How were Jarman, Scharenberg and Jack Graham?
Graham plays with very high intensity and competitiveness but lacks polish especially by foot . Doesn't run angles and has poor agility but v good straight line power . Sharenberg lacks a differential , solid inside player but doesn't have great many layers to his game .

Didn't some of the under agers show plenty. that kid Spargo, Hayes x 2, Claravino etc.

One that caught my eye in defence was Reece Piper, great boot on him and liked SA's Stengle too.

Spargo is a favourite , another GWS academy Powell for next year just as good

Hayes has so much talent , kept trying to sell too many pups though

Hampton has talent like his brother but similarly doesn't always do the percentages

Didn't do a lot but showed flashes of brilliance a couple of times, definitely something there so I can see where you're coming from with him.

Really disappointing game from him I thought. I've seen him do a lot more. Hmm not sure what to make of it, he just didn't seem quite with it today.

Interesting stat just quoted by Mark Maclure only 35 - 38% of 1st round picks ever have long and significant careers....
Would like to see those numbers broken up by decade .....or even in 5 year blocks

With the recruiting dept's being better resourced and more professional with each year ....you'd think that the % numbers would be increasing year on year ......that said there are still difficult drafts where the talent isn't as obvious

You going to any of the U18 games or just watching on Foxtel?

Ended up seeing both U18s games between being in Melb for a couple of meetings. Fire away with any questions if anyone gives a f.....aaaark

Good news for crows (or Hawks) fans is that I think Ben Jarman is draftable . No world beater due to lack of pace and size but smart , skilful and tougher than any Jarman
I've seen . Good finisher . Not sure where he plays at AFL level , think he may eek out 50-100 games

Is Lyons draftable? If so, what range would you say?

Foxtel, often go to the Rebels games when playing at home.
Would be freezing up your way .....i've often said coldest place i've been in ....and that includes Mount Gambier and Kingston / Robe

Thoughts on Venables and Willem Drew?

Thoughts on Venables and Willem Drew?
Venables is a burst player . Flashes in and out of the game but could be a match winner in big moments - better forward than mid , can't see him full time mid . 1st rounder though

Would need to see more of Drew wasn't overly impressed but wouldn't write him off . Looks a 3rd rounder at best

Interesting to see Drew didn't have a good one. Was very promising against Vic Metro, I thought

Reckon Venables is the exact type of player we need. Strong overhead, has breakaway speed from stoppages, tackles well, very good goal-sense, has decent disposal - hopefully he can slide to our 1st, but I doubt it. Will be a match-winner, would be a point of difference in our midfield

Indeed. Our last 6 are Danger, Davis, smith, Talia, lever, milera. Hard to see 65% of them not have long or significant careers.

Going back over some video footage of the U18 Championships today I've been quite impressed with a young KPP Jack Maibaum 193cm 90Kegs, haven't heard his name mentioned much but I really like his game and could be a very good value pick in an area we don't have a lot of depth IMO.

U18 Championships wound up today at Simonds Stadium with Vic Metro going through undefeated and winning the title, SA's Jack Graham winning the Larke medal for the best player in Division One.

Some really outstanding performances again from Vic Metro's Andrew McGrath, Daniel Venables, Tim Taranto and Luke Bunker being among the better players and for WA Bolton was electric and Petrevski-Seton, Fisher, Logue, English, Rotham again impressive.

In the other game the Allies started to show why so many of Academy players are so highly rated, Kobe Mutch probably B.O.G. but strong performances also from Scheer, Marshall, Hampton, Sproule and Parfitt, for Vic Country Will Brodie, Dylan Clarke, Hugh McCluggage a bit quieter but is the classiest player in this draft IMO, under ager Worpel outstanding again, Josh Battle finally showed why he's been so highly rated, Korewha, Atley, Drew and Piper all had their moments. The big VC Ruckman Sean Darcy really caught my eye today and is definitely draftable, I can see a lot of Shane Mumford in him personally.

These comments are good. Yet I see them as fixables. Polish and learning angles and agility are all things to be worked on as a senior.

For sure - he's a good player just not quite a 1st rounder . Luke Dunstan would be my comparison . Steady player nothing fancy

Reckon Atley wouldn't be the worst at our pick , others in mix Powell-pepper , Taranto , Fisher (WA)
