just checking have the lions made this statement?

No but that doesn't matter does it? Similar to Anderson podcast I have listened to another no-name podcast just now and I will argue to death why lions won't bid without any shred of evidence.

Go on now, let's turn this thread to sh1t.

have a listen to andersons pod cast he will explain why lions should bid.
His argument was - there's a minute chance the Suns don't match and the Lions pick up a Queenslander. That's a really piss weak argument tbh because every man and his dog knows Bowes is going to the Suns, regardless of when he gets bid on. "Why wouldn't you bid?" he says and then answers his own question by pointing out that it could start "World War 3" between the two QLD clubs with their academies in the future.

I don't understand how you could possibly think it's in Brisbane's best interests to bid on Bowes based on what was said in that podcast...

The Suns are in a situation (list wise) where they must draft Bowes with one of their four top 10 picks. If they don't, they won't get their other academy prospect later in the draft and they've already said they plan on drafting him as well. So Bowes will go somewhere in the top 10 and we're pretty sure he won't be bid on in the top two picks because Essendon and GWS have their eyes elsewhere. This means Bowes will be bid on at pick 3, 5, 7, 9 or drafted at pick 10 by the Suns. Seeing as the Suns hold picks 4, 6, 8 and 10, they won't have to use more than one pick to secure Bowes. Essentially what I'm saying is it changes nothing for the Suns as they will still get four top 10 picks out of this draft period. If the Lions bid with pick 3 then the Suns match with pick 4 and still possess picks 6, 8 and 10. It's not advantageous for Brisbane in any way.

So, why would you bid on Bowes at #3 when it is literally of no benefit to you and can only result in a detrimental effect later on when you have a highly ranked academy prospect coming through? The Lions are better off keeping the peace with the Suns and not unnecessarily pissing them off (for no reason) by going ahead and drafting someone they will get like Ainsworth.

Sydney pick 9 - Simpkin
North Melb pick 11 - Venables

Eagles waiting to see whats available at their 1st pick (hoping for a big bodied midfield slider) - If none of Taranto, Brodie, SPS, Logue available then they will decide between Galluci, Berry and taking SPP early.

Port Adelaide big on Galluci and Witherden - not sure why theyd want flankers though.

If English and SPS gone then fremantle will opt for Logue at 7. If not then it seems their order of preference is SPS, English, Logue

If no bids inside the top 3 Gold coast will use pick 4 on Taranto.

Cant see Carlton bidding on Setterfield at 5 (this is personal opion why upset the relationship if not required).

Likely order at the moment
1/2/3 - Mcgluggage, Mcgrath, Ainsworth
4 - Taranto (Gold coast)
5 - Bowes (Gold Coast - Match Carlton bid)
6 - Sam Petrevski Seton (Carlton)
7 - English (Fremantle)
8 - W.Brodie (Gold Coast)
9 - Will Setterfield (GWS match Sydney bid)
10 - Simpkin (Syndey)
11 - W.Hayward (Gold Coast)
12 - Venables (North Melbourne)
13 - G.Logue (West Coast) Wont surprise if they jump at SPP
14 - J.Berry (Adelaide)
15 - Galluci (Port Adelaide)
16 - Schrimshaw (Brisbane)
17 - Witherden (Port Adelaide)
18 - Florent/Marshall/Battle (Western Buldogs)
19 - Marshall (Sydney) Maybe a bid for a Himmelberg or Isaac cumming and probably end up with a key forward in Marshall.
20 - Florent/Marshall/Battle (Essendon)
After this feel Brisbabe will look at a Shai Bolton or Powell Pepper they love taking WA kids

Things get interesting at pick 5 and can change the pattern. If Carlton bid at 5 on Bowes than Fremantle take English at 7. If not then Gold Coast potentially jump at English with pick 6 leaving Freo to take Logue at 7.

Why on earth would we take Marshall? Literally the only one I don't want us going near. Battle I could understand. Kerr possibly if we want a key forward. Rather take Bolton, SPP or Florent.

Interesting

Who do you think will have a better career out of Logue and SPP?

Probably for others to answer who have watched far more. I have question marks whether Logue will be a midfielder i think the eagles would like a left foot addition across half back thats ready made and replaces Hurns half back role before trying to develop him as a midfielder. Serious athlete with really quality skill for a good size.

Eagles dont pass up Logue if available but if he isnt then as mentioned SPP, Galluci and Berry would be the 3 they look at.

Do you see Brodie as any shot of slipping through? Talk the last few days is he'll fall out of the top 10.

Yes a chance

I believe he spoke to Gold Coast not long ago. I think if they decide against him he will be an eagle. Perfect get for you guys.

North not keen or that keen on Venables? Interesting you have Florent going so late.

Just heard from BF poster that he feels North are really keen on Venables.(Must admit wouldve thought hed have gotten an invite to draft if so). Not sure if that would change depending if theres a slider. Brodie might be considered too similar to the Ziebell, Swallow, Cunners, Dumont crew plus Clarke and probably a fair chance you grab a younger Clarke and/or Atley at 32/33.

Midfield screams for explosion, speed, nip and skill, Venables ticks the boxes

Brodie a flight risk
GC won't touch him

I think if we were really keen on Venables he would be going to the draft. I expect we are happy sitting just outside the top ten and seeing who ends up falling - if it's Brodie I really can't see us passing him up, regardless of player type. We need quality mids in general and he trained with the club last year.

If GWS get stripped of picks and McGrath goes at pick 1, they will pick Setterfield at pick 2 and miss the 20% discount. This will allow them to still get most of their academy players later on.

No need to bid on Himmelberg, he's not tied to an academy.

ive given my reasons on why i think its in the lions interests however i will summarise for you.

  • It stops the suns, their prime rival in the qld market and one that lethal believes should not be there, using less points than is otherwise required for him. its even worse should other clubs also dont bid on him and is why i really hope the blues bid on him if Lions dont.
  • The fact he is a qld boy also makes it beneficial to the lions as surely for them removing the go home factor has been an issue. they wont have any issue having him should suns not match.
  • Clearly suns will match the bid i dont think that has ever been disputed.
  • The tit for tat argument i really dont buy because it really depends on the players ability. Clubs are to professional so they wont be so petty like we bf posters might be.

Hey KS, is this all just you speculating, or is most of it based on strong mail?
