I had him in my initial team, but I've taken him out. $607K for a defender is way too much. I doubt that there is any way he can maintain that price.Had Heath Shaw in my initial squad, not so sure now.
3yr ave - 101.4
4yr ave - 101.4
5yr ave - 101.3
Priced at 112, same as my view on Goldy - looking at him as overpriced & not willing to risk initially.
completely disagree. Paying a bit extra for the best players far out weighs the cash you save and the trades you use.Had Heath Shaw in my initial squad, not so sure now.

Interesting debate.
2015 was Shaw's highest SC year by far, so will he be able to keep it up?
Ranked 6 by year's end, with 13 scores over 110, and dropped below 85 only once. Averaged 112.6
Those are premo midfield numbers.
.
Complete opposite to your Goldy thinking at a similar priceInteresting debate.

If Heater continues with the big scores early, he could maintain his price, and then you'll be calculating ways to trade your mid-pricers up to him, or sacrifice a failed premo to get there. All the while losing ground on your competition.
On the other hand, he only needs one or two stinkers to drop to $500-520k and be ripe for the pickings. But he had only 7 scores under 100, and 4 of them were 90's. How far will his price plummet?
Having said all that, the money save on getting him now, may allow you to get better players in other positions.
eg (using similar pricing):
Shaw & Yeo vs McVeigh & Laird
Shaw & Stef Martin vs Bartel & Goldstein
and hundreds more combinations
So for me, he is in my starting squad, and will stay there until I see a better combination elsewhere using the money saved.

If you wait for all the best players to drop in price, which they all do at same point, your supercoach year is already done. Its a gamble I suppose. Last year was clearly his best and most consistent year. I can't help but remember all those 40's he used to come up with though. Nobody seemed to go anywhere near him last year for some reason, where in years gone by he'd cop a lot more attention.
I know there were no $600+ defenders last year, but did any of the top priced guys not drop significantly at some point? Hodge maybe?
I think the 2016 version of Bartel will be the 2015 version of Dane Swan. Lock.
Possibly. I know I'm taking that approach by selecting Goldstein straight from the start. I just don't have the same confidence in H.Shaw. I'll probably change my mind a zillion times though. If you wait for all the best players to drop in price, which they all do at same point, your supercoach year is already done.

And Jaensch??I wonder what sc def surprises are in store dis year.
Shaw was a gun best sc year yet.
Then those midpricers that came out and said hello boyz.
Laird breakout year.
Roberton back to the form he showed few years back.
Picken untagged those SC points.
Anyone putting on 6kgs in the preseason.
Oh yeah the Jwench.And Jaensch??
There's only a certain couple of players I feel 'safe' paying top dollar (600k+) for. Ablett, Fyfe, Pendles, Deledio. When you compare who you can get in the midfield for the 600k Shaw cost it just isn't worth it imo.
I would not be surprised if he goes back to averaging 90-95 also. Teams will surely tag him this year.
Its a tough one, he averaged 86 this year, and 92 in 2013 when Suckling did his knee so there could be more points up for grabs for sure.
On the other hand I think with Suckling gone and Hodge/Mitchell further upfield, he might actually get more defensive forward attention.
FWIW I've got a gut feeling Gibson might be the better option again

Its a disgrace that he's a MID only this year. If anyone should have retained FWD DPP its Swanny. He will play a lot more forward minutes than the likes of Montagna, Dustin Martin and plenty of other M/F's. Can't really have him at his price as a MID only.Speaking of Swan, he might even be a POD this year. Haven't seen many teams with him in it so far.
