"Several sources" tell the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel Packers coach Mike McCarthy is "fed up" with GM Ted Thompson's "unwillingness to take a chance and reinforce the roster with veteran players."

Thompson has built an annual contender out of the draft, but his aversion to signing veterans drafted elsewhere borders on the pathological/neurotic. It's rarely brought up as an issue since the Pack are always in the mix, but apparently it's become a point of contention in-house. According to longtime Packers reporter Bob McGinn, Thompson functions mostly as a "glorified director of college scouting." Thompson's 2015 roster was his weakest in multiple seasons. Perhaps he'll finally take a longer look at veteran free agents this year.

Packers hired Ben Sirmans as RBs coach.

He's replacing Sam Gash, who was fired along with TEs coach Jerry Fontenot last week. Sirmans served as the Rams' RBs coach from 2012-15. He'll be tasked with getting Eddie Lacy back on track after a down year. Brian Angelichio will be the team's new TEs coach.

Dolphins hired Danny Barrett as RBs coach.

Barrett played 15 seasons in the CFL as a quarterback and slot receiver. He served as UCF's interim head coach after George O'Leary resigned with four games left in the 2015 season. The Dolphins recorded a league-low 344 rushing attempts in 2015. Lamar Miller led the team with 872 yards and eight touchdowns but he's headed for free agency.

Bleacher Report's Jason Cole reports the 49ers are interested in former Browns DC Jim O'Neil.

San Francisco has had to go in a different direction since Texans LBs coach Mike Vrabel turned down the team's defensive coordinator job last week. The Niners are also considering LBs coach Jason Tarver and Ravens LBs coach Don Martindale. O'Neil and ex-Browns head coach Mike Pettine have worked together since 2009 but Pettine said he's planning to take a year off from coaching. Ray Horton replaced O'Neil as Cleveland's DC last week.

Vikings hired Pat Shurmur as an assistant coach.

It's unclear what his exact role will be but it's a solid hire for a Minnesota team that ranked 29th out of 32 teams in yards this past season. The Vikings also hired Tony Sparano as offensive line coach. Shurmur has seven years of experience as a quarterbacks coach and will likely be asked to play a role in Teddy Bridgewater's development. He was forced out of Philadelphia when the Eagles hired Frank Reich as their offensive coordinator.

Bucs hired Southern Mississippi coach Todd Monken as offensive coordinator.

Monken will also serve as WRs coach. It's an outside-the-box hire, though Monken and new coach Dirk Koetter spent four seasons together in Jacksonville. It's odd from Monken's point of view, as he's coming off a strong year at Southern Miss, where he helped revive the program after taking over following an 0-12 2012. The Golden Eagles went 9-5 (7-1) in 2015. Monken previously served as the offensive coordinator for Oklahoma State, where he oversaw such talents as Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackmon. Koetter is expected to call his own plays.

Browns hired former Redskins FB Rock Cartwright as an offensive quality control coach.

Cartwright, 36, spent ten seasons in the NFL as a fullback and special teamer. He's getting his feet wet in coaching as a quality control assistant on Hue Jackson's staff. Cartwright spent two years with Jackson in Oakland.

Patriots fired OL coach Dave DeGuglielmo.

DeGuglielmo takes the fall after the Patriots' offensive line allowed Tom Brady to get hit a record-setting 20 times in the AFC Championship game against the Broncos on Sunday. "Guges" is a well-respected coach who had been with the Patriots for three seasons. He's been coaching offensive lines since 1991. DeGuglielmo was dealt a tough job with the Patriots losing LT Nate Solder early in the season and not having a steady starting lineup from week to week.

Titans hired Russ Grimm as OL coach.

Grimm is a Hall-of-Fame player who was once a key assistant for the Steelers. He's been out of the league since Ken Whisenhunt's staff got let go in Arizona following the 2012 season. Grimm has 16 years of experience coaching NFL linemen. The Titans also hired DBs coach Deshea Townsend, an ex-Steelers cornerback.

Rob Boras will remain the Rams' offensive coordinator for 2016.

Bears WRs coach Mike Groh, Al Groh's son, has been hired to help as WRs coach and "passing game coordinator." Boras was promoted from TEs coach in December, and oversaw the Rams' best offensive stretch of the season. He was creative with Tavon Austin while hiding Case Keenum. There's still a chance the wheels come off in 2016, of course. Jeff Fisher has one of the league's least-impressive coaching staffs.

New Vikings assistant Pat Shurmur is officially the TEs coach.

Shurmur hasn't been a tight ends coach since 1999-2001 with the Eagles. He'll undoubtedly have involvement with Teddy Bridgewater, as well. Now on the wrong side of 50, Shurmur could have a hard time getting another shot to coordinate someone's offense.

Profootballtalk reports ex-Titans GM Ruston Webster is joining the Falcons' front office.

As is ex-Bears GM Phil Emery. They're being hired as "national scouts." The Titans let Webster's contract expire at the end of the season. Webster appeared completely out of his depth during his four years in Tennessee, but was dealing with a bizarre ownership situation. Webster has over 25 years of personnel experience. The Falcons are trying to restock one of the league's barest cupboards, and have five GMs/ex-GMs on the job, with Thomas Dimitroff, Scott Pioli and Billy Devaney joining Webster and Emery.

49ers hired ex-Browns DC Jim O'Neil as defensive coordinator.

It's a thoroughly uninspiring hire, but coach Chip Kelly had few to choose from. His fast-paced offense makes glory hard to come by for his defenses, which are forced to stay on the field for long periods of time, often leading to skewed statistics. O'Neil oversaw a decent Browns defense in 2014 before it hollowed out almost completely in 2015. O'Neil's unit was destroyed by the run and struggled against the pass. San Francisco's defense figures to be unrecognizable from the Jim Harbaugh/Vic Fangio days next season.

Titans hired ex-Jaguars OC Bob Bratkowski as WRs coach.
Bratkowski, 60, is another hire who has strong ties to coach Mike Mularkey. Bratkowski was Mularkey's OC in his lone year as the Jaguars' coach in 2012, and the two also worked together in Atlanta and Pittsburgh. Bratlkowski has a ton of OC experience, as he coordinated the Bengals' offense from 2001-2010 before linking up with Mularkey in Atlanta.

Steelers OC Todd Haley reportedly told NFL teams he was not interested in becoming a head coach this offseason.

The Dolphins were rumored to have interest in Haley shortly after the season, but nothing materialized. Despite several critical injuries, Haley's Steelers offenses have ranked seventh and fourth in the NFL in points the past two seasons. Haley is also said to have mellowed since his hot-head days. With Ben Roethlisberger, Le'Veon Bell, Antonio Brown, Martavis Bryant, and Markus Wheaton all returning, Haley's offense is a favorite to lead the NFL in scoring in 2016.

Browns hired Andrew Berry as vice president of player personnel.

With "numbers guy" Sashi Brown serving as de-facto GM, this is the top personnel position in the Browns' organization. Considering the lack of NFL scouting history for both Brown and chief strategy officer Paul DePodesta, Berry's evaluations may carry significant weight in the decision-making process. Berry was with the Colts for the past seven seasons, serving as pro scouting director for the last four.

Saints retained Dennis Allen as defensive coordinator.

This was a formality after Allen somewhat stabilized the Saints' nightmarishly bad defense down the stretch. He took over for Rob Ryan in mid-November. Allen has long been regarded as a bright football mind, but bombed out with the Raiders and will be dealing with major talent deficiencies in New Orleans.
