I watched his draft machine highlights this morning. Have seen him live once on the TV.

Kid reminds me of Fyfe with a better kick.

If our guys reached at 7, I'd probably raise an eyebrow briefly...but not much more than that.
Has great hands and can kick accuratley from 55

Hayward has all the tools but he doesn't find much of the footy, even for a medium forward. He'll probably end up being a Gunston type at AFL level at best.

Yes he did. Fyfe found a lot more of the footy as an U18 than Hayward.
Hayward hasn't really been given a chance to play midfield. He has shown some contested ball-winning ability, so I can't really see much stopping him from becoming a midfielder.

Yep demonstrates good hands. Fyfe is a bad comparison to anyone because no one could have foreseen the player he would become (I doubt even Fremantle could). They probably just saw someone with running ability and marking ability.

Hayward has also shown the potential to develop an exceptional tank. He finished 9th in the Australian Cross Country Championships as a 10 year old. Comparatively, Jarrod Berry (the best endurance runner at the Draft Combine) finished 29th in that same race.

If you got Gunston at pick 9 you would be signing it off NOW! He's a multiple AA premiership player!

Gunston at best? You say that like it's a bad thing.

Exactly! Since when is 'only getting a Gunston type' a bad thing? Doesn't Gunston kick 50+ goals a year basically...he's an absolute gun.

Carlton reckon they're into Hayward but given what SOS said in a recent interview it's all up in the air at this stage.

Would have to go at 5 then, that would be a bolter. Not saying he isn't worth it though. means one of the real top liners might slide though.

Not in the carnival he inly did middle/late of the wafl colts season where he started getting high teens.

Id say Hayward compares.

Its just hard to determine who goes on from their junior days fyfe certainly did and became a completely different role player to his junior days.

Bit of long bow using results based on when they were 10.

I like Hayward but right now he's a half forward with little midfield exposure to know if he can be good in there.

It seems like he may go in the top 12 which feels like a reach, unless your a club that has multiple top 12 picks in which case it's a different strategy.

I'm not sure if clubs have leaked snippets of information about him that has raised his stocks recently but it seems odd how much he's been talked up in the last 2 months, particularly given he hasn't played a game in that time.

Everyone said Dangerfield was a reach meh if clubs want the player despite the pick they should take the player they want.

Fair enough, that's reasonable logic. If Carlton are into him, like suggested above, they'd have to go 5 and say no to some very very good players. I wouldn't be happy if Port did that.

I think you just have to trust your recruiters. It can not work but at the end of the day these recruiters haven't made a decision in the last day they have studied months of work, you have to trust they know what they are doing.

I'd want Hayward at 9 if Brodie/Tarranto/SPS are not there. I rate him highly.
