Happy to say but never thought I would....I was terribly impressed with Neil Craig's interview from the CFC website. Did not want him as I formed my opinion of him from his time at Melb, being employed at * and was sceptical that he was a 'boys club' hire. But he said everything I wanted to hear and came across warm, knowledgeable and wanting to improve all aspects of the club.

"getting back to working with players and training, keeps me up at night. I'm really looking forward to it, already I owe Carlton a lot."

"The bottom line is the coaches are responsible for the playing group and I'm a great believer that how the CFC play will be a reflection on the coaching group. That's the influence they should have and need to have. And therefore we have the responsibility to our coaches to make them the best coaches they can be. If that means bring in expertise in from outside, then we'll do that... But in reality they're no different to the playing group, they need to operate in an environment where they can flourish and be their absolute best and apart of my role is to mentor, guide, be a critical friend and all that, I certainly feel that sense of responsibility to them"

And the sealer...
"...so it's a combination of all those things as well as we've already spoken about, you know the whole club needs to work together. Whether that be the membership, the media, fan engagement, comercial aspect..we're all in it together and not one of us can do it by ourselves. That's also an exciting part."

Btw, these quotes are for me later tonight...

Have to admit - changed my mind as well on NC! Let's just hope that when we finalise the coaching and support staff that we can engender a new spirit of optimism and camaraderie amongst the players, coaches, management and support staff - need to put Spirit back into the "Spirit Of Carlton"!

By the way, would be going after Chris Newman asap - NB coach?

I was happy with the work the 2 Collingwood Gavs (Brown and Crosisca) gave our club, so I am willing to give Josh a chance.

I think he'll be alright. Pure gut feeling and impressions from hearing him talk footy, nothing I know of true substance, but still.

CARLTON’S sweeping changes have extended to hiring an expert to teach players how to properly ride a bike.

Legendary Australian track cycling team coach Charlie Walsh has spent the past week at the Blues headquarters working with the players.

Premiership defender Ian Aitken is back with the Blues as the latest addition to the new coaching panel.

A half-back in the 1987 flag team, Aitken is a development coach with VFL affiliate Northern Blues, working alongside new senior coach Josh Fraser.

Tipping Craig was the cycling link.

Walsh worked with Craig the 8 years he was senior coach of the crows.

Walsh has been big in cycling for 25 years but the only thing I really remember him for was some kind of bust up with Kathy watt...

Fair call.

Goes from unnecessary footy department spending (remember we pay money into the equalisation fund because of footy department spending) to a necessary injury prevention measure. Cycling is good for muscle building, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness so I think it's an important training method.

Agreed, not sure if the high altitude cycling training at Buller is the way to go though.

You worry about clubs pushing players too hard in the pre season, especially at this time of the year (Hugh Goddard collapsing at Saints Training and hospitalized for example)

I think those fitness training routines are especially relevant for Boekhorst (and maybe Graham as well)
