Which of the draft age rucks would be most ready to play first year if needed?
A Draft age ruck is not physically ready to play afl ruck. None will be. They could play as forwards but not rucks.
I want us to get a mobile ruck that can play if needed but they will need to be 24+, as well as drafting a ruck for 3-4 years time.

Brodie Grundy did it, pushed Jolly out in his first year if I remember correctly.

Grundy was a freak, touted at a likely top 3 pick for most of the year until he slid because clubs stopped taking rucks so early.
Tim English sounds like a freak in a different way if he's a firm top 10 chance.

My two biggest questions on English would be, does he develop a forward craft & can he put on the necessary muscle required to compete in the ruck? Everywhere else he is very good, he could improve quite rapidly if he fills out to.
But I know we've said the same thing about players in the past before so I'd understand if he wasn't the most thrilling selection on draft night (if available).

Can he put on weight and keep his mobility? Will he be able to stand up to the ruckmans punishment.
I am a fan of his but I still think I would pass at pick 13 but would pick at pick 20+. Think he will be gone by 13 but you never know.
My hesitation is to do with taking a first round pick and not playing him for 3 years. It's a long investment where he might jump ship back to WA just as he is coming good.

Agree with the concerns on English. Could be anything, but could also be a tall skinny mid who gets beat up in the ruck, is ok forward and is good below his knees for his height but that is it. He's a special kind of player but is it a type of special that fits a role properly? Massive risk in my eyes.
