So who do we see being ready to go round one?

On talent and skill alone McCluggage starts for mine. Will fit in on the wing or half forward and barring injury should play a heap of football despite his light build.

Berry will be in the mix too I would think as he is physically developed and seems like a real competitor. I see him as a cross between Robertson and Cutler. Strong and fit and hard at the ball like Nick, but just with a bit more dash, carry and length to his kick. May not start round one but will surely debut next year.

Witherden might spend most of the year in reserves. Looks like he needs to add some kg's and get his body right. Really hooe.he pops up in a couple of years as that playmaker from rhe backline.

Cox is an interesting one. Will be interesting to see where the club wants him to play position wise. Like Berry he looks physically ready and could play early if we look to play him on the wing or as a 'not so small' small forward.

Allison to develop in the reserves, again will be interesting to see what we want to do with him position wise. I cant help but think of him as a paparone type, although more of a speedy attacking type wingman in the mould of Issac Smith.

Lyons looks a good pick too but at this point I would think he would have a few ahead of him in that pure mid type role.

Heading to the rookie draft we will have to load up on taller defenders. Perhaps one or two delisted or mature age kpd's are in our plans as well as a small forward.

does anyone know what is the maximum number of rookies we have spots for and can take.

would love it if we took a punt on Liam Ryan, booted 40 odd goals in the senior WAFL from around 15 games and i think all that with a 10.2 beep test result. huge boom or bust option but worth it with a rookie selection IMO, get him running laps with Nick Robbo.

I reckon we could grab a mature ruck to cover Martin and Smith. Playing with fire to go into a season with only 2 dedicated ruckmen.

I think we'll see Dennis prelisted.

All aboard the Cedric Cox bandwagon for me. I like the looks of all the new draftees though. I got my elite speed in Cedric Cox plus he has elite skills.

Our forwards are going to enjoy the inside 50 weighted passes from this man. Watched the video, now can't wait to see him develop and take that spot. Super excited on this one.

For anyone who thinks the draft is over-rated if it is done properly for a side such as ours it can have serious impacts later. Obviously identifying and acquiring talented draftees is step one and the real hard work of developing them begins. So in saying all that what a night for our club. The things that stand out for me in the first four picks (this is for the majority wher clubs acquire most talent in this range) are strength of character, football IQ and footskills. I was very much aboard with Ainsworth but emotion aside and looking at the collective I couldn't be happier.

McCluggage, what more could be said about him? What a season across all levels and all of this done with absolutely no pre-season mind you.

Berry was someone that I was interested after last years champs and I think over time be like a David Mundy type but if he plays back more than mid then I reckon we have a backline general. Tough and uncompromising as well.

Witherden is one we don't really know much about due to his leg. But again he was looking to move into the midfield before his injury and again he might be someone who over time can do this but footskills out of the backline is imperative these days.

Cox, run and carry and dual sided. I feel that overtime he will play a wing role and with his footskills into the forward fifty the big boys would be licking their lips.

Allison has his knocks and even though the number your drafted at is purely that, just a number but there is a lot of work ahead for Allison. Hopefully, again with the right development he'll be able to overcome what ever was the detractor. Could he become another outside mid? Possibly, I know some see him as a third defender and this where he might end up but it would be great if he was able to become our Embley/Isaac Smith.

Lyons, apart from an inside mid, footskills and winning the Sandy B+F know absolutely nothing about him.

Hard work begins, look forward to the Rookie on Monday. Hope we land another one or two who will add to our team.

3 more spots on rookie list, already taking into account Eagles coming on as a rookie.
Liam Ryan I reckon at our first. Supposedly we were on club at the combine who was very interested. Tony Olango at our second hopefully but possibly gone but if so another ruck and then one of the acadamey boys, Rolls.

If there are three spots to fill:

I would think maybe a backup ruckman, or a project ruckman.
A small speedy forward type with a lot of development potential, even if starting from a long way back.
Small defender perhaps? Or an outside mid with pace?

For the first time in a while we seem to have a lot of positions covered, even though most are very young.

Great draft for you guys.

The way the depth fell meant you could get top 10 quality (in normal drafts), with your first 4 picks.

Reading the paper I reckon you've done better than anyone, (bar maybe GC with 4 top 10s).

I'd love to see will minson on the rookie list as a coach/backup hybrid role ala Hudson from a few years ago. Great playing backup and good character.

Brodie, Ainsworth, Scrimshaw, Bowes. V McCluggage, Berry, Witherden, Cox.

i think we did very well in comparison to the suns when you take into account 3 of our picks were after their 4.

the only one i would swap over would be Cedric for Ben, guess we will have to wait and see for a few years to find out who won the draft.

Gotta say, very smart strategy to draft multiple players from the same area. Noble earning his crust already.

This was something we did previous to Noble.

Dennis as a ruck and Rolls you would think would take 2 of our rookie spots. went undrafted and we preselected them so we can take them as rookies now. Wonder if the 3rd spot we will look for someone that fell through or go another academy player.

Can't see us taking Rolls, reasons he dropped off the face of the earth other than performance towards the end of the year. Big fat do not want.

we can get Brodie too ;)

I wonder if we would have traded our future Port Adelaide first rounder for Ben if that was allowed in draft rules this year.

AFL are considering a good option here - clubs may opt to build off one draft by trading away the future first rounder to grab two top end players.

Well done guys mcluggage is a steal and fact you swapped pick 2 for mcluggage and withering is amazing. Test will be as long as mcluggage doesn't go home in 3 - 4 years as then questions may come up about passing a guy who wanted to come. But honestly mcluggage is too good to pass by and I was spewing you guys took him first!!

Mcluggage and Berry :)

Reckon 2 academy players in the rookie (one pre-listed) is a reasonable bet - seems to match how we've been attacking it. Dennis bolstering our ruck depth would kill two birds with one stone.

For the third spot, Liam Ryan is an option, given that the club has been rumoured to be interested in him. Other consideration is our small forward stocks. We've got Zorko/Taylor/Christensen, but they're mostly running through the mids (or backs for Christensen) now. I wouldn't be surprised to see us rookie someone like Kim LeBois to shore up our smalls.
