fair enough, goood to get some height in the ruck department though we definetly need to develop an effective tap ruck

Absolutely. I still have hope for Archie, but I'd be happier if we didn't have all of our eggs in one rookie-listed basket.

n.b. 205cms is still pretty tall league-wide for a ruck

Most other teams have someone over that height on their list if not their first team. But 205cm is certainly tall enough.

Just checked. 9 clubs have players 205cm or taller on their lists (senior and rookie) and a number have 204cm players.

Preferably someone that can win contested ball.
Something we are definitely crying out for but I can't help but really, really want Sam Petrevski-Seton this year:D Hopefully Mathieson can become that contested ball bull we are crying out for.

It might be a bit controversial but It's become fairly evident that over the last few years (5/6) that we are a woeful contested side. At the same time we had no young KPP's and we have rectified that in some part over the last few drafts. Therefore this draft especially we have to just draft mids. In saying that our ruck division is totally lacking as well and we need to get one this trade/draft period and need a big bodied KPD.
We are in a bit of a conundrum academy wise as our two highly rated players are not inside mids. I have been going back and forth whether we draft the best player at our first pick and most probably have to use our two second rounders on Allison and possibly Rolls later. Or as another scenario we use our first rounder (3/4) move down the draft to two later picks in the teens. What does this do? One of these will most probably be used on Allison leaving three other picks in the top 30. Unlike KPF's in that the best are at least top ten picks you can get mids that go on to be very good players with later picks (Hannebery pick 30 and Parker pick 40). With those three picks we can add to our developing midfield brigade of Keays and Mathieson. It's all purely hypothetical as there might not be any teams to trade with to attain those picks. I have no faith in our current mids to take us forward and even though Beams will come in he is only one man and it's time we start to develop our midfield for the future.

I'd probably rather leave the top 5 pick as it is- while there's a chance of getting an A grader with a pick in the top 30, we are far more likely to grab one with a top 5 pick. We need more elite talent rather than solid B graders thanks to the bevy of top 10 picks that have left or not come good.

Edit- and hopefully a bullocking inside mid is available and appropriate at our pick.

Interesting idea of downgrading, I'd personally be against it. Tends to be the higher you are the more well rounded or dominate the mid is. The top end talent of the past few drafts has looked really good too, and for every Parker there's 4 or more Ben Newton, Mitch Hallahan, Kieren Hapers etc too. I'd hate to miss out on a high caliber player for a dart board approach.

We will most likely have picks around 21/23 as our second rounders, that works out to be 878+815 (2116 matching points, with the 20% discount) theres every chance we will get change out of those selections, for Allison. If the club rates those 2nd rounders as much as you do, hopefully they can bring in an additional pick around that mark without effecting our first.

One of the main reasons behind my thinking is I think that it quite an even draft at this moment in time. I really haven't seen any players put there hands up and seperate from the rest apart from Will Brodie and SPS and Ainsworth have credits in the bank from last years champs. I do hope that there are a few more that put their hand up especially those inside clearance type players we are sorely needing.

How quick is Allison in open space? What is endurance like currently?

Allison - endurance good (I expect around the 15 beep or maybe a touch under) pace average (I expect him to run between 3 and 3.1 over the 20m).

Rolls - endurance very good to elite (15.5ish beep) but again pace is only average (again around 3.1 I expect). Rolls does seem to get up to pace reasonably quickly though ala Green.

Considering how much the league and teams gush over the sexiness of having a super high draft pick, I'd much rather trade off that extremely speculative high draft pick for a bevy of lower picks (+ future picks) and focus on drafting academy talent only. At least we know they will stay.
The added surplus of picks, and those of future drafts, can be traded off if we find established immediate impact players looking to move to Brisbane.
To summarise; do not risk any high picks on non-Academy talent...capitalise on their over-perceived worth, trade down for a surplus of points and picks and invest in the academy and/or established players genuine to move here (i.e. Beams, Bell, Robbo, etc).

Sorry, in my opinion we shouldn't pass on a chance to get another Schache level elite talent. Our top pick should be reserved for that. We have our second rounder and Saints second rounder already, I am hoping there'll be enough points to cover all draft scenarios if we are going for Allison/Rolls/Watson/Dennis.

I see where you are coming from in terms of drafting local talent. However with Lamberts onboard, we need to back ourselves in getting the elite talent through the door and put the right system around them to make them stay.
