This was their 2015 version :thumbsu: Not many misses; think only Partington didn't get drafted, with 95% playing solid footy this year

3. Josh Schache (Vic Country, Murray Bushrangers)

7. Ben Keays (Queensland, Redlands, Brisbane academy)

10. Eric Hipwood (Queensland, Aspley, Brisbane academy)

12. Rhys Mathieson (Vic Country, Geelong Falcons)

Pretty bloody good draft for us. Going off that wasn't it.
4 inside the first 12.

very even draft this year, from my reading of various PD and power rankings, BF and MSM there seems to be a pretty unanimous grouping of (not including academies)-

top 3- McCluggage, McGrath and Ainsworth.
next 3- Taranto, Petrevskii-Seton and Brodie.

i see Scrimshaw, Florent and Logue being gone before our pick 16 and i don't think we will be interested in drafting Marshall or English.

so that leaves a group of players who could go anywhere from 10 to 25 that could be available with our selections 16, 21 and 22. IMO we will end up with 3 of-
Hayward, Gallucci, Venables, Berry, Simpkin, Witherden, Powell-Pepper, Bolton, Rotham, Clarke and C.Cox. any of those 3 would be great value, with an emphasis on the bolded IMO.

We've never been afraid to grab one that falls or reach for one that may be a tad high, but with potentially greater upside down the track.

According to Brett Anderson, whispers are that we won't be taking any WA kids; ruling out a few we all may have potentially thought were possible @ 16, 21, 22.

If true ,appalling. We should take best available. If we let fear rule, it sends the wrong message to other potential recruits.I would be extremely disappointed with the club. The club should never let fear, hamper /hinder our decisions. The Club needs to show strength and faith in its recruiting.I personally like shai Bolton & Logue at our picks 15 onwards. The club can no longer continue to let players dictate on their terms, if we let them ,then we may have well lost any chance of being a destination club.

Understand your point, however did you see Freo during the trade period acquire 4 'WA' players from other teams, maybe the fact that Brisbane and Perth are the furthest trip in footy might have to do something with it especially if players families are to travel or vice versa to see each other, maybe the club just doesn't rate those players around our picks, maybe they didn't interview well. There are a lot of IF's but it's a bit much to say that it is appalling if true when looking from the outside in.

I think we've only drafted Papa and Robbo recently favouring vic country more.

Freo is from a footy state with far more talent, depth of talent and has produced far more elite talent than , Queensland, a non footy state. Far harder for Brisbane to bring back Queensland born players because the talent pool is simply not there.Who is to say the reporter is correct or not ,only time will tell if he is correct, that will all be revealed on draft night. I do have serious concerns in the interview techniques of some clubs when they r asking questions like what is 230 divided by 4 , or spell fireman backwards.what is the relevance of that, in terms of recruiting a player. i personally find that a jokE. I take your point, ,a fair point it is too, that I Am making a judgment without all the facts but who is to say the reporter has all the facts ,he may be basing his reports on pure hearsay. Logic would suggest ,that saying all wa players failed an interview with us, I find incredulous to say the least.Something simply does not add up. If players are feeding us with crap because they don't want to come to play here and have the impression that Brisbane is a dirty word, it is then up to Brisbane to prove them completely and utterly wrong.May be we should put a sign outside the ground, under New Management ,new approach.

I think we will probably draft 4 vic boys. The 1 player who they may think about would be Shai Bolton at 21 or 22 but not earlier. He is a 100% hit or miss prospect, could be the next Cyril or could be on a wa clubs rookie list in 3 years time.

A Suns poster on the Suns board posted the mock draft that Cal Twomey created on his latest Road to the Draft podcast. I believe this mock draft was based solely on team needs as opposed to where he thinks the players will actually land.

I'm not sure Brennan Cox fills a need when we have McStay, Paparone, Dawson, Hammelmann, Gardiner and Cutler as mobile tall-tallish backs.

