I'd be happy to follow this years blueprint and hit the draft from all angles. I also think we'll trade Gibbs post-season and provided that goes through, we could well have 2 1st rounders and 2 2nd rounders.

Dylan Shiel is out of contract at the end of next season, so having discussions with him as early as possible could be very fruitful.

Add some raw TAC Cup kids, who've got the requisite AFL skills, and we're on our way.

Conspiracy time!!
Just listening to Zac Fisher on the radio and he's best buddies with Griffen Logue (drafted to Dockers). He had a slip of the tongue and said he always hoped to play along side Griffen one day. He quickly corrected himself and said "against" .

SOS is very good mates with Ross Lyon, any possibility we went for the two WA boys because they may also give us some extra bargaining power with the rumoured Fyfe deal?. Yes, I know we don't have to give anything, but still............

Am I just a bored idiot who needed to type something..............or have I stumbled across a cunning plan?????????/
Draft all the full backs

Clarke no doubt will be a solid player, can't question his endeavour and competitiveness but that's all I see him as is a solid player. Very limited ceiling from what I saw of him. Think over the next couple of years he will have an impact early days but then taper off long term.

The other blokes we chose in the 4th round could be anything. If we finally have our player development area of the club intact, I can see Williamson and Polsen having far greater outputs long term than Clarke.

Like i have said previously, Priddis would be smiling

Fyfe is a going to be a Free Agent. We should only target him if we can get him as a free agent. If we have to give up picks or young talent then he is not for us.

I agree to a point. But with the AFL talking about no compo for clubs in the future, expect clubs to start tossing in sweeteners.

Agreed. Have a crack at him if he's a free hit - otherwise take our hard-earned and offer it to someone else.

Fyfe
vs.
Dustin Martin + a first round pick

Easy choice for me.

Silvagni are you ******* kidding me, surely it would of been better to draft a kid like junker, or Jarman or the best prospect from the WAFL or SANFL.
Silvagni won't be a part of our next flag so why draft him ahead of a kid who might.

Can someone please make me feel vetter about this by either agreeing or giving me a reason why this has happened.

We need to protect the young KPD we gave coming through. He is only here for a year or two at most.

I have said a couple of times that I want to try and hit next years draft hard again. This means x3 selections in the top 15. How could this be achieved ???

1) If Gibbs wants to go to the Crows again then their 2017 1st rd selection comes our way. Think our list will be in a stronger position to trage Gibbs next year and, IF he wants to go and IF the Crows arn't being arse clowns again, then their 1st rd pick should get it done.

2) Trade out our 2018 1st rd pick for a top 10 (hopefully top 7) pick in 2017. I think we should be looking to move up the ladder in 2018 and with Ben to come in 2018 I think that accessing that little bit of extra talent in 2017 is a must

3) Out 1st rd pick, which I expect will be another top 5 pick, possibly top 3. I think we will put a lot of time in to the kids next year so we will have some short-term pain. I also think we did VERY well in 2016 so it won't surprise me if we go "backwards" in 2017.

I think it is important to get 1 more year where we take multiple 1st rd picks to build our nucleus. Draft in some more mids, develop our talls and then hit 2018 like a mofo !!!!!!!!!!!

Whilst I agree with this and hope it mostly happens I still disagree with your value (and others) of future picks.
If I were an opposition list manager and a club wanted my 1st round pick for a future pick I wouldn't do it unless the future pick would be better than the current. So yes I want to trade our 2018 first (10?) but I don't see a top 10 coming back.

I would rather trade the 2018 first for a player possibly homesick after GWS win the flag.

Yep.

I was quite shocked on Friday night with the players we took (given our paucity of MID's).

However with more time to digest the choices it seems we have gone with guys that can find the footy, seriously run, good kicks and play attacking footy.

One conclusion that can safely be drawn?

We won't be playing "stodgy" footy in 3 years time - if you're gunna beat the Blues be prepared run, run and then run some more.

If the guys can get the game plan together we'll be dynamite to watch.

Yep, gameplans are based around defending. Getting numbers behind the ball and around the contest. That's how all teams operate with variations in how they position themselves. Our problem has never really been our game plan but more so having the players to make it work and to make it work you need to apply pressure. When the opposition get it, apply pressure to make them kick blindly up the line and then intercept it. We've drafted some really good intercepting players and that's a great step. Weitering and Docherty are great. Rowe is alright, Marchbank will be alright, Simpson when he gets let off the chain is damaging.

These little quick blokes with a hunger to hunt the opposition just make game plans work. We saw it in the finals series with the Bulldogs. Caleb Daniel being the best example. His first halves he hardly touched the football but his pressure acts were first class and enabled his side to turn the ball over in their favor.

Even when we had a good small forward brigade, the three amigos etc, they didn't use their pace to apply pressure well/consistently. Those little quick blokes with the right temperament, they will make our side with chasing, tackling and pressure. Our strong defence will do the rest and if we build a good solid core of centermen then we should be able to supply the forward line which hopefully will be able to outrun and compete strongly in the air whoever they play.

Strong backline is pretty close. A team that can apply pressure is being built this year. We drafted some good young forwards last year and again this year. Our midfield is moderate but decent without injuries. We're getting there.

Geez we've done well over the past 2 years.

Quality high end players tall and small, SoS has done an amazing job to turn this list around.

Sure it's early doors, just can't help but be impressed with the building blocks put in place on and off (haven't heard a bitch from the committee in yonks) the field.

Make no mistake, we're heading in the direction.

I'm excited people.

SOS didn't want one of his kids to be left with the label of "the worst Silvagni to play for Carlton" ??? .....

Like the look of Lebois. Interesting that they rated Polson above him. The Silvagni decision doesn't excite or bother me. If he helps the young blokes then great. I doubt anyone including Alex see him as part of our top 22 but it doesn't hurt to have that sort of depth while young bodies grow.

And, clearly, they were only going to draft young players who have a good leg, preferably left, who hit targets and who were quick. I know nothing about Bunker, Junker whatever but if they didn't tick those boxes they weren't a look in. We've had big body mid fielders in the past who get the ball but can't kick - Bell, Robbo - and we've got one in the team called Kerridge. We don't need more.

There's lots of people who won't be part of our next flag.

Do you feel vetter now?
