Don't know much about Tweedie but I'll keep an eye out if this sort of thing starts poping up regularly.

Also Jack Maibaum is a key defender what is he doing kicking goals? :p
Hmmmm, what a surprise I know Tristan Tweedie! Was always a decent mid in the juniors then he had a growth spurt. Not sure how tall he is but he is half indigenous and has some natural ability.

4 scoring shots from Meek isn't bad for a young ruckman also a couple contested marks is good to see.

Battle was a little wasteful in front of goal could have had more than just 4 goals. I still think that he is going too high for us anyway. I listened into the game with Pat Kerr in it and he was very good I hope if Battle doesn't make it to our first Kerr does.

The dream start to their 2016 TAC Cup season has eluded the North Ballarat Rebels, going down to the Geelong Falcons in their season opener by 28 points at Simonds Stadium on Saturday.

The Rebels started strongly, with debutant Izaac Johnson (Echuca / St Patrick’s College) kicking the first goal of the game, and after captain Jarrod Berry and first-gamer Kyle O’Connor (Horsham Saints) also registered majors, the Rebels shot out to an early lead. With ruckman Lloyd Meek resting forward late in the quarter and goaling after a strong mark, the Rebels looked set to take a lead into the first break before Geelong kicked a last-minute goal to level the scores at the first break.

From there onwards though, Geelong wrested the ascendancy away from the Rebels, gradually increasing their forward entries and capitalizing on some wasteful Rebels possession to take an eleven point lead into half time.

The Falcons increased their scoreboard pressure in the third quarter, and whilst their accuracy wasn’t as sharp as Falcons coach Andrew Allthorpe would have liked, the sheer weight of ball into their forward line saw their lead increase to twenty-one points at the final break, which was stretched to twenty-eight points come match end.

For the Rebels, midfielders Hugh McCluggage (South Warrnambool), Berry (Horsham Saints) and Willem Drew (Koroit) were the standouts, with all three important in keeping the Rebels in the game until late. Tom Williamson (Ararat) was effective across half-back as the Rebels’ leading possession winner with twenty disposals for the day, Lloyd Meek (North Ballarat juniors) was effective both in the ruck and when swung forward, and on-baller James Gow (Koroit) impressed in his first TAC Cup match since 2014.

After the game, coach Gerard Fitzgerald took many positives from the contest – including the Rebels first quarter and their effectiveness inside their forward line with 21 scoring shots resulting from 32 forward 50 entries, but lamented the ease in which Geelong were able to move the ball into dangerous areas.

“Our key learnings [from the game] was the inability to prevent really swift use of the ball from stoppages by the opposition”, Fitzgerald commented post-game.

“This led to the opposition going inside their forward 50 far too many times, which was a bit of the dam wall not being able to hang on”.

The Rebels Round 2 match sees them travel to Bendigo’s Queen Elizabeth Oval to face the Dandenong Stingrays next Saturday 2nd April as part of a TAC Cup triple-header.

The rebels are one of the best teams in the comp for putting up good reviews like this.

Also one of the only ones...

Players that I like or players that I think are going early?

Players you like.
Until I watch a few more games, then I will hold judgment. I want to watch eastern in particular.

Fair enough, I generally keep an eye on guys who performed well as underagers and judge a few of them on that at this stage but as I said above I'm waiting for someone from outside to take this year by the scruff of the neck.

I haven't narrowed it down just yet
But Berry would be up there from last year
Parfitt, Brodie, Powell-Pepper, I know there is another I want to really see play first that sounds exciting
A key defender to I believe. Hurewa or something like that?

Korewha? Can play forward too.

I also really enjoyed watching Simpkin, Ainsworth & Galluci last year
And I know Galluci had an ordinary game in the TAC GF but when he is at his best he reminds me of some of THE best midfielders

Last year called Oliver as the big bolter and that eventuated, justified being my favourite player of the draft with a rd. 1 RS nom. Hardwick was my other favourite and he nearly cracked the Hawthorn team rd. 1. This year I have no real favourite yet. Blank canvas until I see what the players are capable of. I naturally have a little ranges bias but I also really like the guys that come from the country and play that tough style of footy. Ainsworth obviously looks a real complete small forward. 7 tackles, won 6 frees, 22 touches and a couple of goals is basically the perfect high half forward game. Showed in the national carnival as a bottom ager that he can break open a game in a quarter too. I am a fan of Will Brodie and I think Setterfield has some nice qualities too. Both worth keeping an eye on. Assuming this year seeing as we have no need to target KPD we will either trade our pick (finally we are in a good position to do this) or take the best available mid.

At the moment my thoughts are quite restricted to the TAC :P and it will probably be that way until the champs.

I like the sounds of Jarrod Korewha and Lloyd Meek but have to see more of them. Alex Witherden from the Falcons is another I'm looking at. Hugh McCluggage and Myles Poholke are two who bloomed at the end of last year that sound like Dalrymple types.

I'm going to keep an eye on talls like Sam McLarty who could become the helmeted duo with Daniel :P and Patrick Kerr from Oakleigh too.

Also the Murray Bushrangers have some players outside their obvious guns in Jy Simpkin and Will Brodie those being Ryan Garthwaite and Harry Morrison that I want to keep an eye on this year.

I didn't really find McLarty impressive last year, he would often be positioned in no mans land

That's as a key forward by the way
