A multiple choice poll may produce a different result.

Everyone has their personal wish list and then a player ranking.

A couple of months back I was all Venables with a splash of Ainsworth.

Venables is now a reach at 5 with his relative lack of exposure this year. Have to play it safe.

I just keep thinking midfielders first, flankers later. We have been burned by going for talent and x factor before we had a team to support it.

Fair enough. I just don't see them as close but I guess that's just me. It's a fit and better Jamie Elliot (Ainsworth) vs Scott Thomson (Brodie) for mine.

Gotta get the ball before you can use it. Gibbs is our second best clearance player and may leave in a year. Our clearance and contested possession numbers were down in 2016. We missed Carrazzo more than we thought we would.

Btw- everyone says 'even top 10' and yet it's not a raffle. It's clearly:

McLuggage/McGrath 1/2
Ainsworth 3
Brodie 4 (unless Lions force a Bowes bid which I doubt).

I think it evens out after that. Top 4 seem clear cut to me.

Florent reminds me a bit of Carrazzo.

Physically or game style? Can certainly see a resemblance with a little bit of SOSOS in there as well.

Just something I notice when watching footy is that the great players seem to have a really distinctive way of moving and running, it's almost a signature of how they play.

Could mean nothing, but players like Judd had it, Cripps has it, Ablett has it, McCluggage has it, Ainsworth has it, Taranto from what I've seen doesn't have it. Just moves like a normal person.

I'm probably off the mark, but when I see players move in that real distinctive way, I feel they will be quality.
Scimshaw has it

Agree with this 100%.

It's why I've gone cold on SPP and now Taranto.

With pick 5, I don't have too many concerns on who we take, more of who I would prefer not to take given what will be there class wise. I don't care about whether the play 10 or 20 games, in their first year, I look at projected class, next 2-4 years with this pick

Preference:
Taranto - A forward who progressed to playing through the midfield, both contested and on the outside. Has serious hurt factor, great vision and is a one touch footballer either in a marking contest or at ground level. This perception that he lacks work-rate is amusing, given he beep tested 15.9 earlier in the year. I would say he is more laconic. He seems to find time and space as many of the stars in the AFL.

Others I would be happy to select
Ainsworth - Zorko like
Setterfield - Mundy like
SPS - Kerr like
Scrimshaw - More versatile and aggressive than a Birchall

Yes, that's right I don't have Brodie in that list

I am astounded at some of the contradictions, in one breath people mention Brodie in the top 5, then they talk about picking a player with great disposal, staggering. His class is no where near the guys listed above nor McCluggage and McGrath. He struggles to hit targets when he is in the clear. An AFL environment, will help him to improve his kicking and handball penetration, as well as his vision, but he starts a little bit behind the others.

I would rather look at taking a Drew or Clarke later in the draft, both are contested players, with disposal efficiency numbers similar to Brodie

I am confident that I am the only person that doesn't rate Brodie as a projected top 10 player class wise. Happy not to be swayed from what I have seen

Did you cut and paste your Brodie assessment from a pre draft Patrick Cripps assessment?

If anyone's interested you can watch a replay of the TAC cup GF on you tube.
It's a great game to watch if you want to see all the players we will be choosing from at pick 5.
Brodie is big time for Murray, even more impressive because he went off in the 2nd with a broken nose.
Scrimshaw also really impressive, just so classy. Taranto plays midfield and even goes head to head with Brodie at stages.

Unless Brodie is a high accumulator, don't see him complementing Cripps. Cripps will be the best clearance player in the comp, Brodie appears a b-grade option for that type if we didn't already have an A grader. Doesn't have the vision of Cripps.

Can't have enough quality players who can hit the scoreboard. From the highlights, Taranto looks a great option.

Will Brodie and if he's not there Tim English. Since I believe Brodie will be drafted I'm the lone English picker.

English goes against everything I've ever been taught about the AFL draft but I believe he's going to be that good to be the exception to the rule. Typically, I am against drafting rucks in the first round of a draft. The late rounds and the rookie draft have been home to some of the better results.

I DO NOT want Taranto. Everything that I've seen makes me think that he lacks the substance to be elite. I have a feeling he'll be a very good B-B+ but not an A-grader. I hope he proves me wrong.

My third choice would be Petrevski-Seton. As much as he floats in and out of games, something I've watched and commented on previously, he's all class. Floating in and out at the under 18's level is something that can be coached out of him. The closest term that I could describe him floating in and out is 'boredom.' As though he's showing just enough for teams to know that he'll be exceptionally good at the next level but not enough to break himself before he gets there. As such I don't think he took over games as much as he perhaps should have at the juniors level but has the potential of doing in the AFL.

Hitting more targets would do me at this stage. Missed guys in the open on a few occasions, that will cost you plenty at the highest level.

Was a bit underwhelmed with the Taranto highlights package.
His Champs highlights aren't flash, check out the All-Stars game for a better idea of what he can do, but again it's more that he's a balanced mid that loves to push forward.

Doesn't buy his own space and time much, but he uses what he's offered well.

Voted Taranto. Goal kicking mid is just what we need. Fits the "hybrid" type that Trigg said we were keen on as well.

Edges out Brodie for mine as I feel he's too similar to Crippa. Like Scrimshaw too but think he's a bit of a reach at 5 given he isn't a proven mid.

Is he one of those types that plays better at a higher standard? If so, that is something to work with.

We require an inside bull,a clearance machine,we need another Cripps.
We take someone who can play Afl immediately..doesnt have to be elite just consistent AFL.
We take inside mids.
We take Brodie if we can.

Agreed. Just watched the All stars game and Taranto looks great. Body looks ready and has significant linking and outside skills. Can mark and goal! Loving Florent as well. SPP rocked it early but seemed to tire. Taranto or Brodie for mine.
