admittedly in Stewarts day you could be a 190cm ruckman.

i don't think McGrath will slide to 16 and the suit case to 21.Ainsworth, McGrath, McLuggage for me.
Come at me!
Or shorteradmittedly in Stewarts day you could be a 190cm ruckman.
John Nicholls always looked like a man mountain yet he was only 189cm. Admittedly very solid but that's shorter than a large number of today's midfielders and he was probably (along with Polly Farmer), the dominant ruckman of his era.Or shorter

Best footballer I have seen.Re vertical challenges.
Please forgive the inevitable Tasmanian intervention- Ian Stewart, one of only 4 AFL players to win 3 Brownlows.
Height- 180cm.
Also, played mainly centre square.
His overhead game is massive, not a problem.whats the chance of Ainsworth growing a few more cms as he is only 17/18 years old? His height is the only thing holding him back from being higher in the draft imo.
You're on fire mate! Not my own work I'm afraid. Found a good write up on an Essendon site and paraphrased it to a large extent. I did add a little from my own research, and some of my own observations as well.
The only knock that I read against Ainsworth is his height. No one questions his skills, athleticism or endurance. And one big positive that many analysts and scouts mention is his work ethic and drive to succeed. Same goes for McGrath, and add in his on field leadership and command of the game as another string to his bow.
Where as I have read people questioning McCluggage frame, will he be able to put on the muscle needed to compete in the AFL, without it affecting his game. People have noted McCluggage is not a contested ball winner, but rather is a player who can gather the loose ball cleanly by hand and dispose of it effectively. He doesn't hunt the ball, but rather positions himself to receive the ball, i.e. reading the game.
The biggest knocks against Brodie are his lack of top end speed, and that when pressured his disposal by hand can be poor, not the cleanest, and lead to turnovers. As an inside, contested mid, you need to have clean, accurate hands.
Biggest knocks against SPS. He had an injury plagued season and he's on the short side for an inside mid. If he was Brodie's size, he'd be up there with McCluggage vying for the number one spot in the draft.
Biggest knock on Taranto. He only plays one side of the field, the forward 50, and doesn't put in defensive work through the midfield. And again he is another who lacks top end speed. During the TAC cup, it was noted he most often played as general forward and not as a midfielder.
Best footballer I have seen.
Hard to separate him and Bobby Skilton who was my all time favourite even though I was a Royboy.Best footballer I have seen.
Anyone else notice from the short video of our draft interviews that two of the players shown meeting the panel were Bowes and English. Just saying. We interviewed about 30 apparently.
i hope we bid on Bowes at 3 to keep the suns honest and maybe they have English in mind for pick 21/22 if he is still available, personally i hope not but i concede Noble, Fagan, Conole and Schwab would have a tad more knowledge than me when it comes to recruitment/list management.Anyone else notice from the short video of our draft interviews that two of the players shown meeting the panel were Bowes and English. I assume we had to meet with Bowes if our trade week threats were to carry any weight.
English would be a good option if he slides.
Nathan Ablett?I'd be stoked with Ainsworth. Ablett qualities.
By all reports he was the more skilled Ablett! Just has the same social issues that his father has and couldn't handle the heat!!Nathan Ablett?
would be as well, i also remember seeing/hearing McGrath described as having Gary Ablett jnr qualities as well.I'd be stoked with Ainsworth. Ablett qualities.
we can't go wrong then.St Kilda list manager Tony Elshaug is the guest on Road to the Draft, and Twomey asked him for his top three for the draft, and after a bit of talk about the other top kids in the draft; SPS, Setterfield, Bowes and Brodie, he lists, in no particular order, McCluggage, Ainsworth and McGrath as his top three.
Great call!Ainsworth can wear the no. 6 of the similarly sized Luke Power.
Best of all he works well with SchacheJust had another look at Ainsworth's highlight reel.
Hard not to be totally impressed.
Looks like a better hybrid version of Ballantyne and Luke Power.
Where do I sign?
