Forcing Suns to use pick 4 on him instead of 6 really. With 4 6 8 10 they wont actually pick him, they will just wait until they need to match. Could argue it means Suns get less value from pick 4. If we dont Blues will. Think blues will be hoping we bid to make them match so they get more choice at pick 5. Suns could go Brodie at 4 if we dont go Bowes, and Blues could be keen on someome like Brodie.

Actually havent thought about who blues would go at 5, think Brodie would be top of their list though.

I think it's smart we create a perception that we are doing them a favour by leaving him alone,even if we don't want him,to possibly get a return favour down the track.

I hope we don't bid on him. If I was GC I would actually get in his ear and say "if brisbane bid on you, we won't match it but when that contract expires request a trade back here"

Getting stuck with Bowes would be a disaster.
Personally, I don't rate him...... and wouldn't select him at any of our first four picks.

Although I believe he is ahead of Aish at this point (pre-draft), I have him in the same "class" I had Aish pre his draft .... i.e. DO NOT WANT.
All Draft picks are risks, no one can be certain how anyone will turn out. Well and good if he turns out a gun, and good luck to him & GC, but there are much better risk options that will be available at our picks ........IMHABFDO*.

Sorry for harping on this point with Bowes (have I mentioned it previously??), but it just does my head in every time I hear/see/read that we "will" bid on him. I don't believe anyone bids on a player they're not prepared to take, and I have faith that our Recruiters don't rate him also (at least at #3).
My faith in them will be destroyed if we do bid .....(not that they would care less, of course).

thanks Crusha, impressed that you had Aish as a "DO NOT WANT" pre draft, with those Nostradamus like qualities in mind would be interested in who you would like us to take and are likely to be available with our 4 picks.

We know there will be 12 players selected between our pick 3 and pick 16. Gold Coast has 4 of those selections. As long as the Suns are forced to match a bid with one of those selections, then the available player pool doesn't change for us. 12 players (including Bowes) will have been taken. The only risk to us is if the bid for Bowes comes in after pick 10. That's the same for every club though - every club needs to ensure the Suns use one of those top picks. Technically, it is in every club's interest to ensure that the pick is as high as possible But not every club has a balancing interest of maintaining a spirit of cooperation between Academy clubs like we do. In other words, it seems to me that we shouldn't be the one to bid for Bowes.

Also worth noting that the Suns don't have any picks after pick 10 until really late so a delayed bid on Bowes would presumably require them to go into debt.

FWIW, I think there are good reasons not to bid for him even if we rate him highly. If we don't rate him, it actually becomes a moot point.

I fail to see any advantage to us in bidding for Bowes. We would be inviting a bid on Ballenden at the very least you would think.

I don't get this. If we'd like to draft him at 3 we bid on him. If we don't want him we don't bid.

As the likelihood The Lions having two top ten picks next year and the Suns also potentially having a top 10 pick in 2017 the best outcome for us is if North at 11 makes a bid for Bowes and Suns having to go into 1st round debt next year. Could push us higher up the draft on one if not both our first round picks depending on ladder positions.

I don't think you guys will bid on him, but this is a weird situation with the draft picks that GC have, it will actually stuff their plans up if nobody bids on Bowes before pick 10. Their recruiters have said they will select 5 players at the draft (Bowes, Scheer and 3 others), if Bowes isn't bid on by pick 10, they will select him and not get the academy discount which they are counting on to bring their last pick higher up the draft order to match offers for Scheer. A high-ish bid on Scheer in that scenario would put them into deficit for next year.

Ideally, the suns would prefer Carlton or Freo to bid on him, but they would be getting a bit nervous if it comes to Sydney's pick and he still hasn't had a bid. Like I said, I really doubt Brisbane will bid on him, but I don't see any animosity from the Suns with whoever bids on him as they actually need him to be bid on.

Suns will be bloody hoping that we don't bid on Bowes. They are apparently super keen on Brodie at pick 4. I hope we don't as well mostly because they will remember this and will screw us over eventually... maybe even bid early on Watson or Allison.

We don't have to match. If they bid a top 10 pick on then we won't.

Eli Templeton- small forward puts on good pressure, i liked the look of him when he first came into the system, no idea how he has been going the last couple of years, injury/form etc.
