The five KPD theory (No i am not suggesting we pick up five)

Pick 18- Griffin Logue (unlikely)
Pick 26- Brennan Cox (chance)
Pick 50- Tyler Keitel (likely)
Pick 75- Mitchell McCarthy or Lewis Young (massive upside)

It is important we pick up one with the uncertainty on Adams
and the likely retirement of Morris and it also allows to still
focus on sliders and other players who may be around our
pick range.
I mentioned Lewis Young, mind you as a back up to our fourth
selection overall, two of the others were not even drafted.

I said it in the other thread, but I really think we should be selecting a ready-to-go defender with our solitary rookie pick. We've brought in a lot of developing project players this draft, but still haven't filled the hole in our 22 left by Hamling, there's likely to be another one with Adams set on leaving next year and Morris turns 34 this December.

I wouldn't say no to Mitch Brown (WCE).

With Dion going to Melbourne, Bulldogs are able to select any number of these players for the Next Gen Academy.
AFL nominations

Mading Atem (Multicultural), James El Moussalli (Multicultural), Kenny Ong (Multicultural), Jai Rout (Indigenous), Darren Allen (Indigenous), Jamaine Jones (Indigenous), Thomas Jok (Multicultural), Goy Lok (Multicultural), Francis Watson (Indigenous)

Think dalrymple will be pretty disappointed missing on 2 of his top 3 (Marshall and cox) and then Stewart with our 3rd to be completely honest.
He might be disappointed about Cox and Stewart, but it's hard to see him being upset about Marshall given he rated English higher and Marshall was never going to be around at our second pick.

I liked Francis Watson in his draft year, but haven't seen or heard much from him since.

Jok looks like someone worth developing, 190cm utility. Apparently has a good tank.

That's what happens when you win a flag: your picks end up at the back end of each round and it costs a pretty penny to improve your position - or lots of luck is needed for things to fall in place exactly as you hope on draft night. Long may it continue to be a problem for us!

Last year we had some luck with players we wanted falling to our picks. We'll probably never know for sure what Dalrymple's real order of merit was, and who we expected and hoped to get, but it does appear we didn't have as much luck this year...except that English falling to pick 19 may end up changing our minds about that if he develops to his potential.

Hamling is in no way best 22, he was just in the right spot, right time. Adams will play as our KB in 2017 with Roberts still there as back up.

Collins is reportedly doing everything right this off season and you know our premiership CHF? well he can and will play back ( the morris role)

If Adams doesn't settle in as we hope i do think Collins will be ready sooner than most people think, but we have built a nice war chest and the likes of may lever and McStay would be high on our list of Targets.

the other thing to keep in mind is our midfield depth, when you get guys like Webb McLean Dunkley Dale Smith Lipinski starting to play more midfield minutes that means guys such as Wallis Crameri Macrae ect push out and can fill the roles left by murphy and Boyd.

Are you sure about that? I know he didn't start the season in the best 22, but only the coaching staff know whether or not he'd be in the best 22 right now if he were still here. Between him and Adams, I know who I'd rather have in the team at this point in time; the guy who played a crucial finals series and helped deliver us a flag.

Adams only played half the season this year and wants to leave, Morris is 34 and none of Roberts, Collins or Cordy have proven themselves capable of performing at a high level on a consistent basis. That isn't to say I'm not hopeful or confident they will, however I think one more experienced key-defender would complement the balance of youth and experience nicely; we could do a lot worse with our solitary rookie pick.

you are saying that hamling is best 22 because he had a good finals series, yet Roberts who also played in that premiership and was in the side for most of the season while Hamling did struggle at VFL at times, so yes imo it was right place right time.

Roberts is a lot better than people make out, he has his jobs and plays within himself, thats why he kept getting games.

As for Adams he allows us to play more flexible down back and his kicking really sets up our attack, i really fear for sides next season because if our best 6 backs Wood Adams Boyd Murphy Morris and JJ play most of the season together we will be very hard to score against, this is also largely due to the great hard work and gut running from macrae hunter and Biggs, watch the GF again, just for the sake of it :) but watch Biggs, he was massive for us and worked back really well helping out Hamling and Roberts.

I'm just giving you my preference. I really like Roberts, he did an excellent job in both the finals he played, but I think Hamling had a better finals series overall, and his mobility sets him apart.

How?

watch the GF again, just for the sake of it
No thanks, I've already watched it several times and I'm taking a break. I don't want it to become boring.

No need to tell me how important Biggs is, I think he's a great player.

Can't win them all, and he'd know that. Sometimes it's what you do when you're up against it that makes the person more appreciated. I back at least the first two players to be solid prospects and if he misses with the other two, then at least he had a crack. We didn't get to where we are being conservative at the draft.

So what are we thinking with the rookie draft, guys? Some interesting players like Judah Dundon, Brodie Romensky, Sam Walker, Matt Guelfi, Taylin Duman and Ben Ronke are still there. Dylan Whimpress and Oliver Hanrahan who were both linked to us are still available. Could Jamie Hampton provide that outside speed and class we were potentially looking at with Cox, Cumming and Williams? If we want to further bolster our key position stocks there's Zach Sproule who I like. A small forward might be nice, the likes of Tyson Stengle, Dan Allsop, Liam Ryan and Kym Lebois are options there.

Thoughts?

Reckon we need to take a defender, whether that's a key or runner. Really like the look/sound of Taylin Duman.

I worry about guys like Sproule and Walker for them to have slid to the rookie draft. Something must have happened for clubs to stay away from them, even with Duman as well. I'm fine with us looking at Hanrahan in the rookie draft, and am big on Duman, Ronke and Romensky for selections. There will be very good players available.
