I think it's due to them being just kids. No one wants to just pick on their flaws so it's nicer to just not saying anything at all about their deficiencies. The spuds who do get picked up have a whole career of being bagged, it's only fair the media & BF cut them some slack beforehand.

I would like realistic player comparisons too, everyone is compared to a superstar.

How about a bit more honesty like a guy at pick 55, 'there is a lot of David Ellard about him'

****ing oath. Although I wouldn't want to lump anyone with an Ellard comparison ;)

Logue is one I'm just not sure his position and that worries me. Would I take a KPD at 9? Not sure. I wouldn't be that unhappy with him at 9, I'd just rather Simpkin or Florent
Definitely don't see Logue as a KPD mate. Third tall to start with down back and has a real chance of making it further up the ground IMO.

That's the part I don't like- that's a lot of "maybe" for a top 10 pick personally. I'm hoping we go Simpkin or Brodie at 9, Hayward the possible.

All draftees have elements of 'maybe', apart from perhaps the top couple. Whoever gets Logue will be getting a pure footballer, that's what I like about him - maybe a weird comment given he's fairly new to the game but he seems a natural to me.

Each to their own. I hope Freo take him at 7, or GC at 8. I know every player has risk but I'd rather take someone who has a set position. If that means Simpkin do be it, Brodie or Hayward.

Rather not take a KPF period. We don't need one this year. We can take one in a strong KPP draft next season.

I don't rate Marshall one bit, I'll be thankful if he's taken earlier. It would be a waste of time with our list to get a KPF right now. We need speed especially/outside class and 2ndly a KPD.

If he's that good you take him early. Hurley, Talia & Rance are three of the best defenders in the comp, all taken as top18 picks. Weitering went 1 last year. Harry Taylor was pick 17. If they're that good, you get them.

I'll throw in Tarrant at 15 - you're right though, nothing wrong with paying up for a gun defender.

its all about the points. the suns will always get him because they can match the bid. my point is that the higher the bid is made the more points Suns will need to use. the perfect scenario for the suns is that the bid comes in after 10 which means they get 4 top tens plus bowes.

clearly there is never a 100% guarantee a player wont want to leave however bidding on a local lad is clearly a much easier thing for lions to do than say a boy form wa. if they or the suns treat them right then they wont have a go home factor will they? they still may want to leave for any number of reasons buts not like there is a team in cairns.

now your original "tit for tat" comment was about suns bidding on a lions academy kid in retribution for lions bidding on bowes. i totally disagree a club will bid in retribution because any bidding will be based on the players ability and if they are worth that pick.

clubs are competitive beasts and, if they are happy to take the player they bid on, then they don't want to see a competitor get an advantage. The suns will get a advantage if the bid on bowes comes in lower than his ability warrants.

Ok.

Is this whole debate occurring because blues fan(s) want the 4th best non-academy player in the draft rather than the 5th?

And come back to moan if Bowes / Setterfied don't get bid before their pick 5. They can't stomach the fact that it's an even draft past top 2 and clubs can go whichever way they've planned.

For the record - I don't expect any bid for academy player until Carlton's pick. They might pass too and go for a Brodie/Taranto/SPS whoever is available.

Ben Reid pick 8, James Frawley pick 12, Phil Davis pick 10ish, Luke McPharlin was pick 10, Darren Glass went at 11....

So the way thing's are shaping this is what the top 10 could look like.
1) Essendon. Hugh McCluggage
2) GWS. Andrew Mcgrath
3) Brisbane. Ben Ainsworth
4) Gold Coast. Sam Petrevski-Seton
5) Carlton. Tim Taranto
6) Gold Coast. Jack Scrimshaw
7) Gold Coast. Jack Bowes Freo Bid
8) Fremantle. Griffin Logue
9) Sydney. Will Brodie
10) GWS. Will Setterfield GC Bid

Herald Sun have throw Jacob Allison as someone we are interested in but I guess that all depends of Brisbane's Plans

I'll be very content if the first bid comes at 81.

This could be very likely. From Freo's perspective we seem to love guys that performed big in the draft combine esp in endurance categories and Logue blitzed it.

Surely his progression has been significantly slowed by injuries though?

I would have been very comfortable with us taking Logue at 10 if we still had it.

Four shoulder recos, playing him as a forward etc. I think the game is at a stage where you don't want to overpay for an average key defender or key forward.

Clearly, I'd be happy with Logue at 7. Tarrant is a great player but he's not in the same league as Hurley, rance and Talia.
