Across a few comparisons of Drafts & Ratings, seems SPS was a lock, Fisher was slightly early, Macreadie a steal, Polson out of nowhere, Williamson about right at the back end of the draft, and Kerr a major steal (which explains Fisher, Polson and Williamson in particular).
Good homework by SOS and the team. This one on paper has to be given a rating of A on potential with the gamble on Kerr being available at the end.

Twomey had Kerr rated at 30 and Quayle had him rated at 25.

Think gorringe Rowe casboult Jones and already lost a tall in Foster then Everett kind of tall. These need to be replaced.
I wouldn't be putting the Kerr game ahead of kj game by any means.
Kj has more tools for the modern game..
Gorringe was picked up by the current crew so they might be a little more patient with him.

The others? Under the pump you'd reckon.

Lost Foster, Jamison and Everrit, but gained Macreadie, Marchbank and Kerr. Think KJ needs a calamitous run of injury to get a senior game.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Sumner moved into the defense either.
Can't see a spot for him there, nor a reason why you would. Small forward with defensive pressure seems to be his niche.

IIRC Fox Sports had Macreadie @ 30, Kerr @ 35, Fisher @ 38 or Macreadie/Kerr swapped around.
Williamson @ 98.

This is how I got it. Looking back over Quayle and Twomey, they only went to 30 and neither pegged Kerr inside that. Not that it matters.

Not a real midget fan honestly.
I was thinking the same thing but I guess I'll have to back SOS & Co just thought taking 2 small WA mids with our first 2 picks was ballsy and I would've loved to have a couple of VIC boys only because we have been burnt bad lately with WA boys as first rounders especially

Don't really know what to make of this.

We have the thinnest midfield in the league and all seem smallish bar Cripps and Gibbs.

It is a heavily mid oriented draft.

We take:

1 x medium mid
1 x small mid
1 x tall DEF
1 x small FWD
1 x medium DEF
1 x medium FWD

I expected us to walk away tonight with 4-5 great mids including 2 bulls.

This is not at all what I expected.

I hope this is not a giant screw up!!
We should sack SOS and hire you

Wanna believe all the positivism but I have to say it seems we've brought in more guns than a Tennessee militia........
The optimism is expected but of course premature. However, it looks like we've got a list manager and head coach/coaching team that have a clear vision for the future and a focus on 'learning' (hear much of that pre-Bolts?) and development.

Those great performances this year against top third teams with some serious stragglers, were really impressive. After the Sydney game, I wished I could fast forward to 2018-19 and see what Bolts can do with a list that is his own.

I can see it: better aerially than Buckley; loves to pressure and chase; good, slick disposal.

Worth a trial in the pre-season, along with playing him on a wing.

Spot on here for his role. Was impressed with his pressure last season, thought the provided some of season's highlights along the way. See what he can bring to the table after a pre-season.

Small forward has a few options with Sumner, Wright, Buckley (Melbourne game), Lamb, Pickett, Polson & possibly Galluci back again.

No doubt we targeted athleticism and pace but kept our balance on types. Not bad seeing as we need a lot of different types. Comes down to quality now.

Yep.

I was quite shocked on Friday night with the players we took (given our paucity of MID's).

However with more time to digest the choices it seems we have gone with guys that can find the footy, seriously run, good kicks and play attacking footy.

One conclusion that can safely be drawn?

We won't be playing "stodgy" footy in 3 years time - if you're gunna beat the Blues be prepared run, run and then run some more.

If the guys can get the game plan together we'll be dynamite to watch.

I think you have nailed it. We have drafted player types that Bolton has ordered for the execution of his game plan. This is the sensible approach to drafting.

There is no point in drafting "the best available player", even if such a concept had any objective merit. What is needed is to draft "the best available player to complement the game plan given the players already on the list". We seem to have gone with players who instinctively play on when they have the ball in hand. This makes them twice as fast as they actually are and is part of a game plan that should bring us plenty of exciting football to watch, even if the results do not go entirely to our liking early days.

Conspiracy time!!
Just listening to Zac Fisher on the radio and he's best buddies with Griffen Logue (drafted to Dockers). He had a slip of the tongue and said he always hoped to play along side Griffen one day. He quickly corrected himself and said "against" .

SOS is very good mates with Ross Lyon, any possibility we went for the two WA boys because they may also give us some extra bargaining power with the rumoured Fyfe deal?. Yes, I know we don't have to give anything, but still............

Am I just a bored idiot who needed to type something..............or have I stumbled across a cunning plan?????????/

Could be on the money, though doubt we would ever actually draft someone with the express intent on trading them a year later.

In saying that, if it were our 2017 first (~4) and Fisher for Fyfe... #heartbeat

I'm going with the former - unless you turn out to be on the money in which case I have always suggested pm has his ear close to the ground where the white-ants, moles and turning worms congregate.

I'd do it even without BenSOS in the picture. Much like Melbourne in 2015 we'll have assembled the core of our list and be ready to start climbing. A F/S pick in the year we traded our first rounder would be an added bonus and reduce the overall risk of the strategy, as opposed to being the strategy itself.

I have said a couple of times that I want to try and hit next years draft hard again. This means x3 selections in the top 15. How could this be achieved ???

1) If Gibbs wants to go to the Crows again then their 2017 1st rd selection comes our way. Think our list will be in a stronger position to trage Gibbs next year and, IF he wants to go and IF the Crows arn't being arse clowns again, then their 1st rd pick should get it done.

2) Trade out our 2018 1st rd pick for a top 10 (hopefully top 7) pick in 2017. I think we should be looking to move up the ladder in 2018 and with Ben to come in 2018 I think that accessing that little bit of extra talent in 2017 is a must

3) Out 1st rd pick, which I expect will be another top 5 pick, possibly top 3. I think we will put a lot of time in to the kids next year so we will have some short-term pain. I also think we did VERY well in 2016 so it won't surprise me if we go "backwards" in 2017.

I think it is important to get 1 more year where we take multiple 1st rd picks to build our nucleus. Draft in some more mids, develop our talls and then hit 2018 like a mofo !!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think you have stumbled upon a cunning plan.

I will just leave it at that, pm....:D
