not insane just an idea

Isnt his issue effort on the field currently, he is a training beast but doesnt put the second efforts and multiple leads out on the park. Seems like that lack of mental determination would see him get cut up in defence no?

I think the effort has been there this NAB however if you're either Jones or Cas you eventually want someone to hit you laces out.. Kennedy from wce gets laces out most weeks where Jones is having to beat 3 blokes in a pack to grab a mark. It would get frustrating and then that's when the work rate drops off.
If Bolton doesn't think Jones is a chf/ff we need to use his height an strength down back or he needs to be delisted. Would like to see him in def NAB 3 then if he's no good he plays 2's all year and chop

The Doggies tried this, it went horribly in the VFL. We tried it last year too. He's just not a good footballer, and he cannot run out games.

unfortunately its going to take us a couple of years to rid ourselves of the poor decisions of the past. jones thomas tutt dick are decisions good clubs wouldn't of even considered.

That's not necessarily true at all - even the best clubs make mistakes with their list management.

Look at Hawthorn over the past few years. Brilliantly run club from top to bottom, but they've made some questionable decisions during their period of dominance.

No club can get everything right.

For years I saw Schoenmaker as Hawthorn's only deadwood/weak link - now even he puts on a form spurt. Every time I think we might be getting to the heartwood of our list we go and take in a bunch of sub-standards in the HOPE they come good. ENOUGH ALREADY!!

- Western Bulldogs offering an unproven Tom Boyd a 7 million dollar contract.
- Collingwood recruiting Jesse White.
- Hawthorn recruiting Jack Fitzpatrick (for now, it is a mistake).
- Richmond recruiting Shaun Hampson.
- Sydney offering a 9 year contract to Buddy (I doubt he will play for that long, I'd be surprised if he did).
- Port Adelaide getting Ryder (knowing of the possible consequences that were ahead).

I'm sure clubs would have considered the players that we were after, given the things they have done.

He has certainly attacked the contest with much vigour, but I am not sure I can say the overall effort has been there (I haven't seen him play live this pre-season so I can't really comment on his repeat running efforts). I don't think we can blame too much on the midfield when it comes to forwards being able to get laces out footy, the good forwards like Kennedy get "easy" ball at times in the forward line because of their work rate and their second, third, and even fourth leads. I think our first midfield will be good enough to provide those forwards prepared to work hard enough on the lead with opportunities for goals.

You are always going to struggle if your only trick to getting marks inside the forward 50 are pack marks against multiple opposition, we even saw McKay on Sunday take a forward 50 through hard running.

not really what i was getting at. decisions aren't just on the players ability. would anyone give jones 3 years? would have anyone have given thomas such a large long term deal when he is injury prone? in a rebuilding phase what does tutt or dick bring to the table that we didn't really have? these decisions have really impacted our chance to rebuild. having said that i think what we did last season was very good.

Talented, athletic and skilful player who never really asserted himself after recovering from bouts of injury; first round pick too.

I wish we had more of those, because they'd get plenty of chances to turn it around.

Ok. Not sure if this is the right thread but the Mckay setback may have a tiny silver lining.

As upset and annoyed as I am that Harry will miss ten weeks, his injury opens the door for a further rookie upgrade. This allows us to upgrade Byrne AND Gallucci which I think could be a real possibility as both could/should start in our best 22 for round 1.

Is the only positive I could find..

Im not exactly sold that Byrne is a walk up for best 22 yet. Granted i havnt seen a whole lot of him at VFL level, i just think there is a few in front of him and would have to have a ripping game this week to get a look in for round 1

B Buckley Weitering Plowman
HB Docherty ??????? Sumner
C Boekhorst Cripps C.Curnow
HF Lamb Mckay Smith
F Silvagni ????? Jaksch
R Philips kerridge Whiley
Int Cuningham Graham Gorringe DVR

If our younger players develop to there best, IMO we still need a CHB, FF and another bull inside mid. That team has a lot run.

NO!

Maybe also worthy of a no, but would like to see Gorringe developed into a CHB..............but only if he wants to. :)
