Not too concerned about losing our 2nd rounder in the Hampton trade. As has been said, we should have enough trade currency to get that back or maybe even work our way higher up in the first round...... or both.

We are 1, maybe 2 gun mids short of a flag. Whether we trade for that or draft them depends on how close we think we are. Personally I'd be doing both. Whoever this years best mids are should be of high priority. Not being a draft guru, like most I'm relying on those who are to help !!!

Victoria gets the go-home factor which applies to the majority of AFL listed players. NSW gets the academies. SA has to share its young talent with Victoria and every other state - and this is a much smaller pool of talent than what comes out of Victoria.

I guess it all depends on what Freos doing with a KPF. If they are going to get Hogan at the end of 2017 when he is out of contract that may well suit them, but if they need it for Macarthy then they will want it this year.

This year we wont have too many options in the draft.
Having traded away our second rounder to GWS and with us hopefully finishing top 4, and with a slew of academy kids in the first round, there might not be too much for us to get excited about.
We really need a hard mid this year, and of course Jonty would have been the one, but as usual we wont be in a position to get him with our first pick.
Other than mids I think we need to look at another ruck prospect later in the draft.
There is also the chance that we lose our first rounder by trading in Neale, in which case there might not be too much to get excited about.
So who would be good options for a third and fourth round pick?
Im also not sure how Ben Jarman will go this year and if he cost us anything earlier, or if we go for him at all.
I dont mind Jorden Sweet as a late fourth or rookie ruck prospect, also Curtlys brother might be interesting at our first round pick.

Skippos might be able to give some info on Hampton, Sweet and Jarman.

I'm bullish about Sweet. Does a lot right. Rucks have really been out of favour of late so the 'burden of proof' is higher for them now to prove they're draftable but I'd probably like more about Sweet as a pure ruck than Ladhams.

Jarman reminds me a lot of perhaps a slightly poorer man's Ben Kennedy around his draft time. Jarman is better defensively though. He's a 2nd-4th round talent for now with that range to narrow as time goes on.

Hampton is probably the most one way player I've seen. He's still young and can fix it but on offence he'll go but on defense there's next to no pressure, no second efforts, low impact tackling and no accountability. It's indicative of a poor work rate and outside mids with poor work rate rarely make it. I'm demanding more from him this season to consider him draftable; offensive flash only gets you so far - and his flash isn't even 'elite' relatively speaking.

We have enough Forwards to replace Betts when the time comes (Menzel & Charlie). Biggest issue is Midfield for sure, but we're starting to have a few people looking at stepping into that (hey Milera and CEY). Best idea would be to grab someone who is comfortable as a defender/midfield in the back-line with the 1st pick we got, maybe a good rookie chance that people ignored with the 40+ pick and save picks/trading for next year.

This isn't really a hope. One of them is already AFL standard. Just needs a spot in the team to open up.

On the draft, I think a lot depends on what we get in trading/FA. Say we get Neale, I'd be looking tall in the draft. If we get Hurley, mid all the way.

Key forward needs to be in the back of our minds, but realistically we should still be looking at 5-7 years at least of service from Walker and Jenkins. That aspect can wait in terms of using first round draft picks.

Given our promising early form under Pyke and the age profile of our list, we need to be looking for immediate impact type drafting. This is especially so in the midfield department, another A-grade inside-out mid should be high on the agenda. We've addressed our outside needs well, but we need some A-grade support for Sloane and the Crouch brothers going forward. Now whether that's through the draft or trade, I'm not sure, but I think this is our key need.

That's what I'd do! I reckon you really always want to have a pick inside the first two rounds of every year.

Graham is as tough and courageous as they come, and has leadership qualities to boot. He was ultra-impressive as a bottom-ager playing 13-odd games of SANFL reserves footy, coming runner-up in North’s B&F. Last year, Graham was able to showcase his genuine explosiveness from a stoppage, a trait that is arguably his standout quality. Whilst also able to play off half-back as a line-breaking, running defender, Graham wins the ball, distributes it well and is rarely out of the game. Has been rehabbing from a leg injury, but has just returned to running since returning back from the Academy’s trip to America.

The only way we get Josh Battle is if our side absolutely capitulates or an elite player leaves. Neither do we want.

He's one of those players we can put in the 'too good for our range' basket.

We need an A class on baller who has some speed and can play inside and outside . We are still relying on Thompson to carry us too often.
