Why on earth would we take Marshall? Literally the only one I don't want us going near. Battle I could understand. Kerr possibly if we want a key forward. Rather take Bolton, SPP or Florent.
Marshall was someone I also thought could make a lot of sense for Sydney at 19. Tippett won't be around forever and is playing a lot more in the ruck these days anyway. Marshall being from NSW would also not hurt, I don't imagine.

We can take a project ruck late. Don't need to blow a pick on a bloke on "hope" more than "output".

How does that help your key forward stocks in the longer term though, like Marshall could?

If we want a forward would rather Kerr thanks. Marshall is too much of a Hail Mary and hope for the best has done nothing in the back half of the year.

Jep. Don't think we need to target a KPF this year, especially with Reid coming back into the fold.

Could see a Kerr type selected if we got a Simpkin/Brodie @ 9.

Is it really a surprise that he ran out of gas given that he's not done a preseason and also apparently played with some injuries in the back half of the year?

I realise he'd be a gamble, but some apparently think he's as talented as anyone in the draft and could be the best to come out of it, so I expect clubs will start to get really interested in taking that punt by around your pick at 19.

I'm not taking Hail Mary punts at 19. If it was 30, I'm all for it but not in the top 20. Would rather Battle or Kerr.

Frankly we can get a KPP next year- rather go small this year or a KPD at worst.

Hey KS, is this all just you speculating, or is most of it based on strong mail?

Bit of both fair bit of putting 2 and 2 together from people talking about the players and clubs in the know

Intention of changing the direction of the thread to what it should be about aswell

Good work, appreciate it. Hearing anything about who we're looking at after those Brissy picks at 23, either specific names, or what type we're looking to add there?

Nah not really. It seems you are quite open with what your looking to pick up at that pick. Maybe a wait and see whats available or been left over.

Battle has been talked about a bit, if hes around then i think the saints would be having a good look.

I personally wouldnt think hes required with Bruce, Membrey, McCartin plenty years in them

Heard anything about the Crows mate? Seems like we're keen on Hayward and Berry in particular, but who knows at this stage.

Yeah we're hearing a fair bit of talk that we could grab either Marshall or Battle at 23, which really surprised me, given we have the 3 you mentioned, who are all under 25yo- plus Carlisle and Goddard, who I would imagine could also play forward no worries at all if one or more of the previous 3 were injured. Not to mention the Riewoldt fella for the time being!

If we do grab one of them I guess it just means we're pretty happy with most of the list and just want to create real depth in all areas.

It stops the suns, their prime rival in the qld market and one that lethal believes should not be there, using less points than is otherwise required for him. its even worse should other clubs also dont bid on him and is why i really hope the blues bid on him if Lions dont.
Stops the Suns? How? They are getting Bowes and will get a further three top 10 picks regardless.
The fact he is a qld boy also makes it beneficial to the lions as surely for them removing the go home factor has been an issue. they wont have any issue having him should suns not match.
Just being from QLD doesn't assure he will stay. Look at Charlie Dixon - who hails from Bowes' hometown of Cairns. Zac Smith and Tom Hickey are further examples of this. It might be hard for a Melburnian to understand but Brisbane is nothing like Cairns. In fact, Melbourne is closer to Brisbane than Brisbane is to Cairns.

Queensland is a very large and sparse state.
Clearly suns will match the bid i dont think that has ever been disputed.
Thanks for confirming what we all know.
The tit for tat argument i really dont buy because it really depends on the players ability. Clubs are to professional so they wont be so petty like we bf posters might be.
I could also make the argument that the Lions are too professional to waste their time on a player they know they won't get and will focus on a guy that has already said he wants to be a Lion - Ainsworth.
