Do we reckon Andrew McGrath could be a good selection around our first-rounder? Smaller type midfielder, but a terrific runner and good both on the inside and outside. Feel like he could drift anywhere from half-back to a small forward on the field, and could possibly compliment Macrae and Hunter well on an opposite wing.

If Battle isn't available then yes.

Half Back is where I like him.

I really like what McGrath has to offer as a half back as well. Would be great cover for JJ and we need more troops there with Bob getting no younger and injured plus the importance structurally of our half back line. Investing in a top talent to play the position would be a good route to take IMO. Midfield alone looks very solid and is pretty young and we can snag a ruck prospect outside the first round if need be.

Ladhams 33 hitouts, 2 contested marks, 4 tackles and a goal on the weekend. I like the sound of this guy, I think Skippos is a fan too. Can you tell us anything more Skippos?

Strnadica doesn't look too bad either, something about him that I can't put my finger on that makes me believe he develops into a gun.

Also a quick question, are there any other kpfs we could consider at our first if Battle is selected before that? & what would their heights be? I certainly don't want us to reach early for one, but still would like another somewhere at the next draft.

Marshall would never be able to play together with Boyd so no I don't think there are anyone to consider past Battle, prefer the midfielders and utilties past him in the first round.

There are some that could be around later (TAC ones i know about anyway) who could be second types to Boyd though. I'll list them below.

Zachary Zdybel - 193cm, Geelong Falcons
Patrick Kerr - 194cm, Oakleigh Chargers
Shannon Beks - 196cm, North Ballarat Rebels
Ezekiel Frank - 195cm, Northern Territory

Genuine question, you're all over most of the TAC, and your knowledge is quite large. You ever considered trying to break into the recruiting biz as a scout or something Wizard17 ?

it sounds good, then you have to drive 4 hours one way to watch a single player in the pouring rain with no shelter

This is spot on. I would consider being a recruiter myself but I just don't watch any junior footy. I don't have much time for it either juggling uni, coaching junior basketball and working! Attending games would take far too much time without a whole heap of enjoyment. I do however enjoy being able to use stats/highlights to decide who I think will do well and who won't. I try to watch online the championship games available and the academy showcases streamed on the AFL website. I have a fantasy team which drafts from the U18's each season as well so rather than helping an AFL club claim the best juniors I can instead help my own team and reap the rewards in bragging rights when they do well. Adding to that how much I would feel sick to the stomach helping a team that isn't the Bulldogs.

Not really.

I have only being following the TAC for 3 or 4 years now and I'd like to just continue to watch it like I am now.

THE EMERGENCE of West Australian tall Tim English has clubs hoping for a bigger batch of ruck prospects available at this year's NAB AFL Draft.

The past two drafts have proved to be lean for clubs searching for young ruck talent, with just two selected in each of the national intakes of 2014 and 2015.

But there are a handful of ruck options developing nicely in this year's pool, with the 204cm English looking perhaps the most impressive at this early stage of the year.

English has averaged 23 hit-outs in his seven games this season for South Fremantle's colts side and is also expected to feature in the forward line during WA's under-18 campaign.

WA talent manager Adam Jones said the raw-bodied ruckman, who turns 19 this year after focusing on school football last year, has AFL attributes.

"South Fremantle got him down over the pre-season and his form's been excellent in the colts. He's an athletic ruckman with really good skills and a really good decision-maker in the mould of Dean Cox," Jones said.

"He's still very skinny so he has a lot of physical development left but he's an exciting prospect. With his natural athleticism and (the) way he reads the game, he could really develop that forward side of his game quite well."

He isn't the only ruck hopeful in Western Australia, with English likely to rotate duties with powerful 202cm Jeremy Goddard during next month's national carnival. Goddard's size and athleticism will appeal, and the NAB AFL Academy squad member has shown improvement over the past year in his game sense.

Another ruckman who has developed impressively in the past few months is the 200cm Jordan Sweet, with the South Australian improving his fitness to compete strongly in the SANFL.

Sweet entered the national academy last year and travelled to America with the group in January, but has stepped up his running ability since the training camp and will lead SA's midfield at the national carnival.

Max Lynch's growth as a player has seen him leap into the No.1 ruck role for the NSW-ACT Rams, and the Giants will have first access to the 200cm Murray Bushrangers product. The athletic Liam Maze is another ruck option for the Rams, and is eligible to join the Swans through their academy set-up.

In Victoria, Lloyd Meek looks likely to hold down the ruck duties for Vic Country, while the rapid improvement of Sandringham Dragon Lachlan Filipovic has caught the eye of recruiters.

Former soccer player Tony Olango (200cm) has hit form for the Northern Territory, highlighting his potential as a ruck option for scouts. The Sudanese-born prospect is quick and has a side step that gets him out of trouble, and he booted two goals in last week's win over Tasmania.

Clubs have shown a reluctance to use early draft selections on ruckman in recent years, with Brodie Grundy (Collingwood, pick 18 in 2012) the only pure ruckman to be taken in the top-20 in the past four years.

Strategy has often seen clubs use the trade and free agency period to add ruckmen to their lists once they have passed their maturing years.

Haha! That is the exact reason I started genuinely following the U18s two years ago.

It's a combination with my vested interest in who the dogs may draft and trying to pick out who will go early before it becomes more public. Last year I picked Clayton as a top 5 pick well before he bolted. Not sure this year but I have a few in mind that I think could.

Agree; him and Ladhams as a second/third rounder I would take gleefully.

Nice call - what tipped you off originally about Oliver's potential, if I may ask?

Once he won the morrish medal, highlights emerged on here. It was only at that point that he was considered first round by some but I called top 5 straight away. Saw some elite qualities in him there and a combination of traits that translate really well to AFL level. Also at the combine when he finished top 10 in the agility test (I find this particular test a really good guide) that sort of reaffirmed what I had seen. Liked some of the work I saw from him around centre stoppages and up forward.

I had him going top 10 at that point and had people disagreeing with me. He had some great highlights.
