Silvagni are you F-ing kidding me, surely it would of been better to draft a kid like junker, or Jarman or the best prospect from the WAFL or SANFL.
Silvagni won't be a part of our next flag so why draft him ahead of a kid who might.

Can someone please make me feel vetter about this by either agreeing or giving me a reason why this has happened.

We've hit the draft real hard, and traded for guys under 23 - need to balance the list with some experience so the kids have decent mentors and so in the case of injury we aren't forced to expose under-developed KPP's before they're ready.

It's not an area in which we needed it though. Surely Rowe & White will be playing in the ressies during the year and can offer this? While i don't think he is that bad of a player, it just seems a strange selection due to how many KPD we have

Rowe is the only experienced defender not Inc White

Honestly it's a rookie pick so it's no biggie

I'll be disappointed if he's getting games ahead of players that are likely to be there into the future though.

If Rowe goes down for 8+ weeks I'll be incredibly disappointed if he's not there as a fill in to give the young blokes a rest and plays more than 3 games in that period.

It's not about next year

Also for big bodied mids I think you'll find Charlie given that role next year and will become our version of Nat fyffe. He will be in stoppages when needed and given license to run around and take those marks. He's considered as good a contested mark as anybody at the club. He's going to wreak havoc doing exactly that on opposition midfield groups.
So the club didn't feel it was in any hurry for that big midfield draftee because charlie was as good or better than anybody in the draft
Let's hope this is true but hey worse case he turns into our version of J Roughead

Whilst I agree with this and hope it mostly happens I still disagree with your value (and others) of future picks.
If I were an opposition list manager and a club wanted my 1st round pick for a future pick I wouldn't do it unless the future pick would be better than the current. So yes I want to trade our 2018 first (10?) but I don't see a top 10 coming back.

I would rather trade the 2018 first for a player possibly homesick after GWS win the flag.
I agree. You saw what Hawthorn gave up to get St Kilda's pick 10 this year, that was a great trade for the Saints. Teams aren't going to give away a first rounder for a future first rounder unless there is an incentive.

The only way I could see getting a good trade for it would be with an academy team who have a lot of players coming through the following year.

Looking at how we drafted last year and this year. SOS has clear intention on what positions to bring in in which drafts.
Last year we draft KPP which so desprately needed, This year we drafted Mids and fwds with speed and good foot skills. also something we need.

If we look ahead a year with our ageing midfield of gibbs, murphy thomas, palmer ect SOS would be targeting mids next year.

surprised at some picks this year and the Alex silvagni pick up but can see the reason behind it as well.

Good draft, last yrs was better due to the high picks we had. but we wont know how good any of these players will be for 2 - 4 yrs.

also believe our team is better then what it was last yr. SOS is doing a great job so far. Up to bolts now

If white was getting games last year, Silvagni will be a massive upgrade this year.

Great move, allows weitering to play forward.

People here underestimate how good Silvagni is.

Another pattern in our recruiting - the family connection.

In the last 2 years, we have added Curnow, Fisher, Silvagni x2 (with more to come) and Kerr. All have a family connection to the club

Not sure what the thinking is, but my guess is that we have had a pretty weak culture over the past 15 years. Close family ties help bring together a young squad, and naybe help overcone some of the issues we have had. Kerr, for example, is more likely to take his chance if his grandfather's name is on the locker across the room.

fair call

Can we have an intra-club game next week???

Literally cannot wait to see these new guys in action.
I'm with you, but intra-club games scare the shit out of me... You sit and watch and hold your breath, muttering "please God, no injuries..."

Give me lane and circle work ...

But I can't wait to see these boys either. Last year was fantastic, 2017 will be even better...

End to end torps and spekkies......the Roosy way!!

I liked the Intra Club matches when Setanta was playing some serious ass kicking going on!

Plus Cripps cousin in the northern blues

He has the skillset and was already playing against men, so you shouldn't be too worried just yet. Think Lachie Neale.
Lachie Neale is 80+kgs these days, did you see how much bigger he was this year after a few pre-seasons. Zac is 14+kg lighter than Neale so that's almost 17% which means you cannot get any body on body in the guts or you are toast. You must admit 66kgs is even light for a forward pocket swooper

I've thought through this Silvagni pick until my head hurts. The only thing I can come up with is that the recruitment team have categorized the list to the enth degree and realized that for list balance they need one more crab to play alongside Liam Jones and KJ!

Their general uselessness and sideways movement is part of a secret trial to distract opposition fans from cheering on their team by putting them into hysterics!

#nepotism

Geez we've done well over the past 2 years.

Quality high end players tall and small, SoS has done an amazing job to turn this list around.

Sure it's early doors, just can't help but be impressed with the building blocks put in place on and off (haven't heard a bitch from the committee in yonks) the field.

Make no mistake, we're heading in the direction.

I'm excited people.

Frenetic change, but certainly not haphazard - supercharged evolution! You'd have to think that things might slow a little now and there will be a slight momentum shift away from personnel changes towards development?

Terrific 1AW is there as a mentor.

We traded/drafted in 4 Indigenous this year???

Brilliant!!!

Yes, things seem to be a lot more coordinated these days - more of a "group-think" happening with a view to the long-term.
