I use to love Rhye & Fall on CivIV. Can't get it working on my new machine.... [emoji20]

And I like watching my all purpose cavalry based armies dominate in M2TW so I can't wait until I get a proper set up so I don't have to auto resolve any battles.

And also being able to play Company of Heroes without lag would be nice because it is such a brilliant game.

AFL Victoria’s Vic Metro Academy will take a different approach to its warmup for the 2016 NAB AFL U18 Championships, with a trial game against Werribee’s VFL Development League side tonight at Avalon Airport Oval.

The game will be the final trial to select the remaining members of the Vic Metro squad to contest the Championships in June.

Werribee will field a strong development lineup, with the likes of Josh Porter, Isaac Conway, Nicholas Meredith, Ethan Petterwood, David Mennen playing in the match.

AFL Victoria High performance Manager Anton Grbac said a number of factors had to be considered this year with the changes to the Championship structure.

Each Division 1 side will play another state once, and will also play against a Division 2 Allies side – with the Division 2 Championship being decided last weekend with NSW/ACT RAMS producing a clean sweep of its opponents.

“Due to the change in programming for the Championships, private school football consideration and most importantly the load that is placed on players at this time of the year with football and school-work, it was decided to make quicker choices on the core of the group (of the team) and then have a final trial with the remaining members to complete the squad,” Grbac said.

“We felt a physical hit out would best suit our needs and identified a VFL club that would be having a bye based on our timing.

“We approached Werribee FC who were excited about the idea and have been fantastic in their support of the concept.

“Special thanks to John Lamont, Mark Stone and of course Mark Penaluna for making their facilities available.”

The final squad for Vic Metro - supported by Dairy Australia - will be announced on Friday. Vic Metro opens its 2016 campaign on Monday June 13 against Vic Country at Simonds Stadium.

Sam Fowler’s journey into the TAC Cup system wasn’t exactly plain sailing.

The Dromana product, standing at just shy of 170cm, missed out on making Dandenong Stingrays’ squad as a bottom-age player, as the club’s talent manager Mark Wheeler explains.

“Sammy tried out to be a bottom-ager with us in an under-17 squad game against Eastern Ranges when he was a 16-year-old,” he said.

“He didn’t have a good game and his games locally probably weren’t quite to the level, and just being that small made it hard for us to pick him.

“We talk to all our smalls, so anyone below 180cm, and tell them that they’ve just got to be good at everything they do—they’ve got to be elite.

“We challenged him to work on a couple of things.”

Fowler took the initiative to improve his game and spent a whole pre-season training with Dromana in the Nepean Football Netball League.

“I just went back to Dromana and did a really good pre-season with the seniors,” Fowler said. “Our then senior coach Doug Koop said that he was interested in me and really wanted to play me throughout the year.”

The small forward relished playing senior football and went on to play all 16 games for Dromana last season as a 16-year-old, kicking 36 goals and topping the Tigers’ goalkicking.

“Last year was great, I played a full season with my older brother and a few of my best mates that are younger blokes as well,” he said.

“I think I preferred it to juniors—it was a bit quicker and it suited my game a bit better.”

He also booted 22 goals from nine outings in the under-19s and played an integral part in helping his side defeat Rosebud by 35 points in the grand final.

His successful season for Dromana in the seniors and under-19s earned him a pre-season with Dandenong and a place on its list.

Nicknamed “Rat”, because of his exceptional goal sense, Fowler has had a remarkable start to the TAC Cup season. He has kicked 25 goals (second to Geelong’s Brett Blair with 26) in seven games, with five-goal hauls against NSW/ACT Rams and Northern Knights.

With the Stingrays on top of the ladder at 6-1, the goalsneak is pleased with his own form and the way that his teammates are playing. “It’s pretty easy when all the boys are just sending it in, hitting you lace out,” he joked.

“All the boys have been working hard on the track and we’re getting rewarded.”

Wheeler has been delighted with his work alongside Daniel Allsop in the forward half, referring to them as a “dynamic duo”.

“They both have the same amount of shots on goal—they’re probably averaging six shots each,” he said.

“It’s really dangerous when you’ve got those two blokes who work as hard as they do. One of them gets off the leash at some stage, so we’re rapt with both of them.”

Despite Fowler’s small size, Wheeler compares him to Collingwood small forward Jamie Elliott due to his ability to play taller.

“He plays taller than what he is—he’s 170cm, but probably plays around 180cm,” he said.

“Just like Jamie Elliott, he’s very strong above his head and works really, really hard to keep the ball in our zone.”

The 17-year-old is a member of Vic Country’s squad for the under-18 national championships. He’s “pretty rapt” to just be in the squad and will try to make the most of his opportunities if he gets selected.

“If I do get a game I’ll be happy to just be out there and hopefully I get a few kicks and get on the end of a few goals, which would be great,” he said.

Inspired by his determination to get the best out of himself after not making Dandenong’s squad as a bottom-ager, Fowler’s rise to prominence in the TAC Cup this season has been a feel-good story.

WHILE Western Jets coach Torin Baker hasn’t banned his star player from surfing, Oscar Junker says he won’t be hitting the water anytime soon.

An accident in January nearly curtailed the most important season of Junker’s career.

The Jets’ co-captain missed all of the post-Christmas pre-season and the opening two games of the TAC Cup campaign after injuring his shoulder falling off a surfboard.

