If the Dockers pass on English, could he slip entirely out of the first round? I'd imagine both Adelaide and the Dogs would be interested in a young gun ruck, but they would surely be prioritising other players. Has anyone heard of other clubs being linked other than Freo?

I havent heard but at a guess brisbane 16/21? Nth wce and adel all have strong rucks and other areas to bolster, i doubt port take another ruck when lobbe is on big money and not getting a game and i doubt that sydney take a ruck in the 1st round. Brisbane only have martin at 30 and archie smith. I dont really rate english much though him being talked of as 1st rnd is more a reflection on how poor the ruck stocks in this draft are than his actual ability.

glad i'm not the only one then

brodie has also been spending time up on the GC. i think GC's perfect haul would be: SPS, Bowes, Brodie, English/Logue

basically reboots that midfield
We are right into scrimshaw as well

I just listened to it and I think you're onto something.
Pity.......because we wanted SPS........oh well. :)

You could easily get McCluggage or Taranto in that scenario though.

1) McGrath
2) Taranto
3) Ainsworth
4) SPS

or

1) McGrath
2) Ainsworth
3) McCluggage
4) SPS

Apparently we're very interested but don't think he'll be there

Perhaps Twomey didn't know this he drafted him to us in he's mock draft last week

Pretty sure he hasn't done any Phantoms yet, just big boards.

That thing last week was definitely just power rankings.

Will we see a Deodee (Adelaide pick) taken way to early like last year

Bit of talk Cedric Cox could be the one. Has had lots of interviews with Adelaide, WCE and dogs.

May go to the Dogs with pick 18 but can't see him going at picks 12 and 13, way too early. Most draft their is a major riser.
There's always one shock. If it's a Doedee-level shock like last year then Cox isn't even enough, it'll be someone not even spoken about that high.

We might have mucked up the Gibbs trade, we might yet have mucked up Jarman Jnr shenanigans, but I'm much more certain that we mucked up pick 17 last year.

We only took Doedee with pick 17 because that was our last pick in 2015 ND but reckon we could have swapped 17 with another club for say a late 20s plus a 2016 pick upgrade and still drafted Doedee. We weren't thinking there!

It was an odd choice but every club's done it. Christian Howard was a stinker of a pick.

If they are the three most interested clubs then it's a strange mix. You would thing WCE at 12, Crows at 13 is too early for Cox and their next picks are 34 and 43 which looks way too late. Dogs with 18 and 26 seems the right range, strike early at 18 and get your man or sweat off until 26 and hope he's still there.

Don't get me wrong Doedee might end up worthy of pick 17, so I'm not bagging it totally, just that we didn't need to burn a pick that high because we certainly would still have got him much later and enhanced our picks this year in the process. Just wasn't thought through.

A while back I did an exercise to see which club had the most busts in the first round, Swans had a really bad patch through the 2000s, from memory had 5 or 6 straight busts, but gee they nailed later picks and rookies to compensate.

Interestingly GWS for all their riches have burnt a stack of high draft choices, the only thing that has saved them is the vast number of high picks they were given by the AFL. Reckon the jury is still out on SOS as a recruiter.

That was the biggest shock for me. Doedee may have been a few mock drafts in the third round.
I'll see your Doedee and raise you a Sier who was so obscure that there wasn't even a write up on him available when he got picked with Collingwoods first selection!

if Bowes gets past pick 10 and receives a bid in prior to the 2nd round, Gold Coast will have to go into deficit and have those points deducted from their pick in the same round as th bid. I.e their 2017 1st rounder will get moved back to clear the points deficit.

Gold Coasts next pick is 72, carrying a whooping 19 points. Not doubt it will come in some but won't go close to covering a 1st round bid. Correct me if I'm wrong but not sure that's a great outcome.

If no bids, I expect Gold Coast to use pick 10 on Bowes and use the pick they get with the leftover points to secure someone like Brad Sheer, also at a discount.

i guess its how you look at it.

see for mine if the bid comes in after 10 then that's their perfect result because they get 5 top 10 kids this year. yes their 2017 first rounder drops back however its still going to be a first rounder. the benefit is the five 2016 kids get in their program now and start their development.

sheer is predicted to get a second round or worse bid so any deficit would come from that round. they still get him if they want.

Depends how they rate next year's draft class though.

StKilda picked Nick Winmar purely because of his name.
Boekhorst comes to mind more recently.

Bulldogs perhaps with Cedric Cox (not advocating for that).
We took Webb with a pick in the 20s a couple of years ago when most of BF had him going in the 60s.
