Nothing can stand in a tackle like Rock, he's like a ... umm ... well ... he's like a heavy things that won't be moved. Hard too. Stony you might say. Flinty eyed and all that.

Oh lord help me!

Thought I might get this back on track. This years mids I am not overly taken with and I don't see there being any true mids be they inside or out bar Brodie and a few others I am curious about others thoughts in relation to that opinion. So what're we to do with our picks. I don't see the likely acquisition of Ainsworth fixing our needs for small forwards. I don't mind if we also got Simpkin as well and it would take out pick 16 IMO. Will Hayward has shot up the charts and would be another consideration and a point of difference and would be there with our later picks. Ballandean next year and our forward line is complete for the next 10/12 years. Outside of these we need express line breakers especially out of the backline. Haven't seen any vision of cedric and feel that Jamie Hampton is another option and most likely in the rookie.

Suggest you read Kevin Sheahan today,he rates them superior to most years, citing 15 to 20 talented types worth playing, and that most of the top 10 will be walk up starts. I think he'd have a fair idea, and from what I've seen I think he's right, its fortunate we are looking for the type of players that are readily available to us this draft.

Link if possible?
Edit: Not to discredit him but it is his job to 'sell' the players and he is far and beyond above from what I know but he won't come out and say that it's not a good year. My initial comment was more in regards to pure mids.

Really like Jarrod Berry and Alex Witherden
Berry has Culter-like qualities (line breaker) and is said to have very good leadership skills.
Witherden has elite foot skills - something I'm sure that Fagan would be very keen on.

This kid is a beauty and would be a vg pick up at either 16, 21 or 22.
Is a goalkicking-midfielder which we're targeting and his good friends with Schache.

Might be wise to recruit Vic Country footballers - there are plenty of good ones to select.

Ainsworth, Berry, Witherden, Simpkin, Allison and Watson added straight to the rookie list would leave me very happy on draft day.

I'm just praying one of Berry and Witherden are available at pick 16, they're 2 of only 4 HB's rated in the top 30 by Cal Twomey, the other 2 are Scrimshaw (who apparently isnt keen on us and won't slide to 16 anyway) and Cedric Cox who I'm not sure on at all. If we could get Berry at 16 and Witherden at 21 that would be an extremely successful draft, I would've thought thats extremely unlikely though. As it sits Berry will probably be gone by 16 but Witherden should be available.

Something we need. I think a few of our boys might get put on notice. Hawks clearly had an intention to build a team with strong foot skills. I was trying to think the other day of any regular faces from Hawthorn that don't kick the ball well and the only one that came to mind was Langford whom I would hardly consider a mainstay in the Hawthorn 22.

While it is good to have good kicking skills, Western Bulldogs showed that maybe elite handballs in a contested situation under pressure are the way to go now.

Elite anything is good.
Remember reading about the Dogs and there focus when drafting was that they should be elite in something be it contested ball or hand passing or foot skills. It's rare to to get someone who is elite in more than one area. Just something to consider

Yeah, I think there's a tendency to forget that perhaps the Dogs' biggest attacking strength coming into the year was their half back line. Guys like Murphy, Wood and Johannisen aren't necessarily elite hand ballers.

This list is a conglomeration of Cal Twomey's September top 25 and his recent article of where he sees players being drafted.

Our pick 16 will in all likely hood be pushed back one spot to pick 17 if GWS have to match an early bid on Harry Perryman.

For me there are some clear areas of separation in talent.

There is the top 6. It's not a clear top six as it's possible SPS could slide a little in the top 10, while others see Taranto in the top tier.

1. Hugh McCluggage
2. Andrew McGrath
3. Ben Ainsworth
4. Jack Bowes
5. Will Brodie
6. Sam Petrevski-Seton

The second group of 7 contains two GWS academy kids. A bid on Setterfield will see GWS's pick 15 used to match a bid. This won't effect our pick 16. A bid on Perryman before our pick 16 will see pick 16 drop to pick 17. As has been mentioned, this doesn't change the talent pool available at any of our picks. All it does is move them all back one spot.

7. Will Setterfield
8. Jack Scrimshaw
9. Tim Taranto
10. Harry Perryman
11. Oliver Florent
12. Griffin Logue
13. Jarrod Berry

Next we have the two injured players who were highly rated in their underage year, and were part of the winning 2015 U18 Vic Country team.

14. Jy Simpkin
15. Alex Witherden

Next we have the two players who really are enigmas. They are the first two KPP's in this years draft, in a draft lacking players with true KPP height and skills. Will a team reach for them to fill a position of need. Or will teams wait until the 2017 draft, which is supposed to have quite a few KPP top end talent.

16. Todd Marshall
17. Tim English

As you can see, our pick 16/17, to me, falls right after the second/third tier of talent in this draft. We really are going to have to hope/pray/get out those voodoo dolls, that two teams in the top 15 of the draft "reach" for Marshall and English, and that one team is desperate for a KPD on the shorter side in Logue.

18. Will Hayward
19. Daniel Venables
20. Shai Bolton
21. Jordan Gallucci

22. Sam Powell-Pepper
23. Josh Battle
24. Cedric Cox
25. Patrick Kerr
26. Josh Rotham
27. Dylan Clarke

I'm not entirely sure why this board (and several phantom drafts) are saying we are a lock for Ainsworth, because I just don't see the attraction. Sure he's got X-factor, but he only kicked 18 goals in TAC this year. McCluggage got 25! Taranto got 14 and was mainly playing midfield.
This is a clear draft to get midfield talent on the list. Neither Ainsworth or McGrath are mids - I just don't see it with them.
For mine, a clear top six right now is McCluggage, Taranto, Brodie, Bowes, SPS, and Setterfield. If we don't get one of them I'll be disappointed.

I'm a big fan of this theory after the first round, give me the best player available first round and something to work with after that....will strike out a lot but only need to hit on 2 -3 each draft to build a successful list, the problem with our draft history over the last decade is year upon year of baron drafting which has resulted in playing kids too soon and setting them up to fail....rinse and repeat. Still I feel like we have turned a corner over the last cpl of years need to keep chipping away
