How is it silly?
Weve produced 13-15 "top 22" players in 3 years, turned a list that was so deplorable to make the finals was considered 10 years away. 3 years later we finish 9th on 12 wins.

I doubt any other team has had 13-15 hits from 3 drafts, rookie drafts and trading ins.

13-15 hits and yes Im being conservative and only including those that have showed they will make it. Didnt add freeman rice templeton they are our failures. Sinclair and Lonie are the only two that may not make it but IMO they have the skill and motovation and will make it.
God why cant people just say hey nice work. No other team would have 13 hits in 3 drafts Just pay the respect ffs

It's easy to pick best 22 players when the starting point of your overall squad quality is ****house.

Your recruiters would have to be incompetent not to pick best 22 types with the high picks you've had in the past 3 years, given Saints have missed finals in every single season you're referring to.

I bet you're one of those people who think junior footy shouldn't have scoreboards and kids who finish last in athletics deserve a ribbon too.

Oh, and drafting Billings over Bont will go down as the Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan moment of your recruiter's career and will haunt him forever.

Tom Lee kicked 3 goals on occasion, and at least was someone who could look tallish in the forward line after Kosi retired. ( The last tall forward we actually got into the side before that who was able to play any sort of footy was Riewoldt, Kosi and Gehrig all in 2000). Our previous drafting before the current team was almost criminal.

Tom Lee was not a straight swap for the first rounder, and even though the two picks we got back ( Nathan Wright and Spencer White) haven't amounted to much, it seems it was a crappy draft anyway after the first few. ( How's Josh Simpson going for you ).

Ironically pick 46, given up for TDL, was used for Tim Membrey, later picked up as a DFA.

Not defending Twatters for a second, but we were not worse off with 3 shit players than getting one shit player with our magic first round pick.

I think its absolutely necessary to do well in all aspects of drafting.
Bottom out and you get just one draft pick better than those who don't.
Are you guaranteed of getting a player better than everyone else ? No.

So as Melbourne and Carlton are finding out, a decade of bottoming out doesn't give you a good list. It gives you 10 players who may or may not be good , who are mentally drained.

Saints were losing players who had been there for all their premiership window at around 5 a year ( hanging onto some so they didn't all go at once), as well as young players who were not even good enough for depth.

The way i figure it our best 22 for 2017 will be close to:
3 or 4 players who were a regular part of the team when we were playing finals.
3 players who were on the list but not playing often when we were playing finals.
8 players drafted post 2010.
8 or 9 players acquired from other clubs through draft or free agency.

So the straight up drafting has not been remarkable. But the Saints have been effective in rebuilding.
Apart from the 22, we have good depth, better than we ever had in 2009 2010.

Of course it has improved since then. Now it is only mediocre.

And yeah, North's ain't much better (which is a real shock given we've actually made finals for the past 3 years and had to use lower picks whilst your team has been stinking it up) but I guess I can soothe my pain by replaying the 2 winning grand finals I got to see in person.