I can see where Mick Ablett was coming from here, he's identified we have a lack of elite talent in the tall backs brigade. I'm not sure Brennan Cox is the answer but it wouldn't be a total suprise. Our tall backs ... Andrews (potential star) Frost (lockdown defender) Mcstay (better up forward) Gardiner (still has long way to go) cutler (will play midfield) Paparone (not up to it) Hammelman (not up to it) so there is chance we may go that way. We may go with another type of defender with 22... Maybe Cedrick Cox and develop him over the first 12 months. I Can't see them using all four picks on mids. If we got Ainsworth Florent Venables I'd be ecstatic. Really like Venables I'd take him at 16 before Florent however.

Agreed but as for the other three picks Ainsworth, Florent and Venables would be a fantastic draft for us. Looking at their mock draft if you swap Gallucci(Who they have going to the Swans) with Witherden at Port's second pick and give the Swans Luke Ryan or Cedric Cox instead of Gallucci that would leave Witherden for us at pick 21/22 instead of Brennan Cox. Walking away from the draft with Ainsworth, Florent, Venables and Witherden would be a great draft haul. Below is my prediction for the top 20 with a few tinkering's to follow the outcome Cal Twomey has for us:

Pick 1 Essendon Bombers Hugh McCluggage

Pick 2 GWS Giants Andrew McGrath

Pick 3 Brisbane Lions Ben Ainsworth

Pick 4 GC Suns Tim Taranto

Pick 5 GWS Giants Will Setterfield(Matched Blues bid)

Pick 6 Carlton Blues Sam Petrevski-Seton

Pick 7 GC Suns Jack Scrimshaw

Pick 8 GC Suns Jack Bowes(Matched Freo bid)

Pick 9 Fremantle Dockers Tim English

Pick 10 Sydney Swans Griffin Logue

Pick 11 GC Suns Will Hayward

Pick 12 North Melbourne Kangaroos Will Brodie

Pick 13 West Coast Eagles Jy Simpkin

Pick 14 GWS Giants Harry Perryman(Matched Crows bid)

Pick 15 Adelaide Crows Jarrod Berry

Pick 16 Port Adelaide Jordan Gallucci

Pick 17 Brisbane Lions Oliver Florent

Pick 18 Port Adelaide Josh Battle

Pick 19 Western Bulldogs Cedric Cox

Pick 20 Sydney Swans Luke Ryan

Pick 21 Essendon Bombers Sam Powell-Pepper

Pick 22 Brisbane Lions Daniel Venables

Pick 23 Brisbane Lions Alex Witherden

We could possibly select Declan Watson later on in the draft to bring in another talented tall defender to develop and next years draft is stocked with talls so we could try and get a gun key defender in next years draft if we still identify it as a key need this time next year. I would rather us take 4 midfielders/flankers this year as this draft is jam packed with talent in that area.

Two guys I think are very overrated on here are Venables and Cedric Cox.

Venables is a mid forward who averaged less than 13 disposals a game across both the Champs and the TAC and went at under 50% by foot. Sure he looks okay on the clips but I sincerely hope we let someone else take a risk on him.

Cedric Cox is undoubtedly talented. Nice pace and some really good skill. He is also an impact player at the moment and needs to be more consistently involved in games. He is also an overaged player who has had issues fitting in to environments previously. He is from Halls Creek but went to school in Perth where he struggled. He finished school and decided to go to Darwin where he only lasted a short period before he went back to Halls Creek. In Halls Creek he bummed around for the year doing basically nothing. This year he went down to Victoria and, credit too him, he pulled his finger out, worked hard and made himself into a draft prospect. The risk with him though is very high and I am not sure we have the support mechanisms to give him the best chance of success.

I'm gonna put it out there, call me crazy but I reckon Brodie will fall to our pick 16. o_O:drunk:

GC will snap up Brodie in one of their 4 picks. After losing JOM and Prestia, they've picked a perfect draft to re-load on their midfielders.

I think your looking at Venables a bit glass half empty and I see it half full. He is a modern day player who uses his speed to break away, kicks goals at crucial times and is younger than most in his draft year but is stronger than most. Most of the top 20 players are 8-9 months older. He has Cooney And Dangerfield type speed and explosiveness at the same age. I acknowledge he needs to get more of the ball and improve his general efficiency but when it counted at the carnival he was a standout. All Australian selection too. I am very confident he'll be a good player in 2 years time. He'll need a good year of development.
