Ok.

In his draft year, he struggled to kick more than 2 goals in a game, and his marking numbers were relatively poor. He was picked at 10 based on potential, similar to why Marshall will be picked this year. He's raw and young, and KPFs that struggle with injury tend to struggle with it for a while. His athleticism is good but not a standout feature, and he doesn't really work up the ground. This all shows me warning signs that he may not develop as he is expected to.

For all those thinking I'm being hasty and rash, these are my reasons for thinking he could be a bust no. 10 pick. You can disagree with me all you want, but don't critisise me for having a rational opinion.
Gee your a wasted talent. Your knowledge on 17yo in their draft years is outstanding. Must have clubs banging down your door to find who to draft or not.
Clearly you are out of your depth. You didn't even realise he was injured when you judged him. I suppose it is pretty rare for tall young blokes to have back issues. Late comer to taking it seriously.
I'd be logging off for a while if I was you.

If they are that interested it's 11. Will get bid on before 32 and easily matched. Pick 11 would really force GWS's hand.

Not necessarily. GWS will have Perryman, Setterfield and Macreadie as their first priorities (you'd assume) so there is every chance they don't go into deficit to match Mutch and Sproule depending where they go.

We may like Mutch but not rank him in the top 14 players in the draft, and are thus targeting him at 32 in the knowledge that's not a guarantee. I don't know the level of interest we have, just heard us and GWS had been the two most prominent teams in terms of contacting one of their academy guys.

Everyone has us taking Ainsworth at 4 after bidding on Bowes at 3 but Ainsworth to me seems perfect for GWS
Haven't they publicly declared interest in McGrath as a replacement for Shaw hence why they moved from 7 to 3 to 2. If they were after Ainsworth there wouldn't have been much point in the 3 to 2 trade as McCluggage and McGrath have been locks for the first 2 picks for a couple months now.

Latest whispers have us taking McGrath at 1

Not if Essendon take McGrath which most people have at the moment. Brisbane have apparently liked Ainsworth for a while but GWS also like him McLuggage doesn't really suit GWS but McLuggage suits Brisbane perfectly Brisbane getting another top 20 pick was too good for the Lions too pass up

Seems to be it's really just the supporters talking themselves into it. Not sure about any "whispers". There's talk of Robert Shaw being an influence, but I doubt Dodoro would be swayed. He'll know who he wants.

As an Essendon "hater", i would cack myself if Dodoro read out any other name than McCluggage.

He is easily the No.1 Pick. Special talent. You can then throw a blanket over the next 7 or 8 imo.

Dodoro WILL read out Hugh McCluggage......but god i hope Shawry can talk him out of it;)

Why McGrath is easily the best player in the draft

He posted an opinion, so did you. He wasn't an arseh*le about it, you were. You sure that he is the one that should be logging off?

No he's not. I really, really rate McGrath but to say anyone in this years draft class are "easily" the best is ridiculous. I think McCluggage and McGrath have probably earned the title of consensus top two but there isn't a clear as day number 1. In my opinion McCluggage is number 1 but not by much. I'd have McGrath at 2 and Ainsworth at 3. Throw a blanket over Brodie, SPS and Taranto to round out the top 6.

I'd be taking McGrath without a moments hesitation.

Love both him and McCluggage as draft prospects and find it really hard to split them. Merely going with McCluggage due to the fact that he has had the best year imo out of all the draftees and genuine goal kicking midfielders are hard to find but McGrath's pace and agility to go along with his footballing ability and the fact that he is a superb leader make it very difficult to go past him. I would be very happy with either but I think the Lions will end up with Ainsworth who I would also be very happy with. Oozes star factor.

Yeah, good synopsis.

McGrath can play anywhere though....Very much in the Luke Hodge mould, though somewhat shorter.

Will you blokes be bidding on Bowes/Setterfield do you think?

Perhaps Bowes but no certainty there. Our recruiters will only bid on players if they genuinely want them and think they are worth bidding on with pick 3. If we rate Bowes and Setterfield in the pick 6-10 range I highly doubt we'll bid on them with pick 3 for the sake of it just to keep the Suns and Giants honest. If Ainsworth is available I suspect we'll select him quick smart. From all reports the Lions recruiters love him and have had their eye on him since last year as a gun prospect that they want to recruit onto our list.

Brett Anderson suggesting Simpkin and Hayward could go top ten. Not sure if that is his gut feel or something he has heard though (I assume the latter as he has previously said he thinks the top tier are pretty clear in this draft).

Bulldogs have been linked to Simpkin if rumours are correct, but that's at (pre-bidding) pick 18.
