Inside and outside game. Perfect fit on a half forward line, rotating into the midfield when he builds his body and his tank.

Anyone see similar traits to Petracca?

Ainsworth has more of that about him despite the light frame. McGrath too.

Taranto might have goal scoring ability once he's got possession of the ball near the sticks, but he's not explosive like those three names.

100% how i feel atm, ive watched both highlights packages 6 to 7 times today to try and split them. Im just leaning towards Taranto. Just.

I feel a Clarke or Drew will be available at 25 hence we pick the cream mid at 5

I'd probably go Taranto > Brodie > Scrimshaw > Petrevski-Seton as the mids. Not really considering Ainsworth as he looks more like a forward then a mid so I'd just rather more mids. Any one of those first four would be awesome. Looks like the top 9 are all awesome anyway :D
 
Don't know much about any of the kids.

But my criteria is simple: can run through the midfield, supported Carlton as a kid, doesn't smile too much and exceeds The Shiek Marker of Goodness of 198cm.
 
The scrimshaw video Was a lot more impressive for mine. Tarantos kicking doesnt look that natural to me and puts ne off a bit. I doubt Scrimshaw will be available at 5 but Brodie will.

With pick 5, I don't have too many concerns on who we take, more of who I would prefer not to take given what will be there class wise. I don't care about whether the play 10 or 20 games, in their first year, I look at projected class, next 2-4 years with this pick

Preference:
Taranto - A forward who progressed to playing through the midfield, both contested and on the outside. Has serious hurt factor, great vision and is a one touch footballer either in a marking contest or at ground level. This perception that he lacks work-rate is amusing, given he beep tested 15.9 earlier in the year. I would say he is more laconic. He seems to find time and space as many of the stars in the AFL.

Others I would be happy to select
Ainsworth - Zorko like
Setterfield - Mundy like
SPS - Kerr like
Scrimshaw - More versatile and aggressive than a Birchall

Yes, that's right I don't have Brodie in that list

I am astounded at some of the contradictions, in one breath people mention Brodie in the top 5, then they talk about picking a player with great disposal, staggering. His class is no where near the guys listed above nor McCluggage and McGrath. He struggles to hit targets when he is in the clear. An AFL environment, will help him to improve his kicking and handball penetration, as well as his vision, but he starts a little bit behind the others.

I would rather look at taking a Drew or Clarke later in the draft, both are contested players, with disposal efficiency numbers similar to Brodie

I am confident that I am the only person that doesn't rate Brodie as a projected top 10 player class wise. Happy not to be swayed from what I have seen

Looks like there are some seriously good options at the top end of this draft. Very happy to have held on to pick 5.

At this stage I'm leaning towards Brodie but I'll be happy with whoever we decide is the best option for us.

Brodie may have been overtaken by a few others at the top end but still projects as a quality AFL midfielder.
 
I'm liking Taranto as our Pick 5. Can roost them from outside 50 and put them through the big sticks.
Very exciting player.

I haven't noticed Brodie struggling to hit targets when in the clear. Commentators have stated that while he isn't an elite kick his kicking is reliable. Technically it looks sound to me. From what l've seen l don't have a problem with his disposal.

Taranto is the player who's kicking l have concerns about. Hopefully l haven't seen him at his best but to me his kicking isn't fluent and can lack timing. It bothers me enough to choose SPS before him based on this. If tarantos kicking was a non issue would take him at 5.

Brodie has penetration in his kicking, but really struggles to hit targets on a consistent basis, as well as hitting the scoreboard regularly

I wouldn't be giving up pick 5 for a guy that kicks at 55.4 % efficiency

I'm not a fan of the disposal effiency stat. I think its extremely misleading and fails to take into account so many factors. The kicking effiency stat might be slightly better but still isn't great. Brodie is typically under far more pressure than other players when disposing of the ball playing the role he does. If he played off half back all the time it would be far higher.

The efficiency stats need some sort of upgrade in how they are calculated because at the moment they are close to junk status.

I make allowances when players are in traffic. Unlike say a Setterfield that gets separation before disposing of the pill, he does bang it on boot quickly, without looking.

Have a look at the footage of all the Championship games again, you will see that Brodie is 50/50 at best when he is in the clear. Either short or overshoots targets with little pressure. Even when trying to kick to a teammates advantage. His technique and penetration is fine, delivery substandard for a guy spoken about in the top 10

Looks to have so much upside with the burst of speed and long kicking skills. Short kicking not as accurate though. My concern is he is a projected midfielder but has had limited time there. His game overall is two thirds uncontested and he is not as good overhead as you would want for his height.

If we get him I'd be happy with the prospect of becoming elite but maybe just a touch less safe for a club screaming for quality on ballers. His disposal efficiency in the champs was awesome.
 
Just something I notice when watching footy is that the great players seem to have a really distinctive way of moving and running, it's almost a signature of how they play.

Could mean nothing, but players like Judd had it, Cripps has it, Ablett has it, McCluggage has it, Ainsworth has it, Taranto from what I've seen doesn't have it. Just moves like a normal person.

I'm probably off the mark, but when I see players move in that real distinctive way, I feel they will be quality.
