Out of all the draft prospects videos on the Tigers website, Hands down I'd go for Sam Powell-Pepper.
If he's still available that is, I'd be surprised if he was still around at pick 27.

Powell-Pepper possesses some special athletic attributes, with his size and power, particularly in the way he brushes off tacklers, reminiscent of Richmond's Dustin Martin. He is also not afraid to fly for his marks, and pull down pack grabs, like Sydney's Luke Parker.

We haven't found even one 'later gem' in over 10 years. Rather optimistic to suggest we are suddenly going to find a few don't you think.
I'd be happy if the recruiting department could simply bring in a later serviceable player.
Dylan Grimes missed the draft and we took him in the psd. Hes a good player.

Nathan Foley was a rookie. Gun before injuries.

Jake King rookie. Good player.

Short and Castagna rookies. Some promise. Markov a late pick and looks good.

Well boys...I guess it all comes down to the definition of 'gem' then doesn't it?

Some good players I'll concede have been put forward, however, my 'gem' is Sam Mitchell as an example!

Foley was taken more than 10 years ago and Kingy 2006/7? But they were gems!!

To help those wondering what sort of players we should be looking at in the upcoming drafts/delisted free agents periods here is our depth chart as the list stands after first list lodgement. Pretty clear where the holes are. We lack mid sized forward options, but resting midfielders can fill that void so not a massive issue. Very thin in the KPP stocks with only Jack Rance Astbury & Griffiths being established players 2 injuries to that group and we're in a world of trouble. Adding Prestia and Caddy has beefed up a very thin inside midfield group, while the outside midfield group looks well stocked with the possibility of Markov joining them especially if Yarran can get back.

Given the make up of the next 2 draft pools I'd be stocking up on midfielders using this years draft and then looking at using next years 2 first round picks to target KPPs either in the draft itself of being aggressive at the trade table.
RT can I suggest adding players into multiple positions if they are indeed hybrids ie Conca, Prestia. It helps be a true indication of our needs.

Wanted to keep it basic as possible

Remember Royce is a troll
He does make a valid point our drafting after the first rounds has been really poor. However I do think the last 2 drafts are promising, especially 2014.
Would rate these guys as chance to be above average or elite (ones in bold most likely)
Menadue, Drummond, Short, Castagna, Markov, Chol, C Moore.

This trade and draft game is easy, Just that our blokes are hopeless.

Caddy,Prestia,Nankervis = Tick
#27 & #52 Inside big bodied mids ( Dew & Begley or Poholke will do)

2017

Trade 2 first Rounders for L.Weller (freo) & Peter Wright (gc)
Free Agent Jackson Trengove (port)
First round picks are gold next year, would rather go the draft.

LOL we keep hearing this !

Peter Wright was also a 1st round pick and has developed beautifully with 3 years of development under his belt and ready to fir.

Who could you possibly get next year that at 18 you could say is worth more than PW - Would be a dream if our people could get this done

Lachie Weller is another player thats in a similar position to PW with 3 years of afl development and looks like he will be a top liner

I'd give both of them for 2MP tbh. Going to be a star.

Nice one Bobby. Stick your head in the sand. I'm simply highlighting our recruiting in recent years in latter rounds has been poor. Also believe a 'gem' is not Grimes.

I wont bother putting all our draftees here, but pull your head out and look around at times eh, the sunshine is beautiful.

Watching with interest how our recruiters go this draft.

Really hope we are right in his ear and Prestia has a good relationship with this kid, Nankervis & Wright could mean our Ruck position is sorted for the next decade and 2mtpete also contributing 40-50 goals a year playing foward

Lachie Weller or Liam Duggan both deserve to come back home as well

You'd have to give at least one first and a player/pick. No way just one first-rounder will do it.

Ive said this a few times, but where does recruiting end and development begin? Surely the player, coaches and our development programs have some input.

The new world of recruiting means that very few players - if any - really surprise to become 'gems'. Every recruiter knows the strengths and wealnesses of every player. There is a reason the likes of Caleb Daniel fall. Whether it be skills, mentality or physical attributes. What your more likely to be looking for with later picks (IMO) are solid citizens that can play a role and contribute. Grimes is a great example. Is he a star? No. But he plays a role.

Agree with all of that. No problem with Grimes playing. He has a role. This all started with me questioning the definition of 'gem' and that we need to get 'a few late in the draft'. We have, and most teams hopefully do score some 'solid citizens' late in the draft. Some other teams have scored some 'gems'. I simply put it out there we haven't got a gem 'late in the draft'. We have a few looking 'likely' and Foley/Kingy were gems from the past I'll concede.

I'll also concede development plays a role so recruiting doesn't take all the blame. That may even subdue Bobby from more trolling accusations ;)

I'll leave it at that and hopefully see some gems recruited late and developed into a Johannisen type
(a gem!!)

True but clearly Martin is an inside midfielder and a half fwd. Don't see why the peeps cant understand that.
Personally I'd like to see us starting him at HF and going into the middle as play unfolds rather than starting in the middle. I think he is much more dangerous in that role as he can lose a tagger in traffic. Although I suspect he'll be playing the way you suggest.
