Good reward for Hughes who's showing all the signs of being a player. Uber must be proving he was worth the pick if they're extending him so early. And of course always knew Pearce would get re-signed.

For me, Hughes is the really exciting one, and shows that all's not the end of the world at the club. Re-signing while the club's currently winless is a big thing for us.
In the end balance up, Hughes 2 years I like it, d.Pearce only expect him to get 1 year he get 2 year, uebergang my surprise of contract extension , really thought he lost interest with his performance in WAfL in recent week. I hope nyhuis get extension also the most consistent performer for peel deserved an upgrade.

Nyhuis convincingly beat that X factor docker delist in Duffy Saturday. Nyhuis must have XX factor .:D:p

I notice that on afl.com's article on the 2017 free agents there's a notable name missing. That'd be our Brownlow medalist. Now Gary Rohan is on the list and was drafted in the same draft. So by what we've got here he's a free agent.

Could just be shite journalism but the worst managed to get hold of Spurr and D.Pearce deals early. I'd say that more than likely they were signed weeks ago and the club just waited to make their press release. Something doesn't add up here either Fyfe's re-signed on the journalist writing the article has missed what should probably be his entire story (the rest of the 2017 free agent field is extremely bleak).

I noticed this one too. Could also be that the journo's waiting till he's back training at the club before making a massive story that he's the super duper free-agent of 2017.

But I'm going to assume Fyfe's re-signed out of love for me and Freo's going to do a presser for it when he's feeling better.

The way the article is written it seems to be a whole list of free agents. They've never left someone off the list before on purpose. Likelihood is the journalist has been given the list without Fyfe's name on it and didn't know his last deal was until 2017. If it's the journalists mistake it's almost unforgivable given the list would've come straight from the AFL themselves.

I'm hoping we hear that he's signed on until 2020 or something within the next couple of weeks. Maybe even a Neale/Fyfe combo. I doubt that though as announcing them at seperate times means more visits to the club website/Facebook page etc.

Is Fyfe a RFA? Maybe the list was only UFA.

(Disclaimer I haven't looked at the list and have no desire going to the AFL website to read it).
Nah there's definitely other RFAs on the list. Like Dusty & Gary Rohan from the same draft as Fyfe

I'd expect Rohan is definitely not in the top 25% of earners at Swans. I wouldn't be surprised if Richmond stuffed up and had Dustin's last year of his contract outside of the top 25% too.

Some arseh*le (me) pointed it out on twitter so now they've fixed the article. No conspiracy to see here. Just a mistake :(

So according to the OP there are still 13 unsigned on the main list, half way through the season I reckon you can put them into five groups.

1. Gone
Pavlich
Mzungu
Silvagni

2. Gone OR one year/rookie max
Hannath
De Boer
C. Pearce

3. Offer one or two years, good players but won't be a severe blow if we don't keep
Grey
Langdon

4. Free agency/trade, re-sign if no/poor offers
Clarke
Barlow
Mayne

5. Must keep, 2 years plus
Neale
Apeness

I think allot will depend on results over the remainder of the season. If we go on a bit of run and, despite the injuries to the best players and senior footsoldiers held out for youth, finish up with 8 or 9 wins the club may convince themselves that all they need to is reload to go for a flag again. Then it'll just be the regulation 3 to 6 main list changes (with a trade / FA / Rookie upgrade included in that number).

If they feel we are still short, but not too far off, then I think they may still be pretty aggressive with the cuts and look to free up upwards of 6 / 7 / 8 main list spots (not that we would necessarily then take eight 18 years olds; I think there would be mix of trades / FA's and mature agers in there). At the same time we purge the rookie list (either elevated or delisted) and stash some of experienced but not over aged players there (Clancee, the pig etc.) in case by some miracle we're up and about in 2017 and need senior bodies.

If we collapse again and finish 4 - 18 (and it's not necessarily the raw number of wins and losses, but the manner of them and what the younger players show in them) I think the number of cuts would be similar but with no rookie list retentions.

For bookmarking, here is my list of players who may leave (whether delisted/ traded / free agent / injury retirement / retirement etc.) in order of decreasing probability:

Mzungu
Silvagni
Pavlich
DeLuca
De Boer
Clarke
Pearce (C)
Hannath
Hurley
Smith
Nyhuis
Morabito
Grey
Barlow
Johnson
Langdon
Yarran

I think this

Mzungu play 100th then gone (try trade)
Silvagni gone
Pavlich Put out to stud.
DeLuca gone
De Boer 1 year
Clarke Checking out FA, gone.
Pearce (C) 1-2 year ext
Hannath (if Clarke gone the 1 year)
Hurley 1 year
Smith 2 year
Nyhuis 1 year
Morabito 1 year RL unless he plays
Grey 2 year
Barlow 2 year
Johnson already signed for next year
Langdon 2 year
Yarran 2 year
Mayne FA gone sadly, he’s worth a first round or end of first round.

Will be six out plus a couple of upgrades.
4 live plus one or two rookies.

Yarran gone too I reckon. He suits a team in contention which we were supposed to be but failed to do. With all these youngsters coming through I think it pushes him out unfortunately.

If out of contract possibly yes (that's why I had him on my list). He may only have a 1 year deal as, as per the CBA:

22.5 First Year Player
(a) When a first year Player is first drafted by an AFL Club, that Player and the AFL Club shall enter into a Standard Playing Contract for a minimum term of two years except in the case of a Player who has previously been drafted as a Rookie or where the Player is over 23

Can't see Freo delisting Yarran. He's just what we need. Who cares if he's 17 or 28. We could easily contend next year, the year after or the year after that. He could play til he was 35 potentially. You don't draft talent and delist within 12 months if he shows promise. If he spuds up the 2nd half of the year maybe, I just can't see it happening. He was tearing it apart when he played for peel albeit for only a half before injuring himself.

Why would you delist a player after one year when he's had injury that is not career threatening?

There's heaps more crap on the list to go before Yarran comes up
If you're in your late 20's, unproven, can't stay on the park and the club feel we won't contend for 3 years? Yeah you get delisted. I agree there are many in front of him. That's why I had him 17th most likely.

Some of you just like sacking people.

Yarran is the sort of player that could be very useful if we do shoot back up the ladder. Personally I'm not exoecting much more than just winning a few more games next year and contending for the eight but I'd rather keep a guy like Yarran than De Boer, Silvagni or Mzungu who have proven in the last two seasons at least that they aren't much good either way.

If things go well we could be back contending when Yarran is around 30. We could get 4-5 years out of him. I don't see a problem with that. Talent is talent, no matter what age you are. He needs more of a chance to show it. Low risk, potentially high reward keeping him on next season.