But it hasn’t taken the draft prospect long to hit the heights expected of him.

Three games into his return, Junker was named best afield for the Jets.

Since then, he has produced another two stunning performances to make it three consecutive best-on-grounds.

“I’m super excited, I’m really enjoying playing footy as consistently as I can,” Junker said.

“I‘ve been focused on getting a little bit more fit to play midfield. The first few games I couldn’t keep up with the pace.”

A move to the middle has inspired the 18-year-old.

As a bottom ager, Junker played 16 games and was named in the best five times, hitting his straps towards the back end of 2015.

He impressed across half-back and on a wing before a move to centre-half forward helped take him to another level.

Yet, at 191cm, Junker believed he was capable of taking a midfield role in 2016.

The next step was adding some weight.

“I really had to focus on the gym, especially when I was 15, 16,” Junker said.

“I was only 65kg and still pretty tall. I’m just naturally skinny. That’s been the biggest improvement. Each pre-season I set a goal to put on 5kg and I did that — I was 78kg last year.

“I really focused working on my legs and core.”

With a centimetre of height on Fremantle champion Nat Fyfe, Junker sees the Brownlow medallist as a perfect prototype on which to mould his game.

“The way he plays and explodes through contests, the way he takes marks and kicks goals, I hope I could do the same, though maybe not at that level,” Junker said.

“Marcus Bontempelli is another, I love the way he plays. My goals as a midfielder are going forward, taking contested marks and kicking some goals.”

With Vic Metro opportunities beckoning, Junker wants to make every post a winner. But he hasn’t ruled out an extended campaign with the Jets this season.

“The biggest goal is to get the Jets to finals, I’d really like to push the team into finals,” he said.

“I think we’ve got a really good chance this year.

“We’re not sitting great but once we get a full team in we’re good enough. I don’t think I will be going surfing any time soon.”

The Jets sit in 11th spot on the ladder with a 2-5 win-loss record and will tackle Calder Cannons at Burbank Oval on Saturday.

Is there a team announcement for the metro squad playing tonight available?
Junker reminds me more like Goddard (no, not finger pointing) than Bont or Fyfe

Nothing that I can find.

I don't like comparing players. Junker is just a good junior mid who is very strong overhead and has the ability to play any position on the ground. Though if we drafted him I'd have the Bont as his mentor, there is so much he could learn from him.

I find it annoying that I can only find the squads for 2014 & 2015
There has been more interest & they've gotten lazier

Re Junker; I should have just said that he plays a similar role for the Jets, not necessarily a copy of Goddard.

I think the final squad gets announced on Friday.

Edit: Junker surfs so I'd imagine him and Bevo would get along well :P ;)

Rookie draft or late draft bolter for Frank. He was really inconsistent, so I do understand why he is out. Still hoped he would get a shot as the flashes were really good.

The 36-player 2016 Vic Country squad that will attempt to defend last year’s NAB AFL U18 Championships title has been announced.

The 2015 Vic Country team went through the U18 Championships undefeated and featured two prominent members of this year’s squad, North Ballarat Rebels captain Jarrod Berry and Gippsland Power skipper Ben Ainsworth.

While the full squad has been named, not all selected will get the opportunity to play during the Championships.

The Dandenong Stingrays contribute the most members to the squad, with 11 players coming from the TAC Cup ladder leaders. North Ballarat has seven representatives in the squad, followed by the Bendigo Pioneers with six, Gippsland with five, the Geelong Falcons with four and the Murray Bushrangers with three.

There are 15 members of the NAB AFL Academy Level One and Two groups in the Vic Country squad, with two Academy members missing out due to sustaining broken legs recently – Murray’s Jy Simpkin and Geelong’s Alex Witherden.

There are three over-age players in the Country squad (Dandenong teammates Tom Jok and Mitch McCarthy, and the TAC Cup’s leading goalkicker in 2016, Geelong’s Brett Blair), while there are eight bottom-age players (Bendigo teammates Kane Farrell and Lochie O’Brien, Dandenong quartet Hunter Clark, Oscar Clavarino, Aaron Darling and Luke Davies-Uniacke, Geelong’s James Worpel, and Gippsland trio Cody Henness, Tyrone Hayes and Aidan Quigley).

Bendigo’s Joseph Atley and Dandenong’s Liam McKay join Berry and Ainsworth as club captains included in the squad, ensuring there’ll be no shortage of leaders to follow in the footsteps of successful 2015 Vic Country captain and subsequent no.1 NAB AFL Draft pick Jacob Weitering.

Many eyes will be on midfielders Will Brodie (Murray), Hugh McCluggage (North Ballarat) and Myles Poholke (Dandenong), who have started 2016 in top form representing their TAC Cup clubs and the AFL Academy. Dandenong’s 192cm forward Josh Battle is another to have started the season well.

Battle’s forward-line teammate at the Stingrays, Sam Fowler – second on the TAC Cup goalkicking table – is the shortest member of the Country squad at 169cm, while ruckmen Lloyd Meek (North Ballarat) and Sean Darcy (Geelong) are the tallest at 201cm.

The Country squad will again be coached by Paul Henriksen, with Matt Battistello coming in to replace new Murray Bushrangers coach Leon Higgins as the Vic Country U16 coach.

Vic Country – again supported by Dairy Australia and its Legendairy campaign - starts its Championship defence against WA on Sunday June 5 at Medibank Stadium, Leederville.
