IMO we should only be granted access to father sons from players who played 100+ games for a single club. So we shouldn't get access to Zanottis or Malloy's boys(If they have any).

What about a player that came to Brisbane as part of the merger?

I think Molloy would be fine in that case - he had no choice really his team merged - the games were consecutive in the fact that he went from Fitzroy in 1996 to Brisbane in 1997.

Oh true in that case I take back what I said we should have access to Molloy's Son's.

I would be stiff for Malloy as he was there in Fitzoys last season and the Brisbane Lions first.

Sorry I didn't see your next post before I replied

The WAFL produced several mature age recruits for last years draft with Marcus Adams being the most notable. I hope our recruiters are over there sussing out the talent(They most definitely will be). Marlon Pickett was probably somewhat unlucky to not be picked up at the end of last year. If he has another good season this year he might be too good to pass up. He is a small rebounding defender with blistering pace and good foot skills. Exactly what we need and he is only 23 going on 24.

They are, don't worry about that!

Who's on the Wishlist this year and why?
Watched Will Brodie in a school match on the weekend. Is a beast for a young man. Will be a very good inside mid at AFL level. Tough, good extractor, quick enough. Disposal is not great but that's an area he can improve on. Based on his rep form, possibly rated higher than our first pick. Will get a better idea later in the season.

Really interested in this...
A number of posters have put out some very early phantom drafts and Knightmare is going to later this week. It's a bit early to state a 'Wishlist' but over the last few drafts we have gone with talls (McStay, Gardiner, Andrews, Hipwood, Schache) and most of those are suited to KPD so I think we still need to look up forward but I am not overly sold on any KPF this year and Josh Battle is spoken about but before I make my own judgements on him I will have to wait for National Championships. We have also taken a lot of utility types (Dawson, Cutler, Lester) so we are fairly covered there. Our current mids are in their Prime and sadly when it comes to contested ball we are frankly terrible, some other posters have highlighted that we fall down on the spread but I think it is both areas. Drafted Keays and Mathieson last year who are more inside types and way too early to say how they are going to add to our contested numbers but I think we need to go for mids (inside and out) a ruckman or two (national draft/rookie). As the year progresses more names will pop up to be able to answer your question properly.

sam petrevski-seton- great skills off both sides with electric pace and evasion. has been described as a cyril rioli type only gets more of the ball. if not going number 1 will be in the top few picks.

other than that i would say academy boys allison and rolls and then a slider or 2 ah la last years draft. note- the few phantom drafters who have posted their 2016 draft on BF have allison in the top 5 to 10 and rolls in the 20s, so we will need a few points for them.

after that i say we go the trade/FA route for a mature KPD or 2.

Re: KPF : We will get a decent look at Ballenden this year too, if he looks the goods, we could address that need the following year.

I personally like Ainsworth, had a great carnival last year. Worked well with Schache, kicked a few bags, decent disposal and sounds like he's developing a decent contested midfield game too. Only concern would be his height, adding another sub 180cm player to the list.

Cal Twomey commented on his last podcast that Ainsworth would be his no1 right now. As you have said he is developing a better all around game as well. The thing for me with this draft is that it is quite bland with respect to players that have really elite qualities however Ainsworth and SPS are the only two who do. I wouldn't be upset if he was to come to the Lions and if you also look at the two best Forward lines in the Hawks and Crows they can score with a variety of players in their forward line.

I think this year is really even and a player taken late in the first round/early second wouldn't be that far away from those in the top ten. Hypothetically if the lions moved down the order for two picks in the teens I wouldn't be upset. Especially if one of those was to be used on Allison leaving is another three in the top 25 to use.

And he does happen to be mates with Schache. Not that that'll mean much when making our draft selections.

I had a good chat to benny yesterday - We touched briefly on footy (some knee concerns at the moment) but he likes to turn the attention on other things.....anyway....Benny has had people doubting his height all his life....he won't make it as he's too small has always been something said about him. He is actually is taller than he looks and presents himself in immaculate condition. I am not concerned by his height at all, there is nothing that won't stop him making it. I know him well enough to suggest if the lions were to be lucky enough to get him, he and Mathieson would be like two peas in a pod :)

seen much of him? what are his skills like?

while we make the argument how we cant keep taking guys in the 180 and under range, id counter with we need more pure footballers with more skill rather than 185cm+ athletes who are project footy players

I have seen lots of him. Can run all day and has the skills to go with it. Watching him when he was in primary school you just knew he was something. I always thought he will end up as a midfielder (will play there more this season too) but you can't look past what he does in the front half. I guess time will tell how he ends up.

I was speaking to Nate Dennis's basketball coach who said Dennis was an unbelievable athlete. Apparently can really move and is around 6'9", he mentioned Dennis had a future in basketball but the Lions had got him into the academy and expect they will pick him up.

210cms? not bad, guess we are looking to pick him up as an overager....not good for archie unless there is a miracle

I was saying it was all well and good being that tall but a good ruck has to be mobile and have skills, and he was like "no he can really move and has good skills as well" obviously in a basketball context where the running isnt as much but is often at a high intensity. But is sounds like he could be a player.
