Reading Quigleys summary, am I the only one who reads Fevola in his description of Kerr?
If so, I like it!!!
Love those straight ahead lead up forwards. Call me old fashioned but it's how I like to see the game played.

Get Fev down for some 1:1 in leading patterns from the square.

Then get Fev the hell out of there the minute the session stops!!

Anyone think our drafting strategy includes what we will be demanding from the Crows next year for Gibbs?

First-rounder & Galluci?

Or at the bare minimum a first-rounder and Poholke?

With these exceptional athletes that have nice kicking skills and IQ, my primary concern is whether they'll attack the contest and put their bodies on the line.

That's one major obstacle to being a successful AFL player.

Any pick in the 60's is a low probability of success, hoping for some good signs from Tom next year.
His video on the Carlton website is impressive. Fast and hits targets. His combine results highlight speed and endurance. Will become a midfielder.

Early days I know, but even so, it looks to have been a great move to have done that trade with Hawthorn which effectively landed us Macreadie, Williamson and Kerr.

Really surprised GWS didn't take Macreadie.....and then overlooked Sproule, also
Sproule is now assuredly theirs, as a category B rookie pre-list, no less.

I see his tools more suited to potentially developing into a wingman.

Running through the midfield at AFL level requires a tough edge and an ability to read and assess the game quickly and in close.

It's very difficult to project Tom as a midfielder yet before seeing some VFL action.

No doubt Slobbo, Ralph and Connolly will be writing retractions about SOS handing Hawks O'Meara was a mistake.

I think our picks in this draft were spot on. We took who we believed were the two best mids available with our first picks, then kept GWS honest with a bid on a highly regarded key defender and ended up getting him. Another two guys who we believe are capable of playing as mids and then a key forward who could be considered a slider that has family links to the club too.

Four mids, all with speed, kicking skills and great attack on the footy. One athletic key defender with good skills, and one strong-marking key forward who is good at ground level too.

There was a clear strategy and it's one I love - we pick proper footballers first and foremost, but they have to be skilled, quick and not one-dimensional. Perfect!

In SOS we trust.

SPS interview - love that he sounds like he calls SOS .. sauce
Polson - impressive in his highlights, could be one of the great smokey's - pace - great disposal

Addressed needs with these picks - now need these kids to train hard and play senior footy ASAP (especially the mids)

Really??? I just don't see it....period. I just don't see how he adds to their list given their depth in KPPs. He'd never ever get a game so why pick him??? It wasn't just us & GWS who passed over Sproule, so did 16 other teams.

He's good enough to get a game at either end in 2 years, and he's trade value otherwise, especially from the Cat B position.

Free hit, so you take the free hit.

It's clear to me that we are targeting "animals"

Guys that run hard, tackle harder, and have mongrel in them. That stuff isn't taught, and has been missing from our list arguably since 95.

Always wary of picking up indigenous players with high picks. Backing Silvagni in here though. Yarran' problem was his family were involved in a lot of crime (jailbird father). That doesn't sound like an issue with SPS.

The Kerr story is another great chapter for the club. So much emotion now with the prospect of Silvagni(s) and Kerr running round in our forward line.

Another year where we have executed a set strategy. Add a couple of FA mids at the end of next season and I think you'll find we'll quickly be off to the races

Agree with all of that except the bit about Kerr being good at ground level. That's a weakness of his. That and his slow change of direction/agility which worries me about how he'd go defensively. He's relatively quick running in straight lines so hopefully with good delivery he can still be serviceable as a second or third key forward. Worth the risk with a pick in the 60s. Reminds me a little bit of Luke Mitchell we drafted in 2010 with a pick in the 40s. Just feel like people have been a little wrapped up in the romanticism of the Kerr pick and because we've been longing for a gun forward since Fevola. Would have preferred Sproule with that pick though.

Overall though I think we managed to balance taking best available with drafting for needs to achieve a great outcome.
