I'm aware of the Robert Shaw link which is part of the reason I believe we will take him as I said.

Lol why would I be 'one eyed'? I don't follow a TAC cup team with any passion and in fact if anything I prefer Vic Metro over Vic Country.
I have no reason or vested interest to have arrived at my opinion and have expressed it in a reasoned manner. Feel free to be abrasive and insolent though.

Please don't encourage him.

Ok, ok, look I think we can all be certain that out of McCluggage, McGrath and Ainsworth they're all going to be pretty good players and have healthy AFL careers. They all offer different things as they're different types of players. Knowing that Schache and Matho played with Ainsworth and that he has a bit of grit and attitude is one of the things that I like as we are absolute push overs when it comes to it. My absolute favourite part of the season was when Matho, Hipwood and Keays didn't take a step back and gave it back when playing against Carlton and we absolutely need more of that.

Plus he has had to deal with tags for most of the season iirc. Still managed to fight his way through it.

Getting tagged in the TAC is a pretty good distinction too, they don't usually tag there as I recall.

'Ran With' is the term they like to use in the TAC Cup. Doesnt happen too often. Pretty frowned upon at junior level.

Re vertical challenges.

Please forgive the inevitable Tasmanian intervention- Ian Stewart, one of only 4 AFL players to win 3 Brownlows.

Height- 180cm.

Also, played mainly centre square.

The legendary Hayden Bunton Snr was only 179cm and he won 3 Brownlow medals and 3 Sandover medals (and yes I understand he played in a totally different era)

.

Isn't Dodoro head of recruiting? Is Shaw still employed by the club?

In terms of draft order selection, all this talk of McCluggage, McGrath and Ainsworth remind me of the 2001 superdraft involving Hodge, Ball and Judd.

All were superstars of the game...

Just hope we get the Judd or Hodge and not the Ball.

Ball was a decent player but nowhere near what I'd call a superstar.

Yeah Dodoro is list manager, Merv Keane head of recruiting those two along with the coach will arrive at decisions. But Robert Shaw did coach McGrath at Brighton Grammar this season and raves about him like he is the 2nd coming. Given the usual connections, and networking that happens at most clubs he has been championing his boy to the key decision makers. I'd hope they make their own call as I feel Shaw is a little biased and emotionally invested given his position but they will add it, along with everything else, to the weight of evidence I suppose.

Who do you guys like at your other three top 25 selections? A preference for smalls/medium sized players? Simpkin? Florent? Powell-Pepper? Venables? Gallucci?

Your key forward prospects look pretty bright IMO (Schache, Hipwood, Freeman) and you have some talented key defenders as well in Andrews, Gardiner and McStay.

Yeah agree with your statement about Ball probably not reaching super-stardom like Judd & Hodge.

In addition to the above players, it's crazy to think that Ablett, Mitchell, Swan, Bartel, Stevie J (to name but a few) were all from the same draft

Nothing insolent in drawing attention to the rubbish you posted on McGrath, you patronising twerp ,are you on our board because your own cant put up with the garbage you post as analysis and which defies evidence? Tell Danks the medication isn't working.
Good analysis and well constructed there by you. Much appreciated.

Actually I came here to share a video of Ainsworth I thought you guys might enjoy given he seems a good fit for you. I rarely use Bigfooty... I think I'm seeing another reminder why.

Wouldn't mind rookie listing Jack Hutchins, was named in the VFL team of the year at fullback and really rated him when he played with the GC. I was very surprised when they delisted him.

i'm hoping for Ainsworth, Berry, Simpkin and Florent although wouldn't complain if we got any of Bolton, Witherden, Logue, Powell-Pepper, Venables, Rotham, Drew or Fisher instead with picks 16, 21 and 22.

You're welcome here mate :)

Yeah, unfortunately there's a few around here who are old enough to know what manners are, but are generally unpleasant to anyone. Was your video posted originally on BomberBlitz?

Cheers mate! And Nunez.

Certainly didn't come to stir trouble. I have no ill-feeling towards the Lions whatsoever but I certainly understand if it's not mutual given the last few years of garbage at my club!!

Yeah I did post it on there originally TFB. How did you know that!? haha

I did a fairly lengthy post accompanying it saying why I thought we should get Ainsworth to the club. But at that stage I though there was a real live chance that we might have been able to strike a deal with Gold Coast or GWS by getting 2 reasonably high picks in exchange for pick 1. Which would have brought Ainsworth into calculations a bit more.

I was pretty disappointed we didn't get a trade like that done. But I guess you guys beat us to the punch!! Or maybe we were never really actively pursuing it.

Trying to be pragmatic.

At 16 (will be pushed back to 17 on the night) which ever of Jarrod Berry, Alex Witherden, Oliver Florent or Jy Simpkin hasn't been drafted. If they are all gone, then I would reach Sam Powell-Pepper.

At 21 & 22 (will be pushed back to 22 & 23, maybe even 23 & 24, on the night) hoping for Sam Powell-Pepper and Dylan Clarke.

Thanks for posting the vid and for sharing your thoughts.

Hi Houli_Dooley hope you don't mind, I plagiarised your article from Bomberblitz a couple of pages back. Great write up and video. There's a few of us sold on Ainsworth here. Though I would take McGrath before McCluggage if it was a choice between those two.

Was curious the other day when I heard you guys weren't deadset on McCluggage so went searching. Am I correct in thinking a decent percentage of that vision was from last year?
