BenAinsworthno1 has a nice ring to it. Doesn't even need to end up at Sydney. If we get Ainsworth I'll be popping the 30 yr bottle of scotch!

A skinny project player? Scott Clayton would be pushing for his selection hard

Could see GCS take Ainsworth having 4 picks in the top 10 they can draft for talent and don't have a talented small forward but as much as McLuggage has talent I want Ainsworth at the Lions. Also Lions are unlikely to bid on BowesIt wouldn't be out of the question honestly. Although I have it going:
Ess: McGrath
GWS: Taranto
GC: Bowes
Bri: McCluggage
GWS: Setterfield
Car: Brodie
GC: Petrevski-Seton
Fre: English
GC: Logue
Syd: Ainsworth
I think GC are going to play some games. I can definitely see them wanting Logue and either Ainsworth or Simpkin, rather than Ainsworth at 8, letting Sydney take Logue and then taking Simpkin. It doesn't suit their list strategy.Could see GCS take Ainsworth having 4 picks in the top 10 they can draft for talent and don't have a talented small forward but as much as McLuggage has talent I want Ainsworth at the Lions. +1.I reckon Florent either goes North at 11, Bulldogs at 18 or us at 20.
I would be disappointed if we didn't take him at 20. Except if it were for Gallucci, Powell-Pepper, Marshall or Simpkin.+1.
Will be gobsmacked if we get Florent @ 23.
I don't like to brag, but yes. Told GWS and Brisbane he'd be happy to move for themso how strong is your rumour? from someone in club land?
anyone catch the latest road to the drfat podcast with scott clayton. listen to him 2 mins in. i think he's given away that they might be taking SPS
he basically said its human nature to 2nd guess yourself, then said you end up going full circle back to the decision you had at the start of the year. given none of the rumoured top 4 were branded high end picks and have really come on this year, that tells me theyre into SPS
Good thinking. Would surprise a little given what SPS said, but it's really not his call.
If the Dockers pass on English, could he slip entirely out of the first round? I'd imagine both Adelaide and the Dogs would be interested in a young gun ruck, but they would surely be prioritising other players. Has anyone heard of other clubs being linked other than Freo?
i might be reading into it, but his reaction on the podcast gave it away. as soon as he said it he had a tone of "oh ****!" then said uh uh uh no and then started to move on

I just listened to it and I think you're onto something.
Pity.......because we wanted SPS........oh well.![]()
2014 had Petracca all but locked in at 1 until a couple of days from the draft didn't it?Travis Boak was in a similar situation to Florent and he stayed for a decade already.
Cant remember the last time we didnt know the number 1 pick 4 days out
Had the same feeling. Just depends on Bowes. If theBlues bid on Bowes, the Suns lose pick 6Clayton could be playing mind games, or he could be sticking to 20 years of his own MO of loving skinny kids...but i got the feeling from his podcast today that GC are a huge shot of taking English at Pick 6 before Freo maybe.
He used phrases like "we will be strategic with our picks" and when talking about English used words like "an extraordinary talent" .
Who knows how it will all end up, but i got the gut feel coming out of that podcast that they are more likely to nab English than before hearing it.
He's still a much better player then Robbie Tarrant and he will prove it this year.Hurley was in that tier, can't say he is anymore...
if Bowes gets past pick 10 and receives a bid in prior to the 2nd round, Gold Coast will have to go into deficit and have those points deducted from their pick in the same round as th bid. I.e their 2017 1st rounder will get moved back to clear the points deficit.its all about the points. the suns will always get him because they can match the bid. my point is that the higher the bid is made the more points Suns will need to use. the perfect scenario for the suns is that the bid comes in after 10 which means they get 4 top tens plus bowes.
clearly there is never a 100% guarantee a player wont want to leave however bidding on a local lad is clearly a much easier thing for lions to do than say a boy form wa. if they or the suns treat them right then they wont have a go home factor will they? they still may want to leave for any number of reasons buts not like there is a team in cairns.
now your original "tit for tat" comment was about suns bidding on a lions academy kid in retribution for lions bidding on bowes. i totally disagree a club will bid in retribution because any bidding will be based on the players ability and if they are worth that pick.
clubs are competitive beasts and, if they are happy to take the player they bid on, then they don't want to see a competitor get an advantage. The suns will get a advantage if the bid on bowes comes in lower than his ability warrants.
