Would you be so kind as to let us know a little of what you had heard?

Not much at all really. Just that he's a terrific kid with a potentially elite skill set. I wouldn't be surprised if he was off the board by our pick (based purely on some industry chat. I've never seen any of these kids play).

I'm mad keen on Marshall now, seems a great fit. Need more up forward. Will have time to develop. Fear of him being a bust decreases heaps knowing Dal's into him. And I just like the idea of us taking a tall with our first. But all this means is that I'm being set up for disappointment when Port grab him at 17. Really need a couple of prospects available that Port can't say no to. North taking Florent will help shake another down, since it doesn't seem like any between North and us will take him. Another hope is that Port are keen on Battle like rumours suggest - can't see them taking both Battle and Marshall with their first two.

Friday is so damn far away. I need a distraction to stop me doing my tenth mock draft for the day.

That may change very soon
So we're really going back to a zone drafting system? Just so the AFL can legitimise the crazy academies the Northern states (and GWS in particular) have? **** it, take most of the Riverina from GWS and I'll stop complaining. They've already given them enough to win a flag so they should be happy too. It all feels like a backwards step.

Kinda but in a different way of things
Not zone selection in total
Sadly cannot say the whole structure since its from a third party

Just going to throw it out there: I reckon Scrimshaw will slide and might even be available at our pick.
After reading Quigley's thread, I'm not so keen on Scrimshaw or Battle now. Scrimshaw never really stood out for me and his kicking and contested work has always been an issue, but Quigley's now gotten me uncertain about Battle due to his poor athletic testing at the combine. I don't exactly think Scrimshaw has the discipline to play in the Dogs system, as he doesn't really look to have a defensive game.

Look, I'll be honest here: I'm a little worried about how supposedly we're heavily into Marshall and Cox. I know you can say a lot about Dal's drafting, but the fact is no one has perfect talent identification, and I have major issues with both players, particularly Marshall. Especially considering we don't see him as a KPF, which would really just leave him with the option of being a half-forward flanker with average athleticism and endurance, unless he can somehow develop a defensive game. I'm nowhere near an expert compared to our recruitment team, but I actually struggle to see any majorly positive outcomes from taking them both. Would be far more comfortable seeing us reach for someone like Gallucci, Drew, Ridley, Mutch, Sproule or even Cumming, and if we were really looking for a tall, going with Himmelberg at 26.

That's exactly it about Scrimshaw for me: I reckon the knocks on his kicking under pressure and his defensive ability will be important for clubs. And he also seems a bit cocky, and maybe wouldn't interview well. Just feels like that "highly rated" player who no club is actually that excited about. Could even see us passing on him.

I really want Marshall and Cox, seem absolutely ideal for us going off the very little that I know
Amazing timing you guys.

None of those other options really excite me at 18, but luckily if it's not Marshall (who I'd still personally be very happy with), I think there'll be a slider we're happy to take. Venables perhaps.

I still haven't been able to watch his highlights to see what the fuss is about

I'm still crossing my fingers Venables gets to our pick so we can at least consider him, the draft is so near but feels so far away..

Most of these highlights are from his VFL debut. Ended up BOG with 30 dis, 12 marks, 6 of which were intercept.

I like the look of him and he marks well, but the Wood comparison is very generous. He just doesn't seem to have anywhere near the same spring that Woody does.

From what I've read and seen, it's a role comparison rather than a stylistic one. Not primarily a ground-level, running type, but rather an aerial specialist that plays above his height. Obviously not a perfect comparison (none are) but that's the way I see it.
